My current setup is the Ring doorbell, doorbell solar charging mount, indoor chime, this Spotlight Cam Plus and the 4w solar panel (UPDATE: Replaced the doorbell cam with a plug-in Spotlight Cam Plus as the doorbell cam was getting insufficient light to stay charged). Setting everything up including the preferred settings in the Ring App was surprisingly quick & easy. Everything appears to be quality construction and the ability for the Spotlight Cam Plus to hold 2 batteries is a plus in my book. When mounted as suggested, video quality & motion detection are great, and the solar panel does a good job of keeping both batteries topped off even when mounted in a less-than-ideal location (panel facing due East is the best I can do). To mount on the vinyl siding w/o drilling any holes, I bought these from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XG17SPY?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 , and they work very well w/the mounting holes on the camera's base. Very easy to attach or move, if need be, but be aware they're also easy to remove just by rotating the camera up 90 degrees. This makes theft easy so if you go this route be sure to mount up high where it's hard to reach. My only real complaint about this camera: I specifically chose the Spotlight Cam over the regular Outdoor Cam Plus because I wanted the motion-activated LED lights as a deterrent to would-be intruders. Unfortunately, it wasn't until after I had it mounted and set up that I learned the LED lights motion-activate only with a wired or plug-in power supply, not solar or battery. This is not mentioned anywhere in the description (not Amazon's fault) and had I been aware of this would probably have gone with the less expensive Outdoor Cam Plus for my needs. Aside from that, I would recommend this camera to anyone who is fully aware of its capabilities & limitations. 4.5 stars, thumbs-up! ETA: I contacted RING tech support and after a number of tests they believe the camera's defective, the LED lights should be motion-activated even when on battery. They're sending me a replacement, I'll update this review after the new camera is installed & tested. ETA2: After another factory reset and reboot, the camera LED lights now appear to function normally. At 2am this morning they came on as they should when I entered the back patio. Research shows this is not an uncommon problem with this camera, but I still give it 5 stars. ETA3: I now have 6 of these cameras arranged around my house; 5 plugged into weatherproof exterior outlets & 1 with a solar panel, all with the dual internal backup batteries. Two of them failed early on; one with a burned-out video processor and the other died and wouldn't go into setup mode. RING was quick to help diagnose then replace them. Aside from that, I love the ease of initial setup and the abundance of monitoring/recording options. It's worth it to explore all the options, that's when these cameras come into their own. Ex: The various modes (Disarmed, Home, Away) allow you to choose when the verbal warning ('Hi, you are currently being recorded') is active. We have it 'on' at night for our front door camera or when away, but 'off' during the day when we're at home (always 'on' the other cameras when active), the indoor chime lets us know if someone approaches our front door. Also, I switch off the AI detection choices (like vehicles, people or packages) as that slows the alert response time. Adjusting the motion detection zones and sensitivity can take a little while depending. Another plus for me over other cameras I've researched is the available solar/plug-in extension cord that allowed me to best place the cameras yet still use plug-in power. Despite the two outright camera failures, I still give this camera 4.75 stars. ETA4: I now have 7 of these cameras in use with 3 on solar and 4 on plug-in power, all with dual backup batteries. Performance has been very good for months, with the only problems experienced being one camera (the hardest to reach, of course) will occasionally go offline (3 times in a year?) and require pulling the power cord & batteries to restore functionality and rarely a camera will start draining the batteries despite being on active solar or plug in power, but rebooting the camera starts charging the batteries again. Still highly recommended if you want an outdoor security camera w/lights.

