Description

Jacobs Chuck ball bearing taper mount chuck. One-piece sleeve eliminates crack between driving teeth often found in other designs. Through-hardened sleeve teeth plus hardened nose and keyholes provide outstanding wear resistance. TIR 0.003-inches maximum at half capacity. 0.04-inches minimum and 0.625-inches maximum capacity. 3JT mount and K4 key number. 4-5/16-inches close and 3-17/64-inches open length. 2-5/8-inches sleeve diameter.

These Jacobs ball bearing chucks have been made in China for many years now. Do they compare to the old ones that were made in USA? No, they don't. Alot of people will find and purchase an old, used USA made chuck (Ebay) and rebuild them with kits available from Jacobs. That being said, the one I purchased is very nice. It was a bit gritty at first when opening and closing, but with a little gear lube and manipulation it became much, much smoother. The most impressive thing I discovered about this chuck is in regard to run-out. With a 3/8" gauge pin mounted in the chuck, there was only .0003" run-out measured 1/2" below the chuck jaws. I performed this test several times to verify my results. Very impressive! The last thing I'd like to mention is that I purchased this chuck with the "Used - Acceptable" option from Amazon Warehouse. $90.33 vs $235.00 for the new option. I do not see anything "used" about the chuck I received at all. Needless to say, I am extremely pleased with my purchase. ... show more

I bought a jet JDP 12 drill press and the chuck it came with had a bad wobble to it. The Jet chuck had "JT3" engraved on it so I took a chance on this chuck after not being able to contact anyone to help me with the fit. This chuck fit the drill press like I hoped. I just wish Jacobs support would have actually helped me instead of saying they would and then never responding to me. ... show more

This is an alright chuck but not the Jacob's of 10 years ago. I bought this for my 12×36 lathe but after looking at the quality and the made in China stamp I ended up rebuilding my 20 year old jacobs chuck for the lathe. The jaws appear to be finished by hand with a file, each one has a different interior profile. The feel of the chuck is no different from an interstate or accupro chuck.
