I'm very impressed with the Ring Spotlight Cam Plus. The HD video quality is sharp and clear, making it easy to see what's happening around my home both during the day and at night. My current setup is the Ring doorbell, doorbell solar charging mount, indoor chime, this Spotlight Cam Plus and the 4w solar panel (UPDATE: Replaced the doorbell cam with a plug-in Spotlight Cam Plus as the doorbell cam was getting insufficient light to stay charged). Setting everything up including the preferred settings in the Ring App was surprisingly quick & easy. Everything appears to be quality construction and the ability for the Spotlight Cam Plus to hold 2 batteries is a plus in my book. When mounted as suggested, video quality & motion detection are great, and the solar panel does a good job of keeping both batteries topped off even when mounted in a less-than-ideal location (panel facing due East is the best I can do). To mount on the vinyl siding w/o drilling any holes, I bought these from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XG17SPY?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 , and they work very well w/the mounting holes on the camera's base. Very easy to attach or move, if need be, but be aware they're also easy to remove just by rotating the camera up 90 degrees. This makes theft easy so if you go this route be sure to mount up high where it's hard to reach. My only real complaint about this camera: I specifically chose the Spotlight Cam over the regular Outdoor Cam Plus because I wanted the motion-activated LED lights as a deterrent to would-be intruders. Unfortunately, it wasn't until after I had it mounted and set up that I learned the LED lights motion-activate only with a wired or plug-in power supply, not solar or battery. This is not mentioned anywhere in the description (not Amazon's fault) and had I been aware of this would probably have gone with the less expensive Outdoor Cam Plus for my needs. Aside from that, I would recommend this camera to anyone who is fully aware of its capabilities & limitations. 4.5 stars, thumbs-up! ETA: I contacted RING tech support and after a number of tests they believe the camera's defective, the LED lights should be motion-activated even when on battery. They're sending me a replacement, I'll update this review after the new camera is installed & tested. ETA2: After another factory reset and reboot, the camera LED lights now appear to function normally. At 2am this morning they came on as they should when I entered the back patio. Research shows this is not an uncommon problem with this camera, but I still give it 5 stars. ETA3: I now have 6 of these cameras arranged around my house; 5 plugged into weatherproof exterior outlets & 1 with a solar panel, all with the dual internal backup batteries. Two of them failed early on; one with a burned-out video processor and the other died and wouldn't go into setup mode. RING was quick to help diagnose then replace them. Aside from that, I love the ease of initial setup and the abundance of monitoring/recording options. It's worth it to explore all the options, that's when these cameras come into their own. Ex: The various modes (Disarmed, Home, Away) allow you to choose when the verbal warning ('Hi, you are currently being recorded') is active. We have it 'on' at night for our front door camera or when away, but 'off' during the day when we're at home (always 'on' the other cameras when active), the indoor chime lets us know if someone approaches our front door. Also, I switch off the AI detection choices (like vehicles, people or packages) as that slows the alert response time. Adjusting the motion detection zones and sensitivity can take a little while depending. Another plus for me over other cameras I've researched is the available solar/plug-in extension cord that allowed me to best place the cameras yet still use plug-in power. Despite the two outright camera failures, I still give this camera 4.75 stars. ETA4: I now have 7 of these cameras in use with 3 on solar and 4 on plug-in power, all with dual backup batteries. Performance has been very good for months, with the only problems experienced being one camera (the hardest to reach, of course) will occasionally go offline (3 times in a year?) and require pulling the power cord & batteries to restore functionality and rarely a camera will start draining the batteries despite being on active solar or plug in power, but rebooting the camera starts charging the batteries again. Still highly recommended if you want an outdoor security camera w/lights.

I’ll start by saying this is the only home security cam I’ve ever used. But i don’t have any complaints or reasons to try any other brand! What these cost are extremely reasonable, compared to the quality of the product itself & adding that peace of mind to your life! I own 2 of them, exactly the same version: one over my front door, the other on my back patio. I live in a townhouse (meaning each side of my home shares a wall with the next-door tenants, so there’s no way to have a camera on “the side of the home” but if I did have a side wall facing the outdoor world, I’d have more of these cams!) Very first time installing the first one, I spent less time than I predicted. You’ll need an electric drill to mount the base plate. They’re more sturdy than they may appear. Don’t be intimidated by the technology side of things. It’s pretty simple! You’ll need a smartphone & a monthly subscription. There are various versions with certain features. I pay $11/mo. for the basic package, and it’s all I’ve ever needed. Which is well worth it! You will also need a reliable WiFi connection at your home. On the app, you can adjust how sensitive the motion detection is (as well as many other settings). You can change the lights to be always on or off/ brightness/ motion-activated, etc. keep in mind, all these options do affect battery life. But their charge does last a surprisingly long time! 2-3 weeks at a time, I’ve noticed. It has to have a lithium battery in it (included) to operate; there’s also an option to put 2 in simultaneously, so you don’t have to swap them out as often. Batteries charge by removing it from the camera, bringing inside, plugging into a USB cable + outlet cube. That being said, you’ll want an extra battery, so the camera can stay running while the dying battery charges. The image is clear enough, I can easily tell at a quick glance if that’s the neighbor’s kid, if that’s my roommate, our usual postal service person, etc. it also has audio recording that’s very clear too. So if you ever needed (God forbid) to report to police someone was threatening you, yelling at you, etc. here’s all your evidence! Having these 2 cameras truly does bring me comfort, knowing I can be aware what’s happening at home, even while I’m traveling or at work all day. Just the simple fact that the thing lights up very bright during motion, will startle a burglar away. Much recommend! Side note: if you’re going to install any surveillance within reach of very close neighbors (like me) I think it’s legally required that you make them aware of the possibility they may inadvertently be recorded brief moments here n there. My neighbors didn’t seem to mind. Because if someone broke into their door, they could ask me for the recording. So it can be a win-win, but please let people know. Otherwise that’s kinda like “breeching privacy”.

