Description

J.K. Adams: Over 65 Years of New England Yankee CraftsmanshipSome of the world's finest woodworkers can be found in New England. The rich heritage and folk lore of the great Yankee Woodworker is as well known today as it was hundreds of years ago, and the craft has been handed down through the generations. J.K. Adams success is certainly attributable to the early Vermonters employed by the company while in its infancy who brought forth the techniques and quality craftsmanship that could only come from generations of shared knowledge and experience. The J.K. Adams factory has been at the same location since the beginning. As many as three generations of families have relied on J.K. Adams to provide for their families. Located in a rural area of Vermont, J.K. Adams remains one of the largest employers in the area and is an important pillar of support for our local community. J.K. Adams has always used the creativity and skill of their workforce in developing new products, and today J.K. Adams continues its New England craftsmanship with a wide variety of cutting boards as well as wooden salad bowls, kitchen islands, and slate serving trays. And at the J.K. Adams factory, you'll find future generations of woodworkers building upon the traditions begun over 65 years ago. Cutting boards and other products made by J.K Adams are manufactured in the USA. J.K. Adams' Company HistoryFounded by Josiah K. Adams in 1944 over 65 years ago in a small garage in Dorset, Vermont. The Cooper family purchased the business from founder Adams in 1949. We began our production with Speedy Racer toy, and then followed by manufacturing drafting and surveying tables, Kiwi shoe groomers, gifts, and furniture. Today, J.K. Adams is the leading supplier of wooden storage and food preparation products for the specialty housewares industry. About J.K. Adams' LogoIn colonial New England, three strokes of a broad ax were used to mark the finest trees in the forest for the Queens' Navy ship masts. The broad arrow was adopted as our logo because it symbolizes the exceptional quality of wood that goes into our products. Why choose a J.K Adams Rolling Pin?Our rolling pins are handcrafted in Vermont, USA of Maple wood and feature waxed barrels, easy-grip handles, a full-length steel axel, and self-lubricating bearings for a lifetime of smooth rolling. Caring for your rolling pin is simple, wash by hand in warm soapy water and dry thoroughly.

  • Practically Perfect in Every Way
This rolling pin replaces one we used for many years that was damaged in a recent move. It appears to be exactly the same as the one it is replacing and performs identically well, i.e., perfectly. I would like to address two issues that some reviewers have raised about the pin. 1. The sticker. Perhaps the company has responded to the complaints about the sticker being difficult to remove by changing the adhesive, but I had no significant problem removing the sticker. It is true that it did not come off easily and must be removed with some care, but I did not find it especially difficult to do. I carefully raised one corner with my finger nail until I had enough lifted to grab the label with my fingers. I then very slowly and carefully pulled the sticker off, pulling it back over its own face side. The sticker came off in one piece for me with no difficulty. There was a darkish mark on the pin where the sticker had been, but it was not at all tacky to the touch. I rubbed it with my thumb and it lightened significantly. I expect the dark patch to simply disappear over time with use. It may be that the adhesive is more of a problem on older stock items if the adhesive hardens with age. If that is the case, I would refer those interested to read the several reviews in which owners have found successful methods for removing the sticker. Also, the label was at one side of the face of my pin, where I place my hands in using it, so the label would not have been an issue (except, perhaps, aesthetically) even if I had left it on. 2. The rough texture. Those who said that the pin is not well finished, likely are not bakers who have used a rolling pin of this type. It is deliberately left with a slightly rough finish, so it will better hold the flour that is used to "dust" the pin to prevent it sticking to dough when rolling it. Again, it is perfectly made, and functions perfectly, for the job it is intended. This is a great product, and potential purchasers should buy it without reservation. Incidentally, for those so interested, I have found that the Wilton Fondant 20-inch Rolling Pin Guide Rings are a tight, but functional, fit for this rolling pin. • Best rolling pin ever!
This is a solid hardwood rolling pin. It is the made in the USA version. JK Adam’s was sold out online. This was $10 more than buying directly from the manufacturer, and I have one now. It rolls out dough perfectly and is weighty enough to do the work for you. I love that it is smoothly balanced with no uneven spots. I have used this with puff pastry, pie crust and sugar cookies. It works flawlessly and allows me to roll out puff pastry quickly without risking the dough becoming too warm. Unlike the tapered rolling pins, the entire surface comes into contact with the pin. Tapered pins can vary hugely in the taper - some only have 7 inches of straight area. I made the error of buying a tapered rolling pin, and I HATE it! So frustrating and takes too long to roll out delicate crusts evenly. To the reviewer who suggested buying a dowel from Home Depot: Just Don’t! Some wood is treated with chemicals that leak into your food - especially fat soluble chemicals. Also, a true rolling pin made of hardwood is heavier for the same diameter and does most of the work for you. ... show more

  • Perfect Rolling Pin.. keep it away from flames
I had one of these rolling pins for over 10 years and had no issues with it....until I rested it on the stove and turned it into a yule log. So I was annoyed with myself and bought another one. Hopefully I have learned my lesson. This particular model was also recommended by America's Test Kitchen. This rolling pin is a great length and diameter and I like the fact that it does not have handles. I can also use the ring attachments to control the thickness of dough (Rolling Pin Guide Ring Spacer Bands (8 Piece Set) Multicolored Flexible Silicone Slip On Baking Accessories Fit 1 3/4” to 2” Wide Dough Rollers). ... show more

  • Solid rolling dowel
I love my french rolling pin with the tapered ends but... if rolling out large squares, for cinnamon rolls for example, the rolling area of the french pin is limited. After I saw the rolling dowel on an episode of ATK, I knew I wanted one. I love the solid feel, the smooth finish, and the blunt ends. The length is generous. It's not as heavy as I thought it might be, which is nice as I pick it up and roll with it, it's not tiring my arms any more than any other rolling pin. Made in America, this is a really nice solid option for rolling out large squares or rectangles, making puff pastry, or other large jobs. While I won't be getting rid of my french pin, this is a very welcome addition to my kitchen. ... show more

  • Great rolling pin; loses one star for sticky label issue
This is a beautiful, substantial, nicely turned maple rolling pin. I wanted one uniform in size to roll out larger pieces of dough. I almost didn't order it because of the reviews about the sticky label placed on the work surface, but decided to order it anyway with the tips from other reviewers in mind for getting the label and residue off the pin. I followed the advice of the poster who suggested using your fingers dipped in food safe, clear alcohol (vodka in my case). After a few minutes of rubbing the sticky area with vodka and a quick rinse with warm water, this did the trick in getting the residue off. Once it's dry, I'll finish it with a little cutting board mineral oil as others have also suggested. I took one star off my review for the label/residue issue since it seems this issue has been flagged for a long time and there is an easy fix, i.e., put the label on the plastic bag or on the end and not the work surface. ... show more
