The Janome 8200QC SE combines practicality with an exciting range of easy to use features. This machine is consistent and reliable for all your sewing needs with the luxury of added space. The sheer length of the arm space is impressive at 11″ (280mm) and is ideal for large quilts, bridal dresses, and those bigger home furnishing projects. And it’s powerful! Reaching speeds of up to 860 stitches per minute. Nevertheless, even at those speeds stitch quality is a priority. With a built-in AcuFeed system for precise fabric handling. Shadow free lighting is provided by 5 bright white lights whilst quick and easy stitch selection can be made on the large touch panel Choose from over 224 stitches including alphabets and numbers, including some great fun play stitches. Other special features include an automatic needle threader, speed controller to set your maximum sewing speed and stop/start button if you choose not to use the foot control. It also has a needle up/down button which programs the needle to either finish in the up position or in the fabric. Great for pivoting on corners! It has a lock stitch button to ensure every stitch pattern is locked off at the end and even an automatic thread cutter to trim your threads.

The Janome 8200qcp is a big step up from our first sewing machine (Brother CS7000X). It does decorative stitches easily. The lock stitch button has the machine finish the pattern before doing the lock stitch and stopping. The automatic thread cutter will make cutting thread easier and faster. It can handle layers of fabric better than our first machine. Instructions are good, but you have to pay close attention. When threading the machine, it says hang on to the thread with both hands. It doesn't explain that your spool will dump thread if you don't keep tension on it while threading the machine. So it was a bit frustrating the first few attempts. Threading is actually easy once you get the hang of it. For bobbins, we haven't had any problems using the ones from our Brother machine on the Janome. The bobbin winder works similar to the Brother machine. The touch screen controls are easy to use and clearly explained in the instructions. We're already using it to finish Christmas gifts. The 11 inches of throat space makes handling fabric easier than on smaller machines. While quilting will probably be what is done most, we will also use the machine for other things, and the free arm has already been useful. If you're going to be sewing a lot, and want an all purpose (other than embroidery) machine, I think the 8200qcp is worth the money. ... show more

    • Big, Heavy, Capable machine.
I upgraded from a smaller,14yo Janome. This machine is very big, heavy, and the very large throat is a game changer with bigger projects. The foot lifts extra high for thick projects and the machine has the umph to go through all those layers with grace. It's easy to thread, bobbin drops in and threads very easily. The (included with my package) table is huge. There's no storage case, but it comes with all the extra feet, a knee lifter that is nice to have. I don't know that there's anything unusual here for a machine that cost $2000.00 - but I haven't found anything I don't like about it yet. ... show more

    • Works Beautifully, easy to set-up, the extra big extension table is great.
The sewing machine came packaged very well. It was easy to start sewing right away. Having all the extra accessories included was a selling point and being able to store the additional feet in the top area of the machine is convenient. The additional needle plate can be switched out easily. I’m just learning to free motion quilt and have been able to do better on this machine than I could on my entry level sewing machine. This along with the additional throat space was a major motivation to upgrade to this machine. I expect to do lots more sewing. It’s also very quiet. ... show more

I love my machine!! I am retired and now I can piece and quilt every day. After extensive research I decided on this one. I have never owned a Janome before. I have a great straight stitch machine with a 9" throat but I wanted a speed control and the availability to zig zag and do decorative stitches. I thought I'd use both machines. The threader works great as does the thread cutter. The automatic tension is perfect for piecing and when I quilt no matter what batting I am using. My machine is so much quieter. The 11 inch throat gives me the room I need. I have done 2 queen size quilts on it with double batting. I would highly recommend this machine for any quilter wanting to free motion or ruler quilting. I did buy a large extension table. I can't tell you how the button holder or zipper foot works but if you want to invest in a good computerized quilting machine that's versatile for all your quilting this is a great investment at a reasonable price without breaking the bank for a longarm. I’ve had this machine for more than a year now and it hasn’t disappointed me. I use it for garment sewing, mending, quilt piecing and finishing. I love to use the decorative stitches to embellish my quilt tops. The big sewing space is just what I wanted.

    • there is a bit of a learning curve with this machine
easy to use needle threader; fairly nice selection of feet; adjustable speed is nice; a LOT of capabilities. The foot tension adjustment is hidden on top of the machine, which means you have to stand up to see it. it also does not really sew well through layers of fabric. Ir has a lot of frills but I will probably never use most of them. ... show more
