I bought this 9 months ago and have been regularly using it as my primary sewing machine and as an embroidery machine. I was replacing a 25+ yr old Kenmore Elite (which got heavy sewing use by me) and looking to start to get into embroidery. I didn't want to pay for 2 machines, so I sought out a sewing/embroidery combo machine. Pros: great features for the money - lots of great convenience things, great "starter" embroidery machine (especially if you're not sure how much embroidery you'll do), lots of accessories (especially presser feet), and active social media community of owners of this machine who are happy to help answer questions. Cons: machine is heavy, additional accessories usually have to be Janome brand to fit (which can be expensive), the machine is designed for intermediate to experienced sewing- definitely not something that I would recommend to someone just learning how to sew. Overall, if you sew, do light embroidery and don't want to spend a fortune on 2 machines, this is a GREAT purchase. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I am hooked! I tried two Brother machines before this and neither had the features that made life easier. One day with this machine and I am in love 🥰 A couple things to point out: The carriage on the left is open, making it so very easy to snip and cut while embroidering The needle threader actually works!! The speed is fantastic and the noise is not as annoying as others. It is clear to me that this company is more experienced in user convenience and expediency. I have had years of sewing experience, I do not recommend this machine for the absolute beginner. The instructions are pretty easy to follow. I have not used the embriodery functions yet, but I expect them to be first rate, true to the Janome brand. So far I am happy with my purchase and look forward to many years of sewing. ... show more

I really really wish the threader would thread the needle. I have vision problems and no matter how carefully i thread it or which thread I use it will not thread the machine. A feature I really hoped would work. I have only had the MC9850 a week and am still working my way thru the manual, which is excellent and easy to follow. The switch from regular straight stitching to embroidery is ver simple. The screen prompts what to do and shows the correct foot and setting which to me is very helpful. I have not attempted the quilting features yet but the stitches are excellent The designs on the machine are limited but since I may plug in a thumb drive with additional stitches that’s great . I am not sure if I can just attached my computer with the loaded designs still looking for that info. ... show more

This is the best machine I have ever owned. Easy to use. The bobbin is a little tricky to fill. I purchased a $20 side winder to solve that issue.