The camera works as expected, as long as you do not rely on solar to recharge the batteries. I’ve had this camera for about a year and a half now and the camera works as expected and works well. It is powered by two batteries along with a ring 4 W solar panel to keep the batteries charged. Generally the panel gets the morning and afternoon sun and is not obstructed by trees or any other obstacle. What I have found is that the charging is very intermittent. Sometimes it detects the solar panel and charges, while other times it does not detect the solar panel at all and says I should consider installing one. Sometimes it will charge at night because there is a light above the solar panel, which actually does provide a little charging. Most of the time, though I would say it does not detect that there is a solar panel plugged in. I have reseated the connector several times and made sure to turn it in the opposite direction in the event that there was a poor connection on one side of the USB-C, but not the other. I have reset the camera to factory defaults and let it download the firmware updates. I have been on the phone with Ring Customer support in the past. All of this to no avail. Generally, my batteries will last about a week before I need to charge them manually. Personally I believe it’s a firmware issue, but of course there’s no way to know for sure. This camera is in a remote location with no electricity available to plug it in, which is why I rely on batteries and solar. The picture I uploaded shows one battery at 74% with the other battery not installed (removed to charge). It also does not show any indication that the solar panel is plugged in, which of course it is. It’s a sunny day right now and the panel should be getting quite a bit of direct sunlight and this picture was taken during that time. Bottom line, if you purchase this ring camera I would not rely on solar. It’s not consistent (ant least for me) and generally you’re no better off than just setting the camera options for maximum battery life and charging it every week or two. UPDATE 1/2026: I have increased my rating to 4 stars for two reasons. After replacing the Ring solar panel with a different one it appears to be charging and staying connected all the time now. My guess is that the previous Ring solar panel had an intermittent problem. Since I have swapped out the solar panel, it has worked as expected in the batteries stay charged. The second reason I am giving 4 stars is because of the excellent customer support I received from the Ring expert line. They contacted me and asked what they could do to help me. I spent some time on the phone and figured out a few things with them. The camera is charging, and the quality of the image is good and I will see how it does long-term.

Got these for my home and they work great! We like the Ring camera system. Easy to setup and use. We have had them for a long time at my old home and now at our new home and we love them! Camera quality is good enough for us. Notifications come through very easily and I think they are a great buy for the money. Durability is definitely there.

Excellent Security Camera with an Incredible Field of View I’ve been extremely impressed with my Ring Spotlight Cam Plus (Battery). Setup was quick and easy, and I had it connected and monitoring my property in just a few minutes. The first thing that stood out to me was the incredibly wide field of view. It covers much more of my yard than I expected, which means I needed fewer cameras to monitor the areas I care about. The video quality is excellent during both the day and at night, making it easy to identify people and activity. The built-in spotlights are bright and effective, the motion detection has been very reliable, and notifications arrive quickly. I also appreciate how easy the Ring app makes it to customize motion zones and notification settings. The two-way audio is clear, and having a siren available adds another layer of security. Battery life is decent, but it really depends on how much activity your camera sees. Because mine records a lot of motion events, I paired it with the Ring Solar Panel, and I highly recommend doing the same if your camera gets good sunlight. It has made ownership much more convenient by greatly reducing how often I need to recharge the battery. Overall, the Ring Spotlight Cam Plus has been reliable, easy to use, and has given me real peace of mind. If you’re looking for a battery-powered outdoor security camera with excellent video quality, an outstanding field of view, and dependable performance, I highly recommend it.

***UPDATE as of 2/13/26*** So shortly after I posted the review below, I got an email from Jessica on the Ring support team. She wanted to review the issue and see how she could assist. It took several emails, a snow and ice storm and syncing with my handyman/electrician to investigate further. Once we finally had a meeting, I shared the Mac id with Jessica and then she politely told me that a new device will need to be sent to me. No arguing or disputing if we did anything wrong with the install. No long drawn out troubleshooting. I returned the defective camera and within a day or two, the new one was sent to me. Again, I needed time to get my handyman back to my house. Jessica was sure to contact me and said she will not close the case until the new camera is installed and all is well. That occurred today without any issues at all. So not sure I can say why the camera stopped working after a relatively short time but I am beyond impressed with the level of service rendered. I also thought the device was past the warranty. I have so many things going on that I almost told Jessica, leave me alone🫣!!! But she was beyond persistent in providing excellent service and I am so very thankful. I have had a couple of incidents at my home so do appreciate having the additional camera besides the Ring doorbell. As you have seen from the recent news, how important these devices are in getting evidence when a crime happens. Hopefully this lasts for a while and thank you Jessica and Ring!! ***** Very disappointed in lifetime use. I bought it in July 2024, took me a few months to have my handyman install. Installed initially with battery use but the batteries seemed to run out very quickly and I did not want to keep climbing on a ladder to swap out. So I bought the hardwired kit in July 2025 and it successfully worked for a few months. Then it just stopped—preview not available. I worked with the electrician to try every steps suggested (reset, remove and add, check power, turn off circuit breaker, etc). Nothing worked. It kept saying software update, when done it’s online but still no preview available. I paid for almost a full year of video preview without the service. The flood light worked okay all through. When the camera worked, it was great. Both my other ring cameras worked fine. Very disappointed.
