  • Very nice sewing machine
This is a very nice machine. I had a very similar machine previously, and it lasted many years. It has all the stitches you need but no embroidery. It's strong and reliable. Easy to thread. I did a lot of research before I decided to purchase basically the same machine again.

  • Excellent machine
I am very happy with my Janome HD5000. Previously I had a New Home machine that is made by Janome. Had it 5 years and wore out the needle bar, and couldn’t find the replacement part. All of the bobbins and feet fit this new machine. It is much quieter than I’m use to. It has 18 stitches which is more than I will use but I learned how to do the overcast stitch today to finish the raw edges of my zipper pouches. It has a nice “real” instruction manual. I love the see thru bobbin, which was on my must have list. No complaints from this sewist. From my experience so far (3 days) I would highly recommend. ❤️ ... show more

  • Defective Machine
I have had a Janome HD 3000 for the past four years. Some of the parts were starting to wear out so I decided to get a Janome HD 5000 machine. I was so excited today when the machine came. The box looked like it had taken a beating. I make dog carrier purses and I’ve made 631 of them using the HD 3000. The first time I tried to sew a straight seam on this machine I broke three needles. When I put the machine in reverse the needle hit the bottom plate and bent. The needle threader was hit and miss. It was very difficult to use. I think I got a machine that was returned as none of the parts were in the box. No zipper feet or sewing tools. They were all missing. I can’t tell you how disappointed I am that Amazon sent me what looks like a returned machine. They didn’t even check the box to see if all the parts were in there. I packed it up and I am returning it tomorrow. ... show more

  • Kano
Worked well for 7 months and is locked up. The hand wheel will not work properly and move. I’m very disappointed after being very happy with my Janome. I’ve cleaned it regularly and it’s not working now.

  • Great machine! Sews through several layers of denim. Glad I bought it!
I'm a 70 Year old man with great big fingers and this this machine works like a charm for me. I'm not a a sewer but even I have figured out how to stitch up some pants hems. Great machine!

  • Janome is a very dependable sew machine.
This is my second HD5000 in 6 months. Since my first purchase of a Jerome Sewing machine to start an alteration business with, I have never used another Brand. I was told by a very well qualified repairman, that it was the best, requiring less or no repair with proper maintenance. I needed to add another machine and I decided to upgrade from a HD3000 partially because of the great sale during Amazon Days and felt a more powerful machine was going to enhance the ease of sewing heavier fabrics. I was so happy with it that I purchased a second machine to replace my 3000 that I had been using for over 15 years. Also, I purchased two new Jernome sergers or over lock machines during two consecutive Amazon days after the Serger I had been using for 15 years was not doing the best job. ... show more

  • A Delight To Use
This machine is a delight to use. It's powerful motor does everything I tell it to do without prompting to sew thick layers on tote bags I make. Easy to transition from Babylock electronic machines which I used for several years. Took a little practice to learn to use the needle threader. I'm pleased it will NOT require expensive service and repairs like electronic machines. Fairly priced. ... show more

  • You won't regret buying this machine.
My wife should be writing this review, but since I bought it and heard her agonizing over the decision of which machine to purchase and from where for weeks or months, I feel like I'm nearly the consultant that SHE is on these. It's very strong, very powerful, and apparently Janome warrants these for life (do your own research on that, sounds too good to be true...) It's SO strong that the sewing table I made for her is now going to need another layer of 3/4" ply, because it vibrates crazily under certain conditions of load and speed. While I learned to sew like an amateur as a kid and later still as an amateur in theatrical costume shop, and got used to all machines (other than high-speed commercial type) working about the same, these have some key differences in needle-threading and bobbin-winding (which I'll say my wife is happy with - not yet had the chance myself, and she's jealously guarding it...) Also learned that "Janome" is not pronounced as it appears: it's really "ja-NO-meh," because it's of Japanese origin: the name "...means 'eye of the snake.' The company earned the name in the 1920s when founder Yosaku Ose, a pioneer in Japanese sewing manufacturing, began to use a round metal bobbin system instead of the traditional long shuttle." ... show more
