  • Its Perfect!
Style: Janome 8200QCP
I had a small Janome -- and I needed a bigger neck for quilting. I wanted to stay with Janome -- and after reading the instructions (bobbin, threading, etc) - I took my first stiches this evening, and its so quiet and moves so smoothly! Wow -- its quite the upgrade from what I had before. I'm very happy! ... show more

  • Excellent machine for under $5K
Style: Janome 8200QCP
This machine has been in constant use for almost two months. I am really getting into machine quilting my own quilts and am grateful to have a machine with a large harp area, reliable stitching quality and many features of a far, far more expensive machine. The dual feed attachment, ability to change out the needle plates, enhanced lighting, the easy to use controls, knee bar, and automatic thread cutter are all valuable features. Yes, it is a bit heavy (note though that I’m in my 70s), but it is not impossible to haul around if necessary. I had a Janome before that was fine, but this machine is wonderful! ... show more

  • Janome 8900
Received this a couple of days ago during a cold snap. Left it on the table over night to bring it up to room temp before I started it. And once I did, I was super impressed. I have loved my Pfaff 1475 for 30 years and used it to death. It still works but some glitches were showing up and there wasn't anyone around to fix it. So after looking for a year or so, I bought this even though it didn't have the integrated dual feed that I loved so much in my Pfaff. Shouldn't have worried. It feeds beautifully without it! Stitches are well formed, it's a quiet machine, this came with everything I needed wrt accessories and so far, everything works as promised. Love the built in needle threader, the way I can adjust both thread tension and foot tension, lots of light, push button thread cutter, etc. The covers are beautiful and the extension table is impressive! Only thing I am not crazy about is the dial. Didn't realize I would be uncomfortable with it. I will be using the screen to choose my stitches whenever possible. Call me weird, but it just seems as if the dial is something that might be the first (and possibly ONLY) thing to break on this. Oh, and it's a substantial machine. Heavy and wide. Love the width of the throat because I am a quilter but I will not be taking this machine with me out of the house. Have my Pfaff as a back up for sewing classes. Will update this review if I find it warrants an additional star or if I need to remove one. Right now I'd say this is one amazing sewing machine. ... show more

  • After Using a Bernina for 35 years, this one not easy
Style: Janome 8200QCP
Dislike: Bobbin case needed to be cleaned very often (using 50wt so fine ) ; Free motion quilting NOT easy - ended up just sewing straight lines.; Needle changing was not an easy feat, and needed changing a lot more often then I was accustomed to. Thread catching in auto cut mechanism. Didn't like to sew over any thickness (I made a grandson pants) I was ready to toss this machine to the curb. While I was able to use automatic threading mechanism early, as I progressed I wasn't able to use it. Problems with bobbin filling 'under' bobbin (not much out there to show how to alleviate this problem, one video showed how to 'remove' that little thread cutter thingie under bobbin to be wound, said it was easy- could NOT pull it off) Like: Thread cutting Mechanism, easy to use decorative stitches, lots of videos out there to help with attachments and some trouble shooting Overall I would think the 8900. might have been a better purchase, would NOT buy this one again ... show more

  • It's a whole other level of sewing!
Style: Janome 8200QCP
I used a Bernina in the 1980s till the mid-90s when I moved out of the US and got rid of it due to incompatible electrical plugs overseas. I regretted it 4 years later when I returned and kept looking for lower-cost replacements and being slightly dissatisfied with the Brothers or Singers out there. Then I got zero percent financing to try this Janome and wow, it's truly like a whole other level of sewing than using the Brother and Singer brands. It does remind me of my Bernina 30 years ago, which essentially was able to sew silk without my touching it. This Janome could probably do that too but it's also able to do extremely heavy-duty sewing -- which is what I do more of now -- like quilting through 3 to 6 layers! The walking foot is great and i love that the presser foot lifter has two settings--just up enough to slip fabric around and up twice as high to move multiple layers with the walking foot on. It's a dream to work on this Janome. I only slightly regret not holding out for the Babylock Aria which was the same price-ish but not as easily financed. Amazon gave me a great offer and I couldn't refuse and have zero regrets. This is a fantastic mid-arm (not regular sized or longarm but in between) perfect for quilters! ... show more
