  • Worked Perfect, much better than a Paddle Bit!
Size: One Size
Was using one of these within an hour after receiving.....needed to make 8, 1" inch holes in treated 4 x 4's.....not an issue, worked excellent, a paddle bit would've been destroyed, just let the bit feed itself thru the wood. Good buy for me, thank you

  • The only? sensible way to run cable through 2x4 studs
Size: One Size
You could use a spade bit I suppose: push, struggle and take a break after the second one. With these bits you pretty much touch the tip to the wood, trigger the drill and sit back and watch. No push required. The threads on the tip suck the bit through the wood. You'll have time and energy to spare, to wipe off the shavings at the far end. The short bit length, ideally in combination with a right-angle drill or adapter, gets you in even when studs are narrowly spaced. If you're a first-time DIYer I strongly suggest you read up on the electrical code on drilling through studs. Do it wrong and you could cause a fire and/or weaken the stud. ... show more

  • Great but avoid hitting screws.
Size: One Size
I recently purchased the Irwin Tools IRWIN SPEEDBOR Drill Bit Set for Wood, 4-Inch, 6-Piece (1877239) and have been quite impressed with its performance. The drill bits are incredibly sharp and make quick work of wood, allowing for smooth and efficient drilling. The set includes a variety of sizes, which is perfect for different projects. However, I did encounter one issue: once you hit a screw, it's all over. The bits don't handle screws well and can get damaged easily. Despite this drawback, the overall quality and performance of the drill bits for wood are excellent. I would recommend this set to anyone who primarily works with wood and can avoid hitting screws. ... show more

  • Nice shorties for drilling through 2xs for electrical
Size: One Size
These have always worked well for me and I occasionally wear certain ones out so I but the assortment each time. Im pretty hard on these in that I hot nails and screws which are the kiss of death. There are ones that tolerate hitting metal better but even those aren't meant for hitting heavy guage and structural screws. ... show more

  • These are great bits and the 4" length is great for wiring.
Size: One Size
These 3 wing bits are so much better than spade bits. They're faster, they clear chips much better, and they are much less likely to jam up. They do require a drill with some torque, though. A good 3/8" cordless will run up to 3/4" easily, but I think a 1/2" drill is probably a good idea for 1" bits. If you have a side handle, use it. The 4" length is great, because it's plenty to get through 2x lumber, and it's short enough that many regular drills have plenty of room to drill between 16" studs, so you don't need a right angle. With a right angle drill, it'll get into some tight spots. This isn't a woodworking bit, so it will often/usually not make a pretty exit. It's for construction work. I've run the 6" size on extension to fish in ceilings, and they work great for that. The recesses allow the extension to lock onto the bit, so much less risk of losing it. Much better and faster than extensions that use set screws. ... show more

  • Good bits for drilling in Douglas Fir.
Size: One Size
Good value for someone who is going to use these for drilling rough holes in softwood. I drilled about 100 holes in 3 inch Douglas fir, and the bits are going strong. Be careful because they are aggressive and will put significant amounts of torque on the user if using a high-powered drill. The length of the bits in this particular set is shorter than another similar Irwin Speedbor bit I purchased at the hardware store, but still did the job just as well. In fact some may discover that the shorter length will allow you to get into tighter places. Nothing for me to complain about this set. ... show more