Excellent Security Camera with an Incredible Field of View I’ve been extremely impressed with my Ring Spotlight Cam Plus (Battery). Setup was quick and easy, and I had it connected and monitoring my property in just a few minutes. The first thing that stood out to me was the incredibly wide field of view. It covers much more of my yard than I expected, which means I needed fewer cameras to monitor the areas I care about. The video quality is excellent during both the day and at night, making it easy to identify people and activity. The built-in spotlights are bright and effective, the motion detection has been very reliable, and notifications arrive quickly. I also appreciate how easy the Ring app makes it to customize motion zones and notification settings. The two-way audio is clear, and having a siren available adds another layer of security. Battery life is decent, but it really depends on how much activity your camera sees. Because mine records a lot of motion events, I paired it with the Ring Solar Panel, and I highly recommend doing the same if your camera gets good sunlight. It has made ownership much more convenient by greatly reducing how often I need to recharge the battery. Overall, the Ring Spotlight Cam Plus has been reliable, easy to use, and has given me real peace of mind. If you’re looking for a battery-powered outdoor security camera with excellent video quality, an outstanding field of view, and dependable performance, I highly recommend it.

I'm very impressed with the Ring Spotlight Cam Plus. The HD video quality is sharp and clear, making it easy to see what's happening around my home both during the day and at night. Overall, I’m very happy with my Spotlight Camera Plus. It was relatively easy to physically install above my garage, and it was very easy to set it up with the Ring app. I’m very pleased with the sound and picture quality and brightness of the spotlight at night. The siren is also quite loud and jarring, so I imagine it would truly deter an intruder. It was also reasonably priced and is a good value for the money. I like that it can hold two batteries at a time, as the batteries are much less convenient to replace than the ones for my Ring video doorbells, since I need to get up on a ladder to access these batteries. It’s also a little harder to access the batteries on the spotlight cam. I’m less impressed with the motion detection feature, however. It has registered a lone leaf blowing across my driveway as motion, but failed to detect a coyote. The night vision is also not as great as I’d like. My biggest complaint is that if you change your WiFi network or password, you have to manually reconnect the spotlight camera to WiFi, which means getting on a ladder and physically pressing a button on the camera. This is time consuming and very inconvenient, and I wish it were possible to just change the WiFi password in the Ring app. Overall, though, I’m quite pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone who wants a reliable and affordable spotlight camera.

This is my second outdoor camera from ring I have purchased. I have another security system I use at my dads house but I think I will get these installed next. They are easy to use. All devices from Ring are so easy to install! I love the ability to use my phone. The competing device is not near as user friendly. The price is reasonable for an outdoor camera. The camera knows the difference between people and pets or birds. You do have to buy a subscription. I think $9 a month is fantastic to keep an eye on your property. I often speak to people through the camera when they stop by the house. the sound is great. The one I have in the front of my house has been there for 5 years and with the solar panel I never have to charge or deal with charging. I purchased this one for my back yard as I often have workers in the yard and its so nice to keep an eye on things. I also LOVE that it is compatable with Alexa. Perfect product!

***UPDATE as of 2/13/26*** So shortly after I posted the review below, I got an email from Jessica on the Ring support team. She wanted to review the issue and see how she could assist. It took several emails, a snow and ice storm and syncing with my handyman/electrician to investigate further. Once we finally had a meeting, I shared the Mac id with Jessica and then she politely told me that a new device will need to be sent to me. No arguing or disputing if we did anything wrong with the install. No long drawn out troubleshooting. I returned the defective camera and within a day or two, the new one was sent to me. Again, I needed time to get my handyman back to my house. Jessica was sure to contact me and said she will not close the case until the new camera is installed and all is well. That occurred today without any issues at all. So not sure I can say why the camera stopped working after a relatively short time but I am beyond impressed with the level of service rendered. I also thought the device was past the warranty. I have so many things going on that I almost told Jessica, leave me alone🫣!!! But she was beyond persistent in providing excellent service and I am so very thankful. I have had a couple of incidents at my home so do appreciate having the additional camera besides the Ring doorbell. As you have seen from the recent news, how important these devices are in getting evidence when a crime happens. Hopefully this lasts for a while and thank you Jessica and Ring!! ***** Very disappointed in lifetime use. I bought it in July 2024, took me a few months to have my handyman install. Installed initially with battery use but the batteries seemed to run out very quickly and I did not want to keep climbing on a ladder to swap out. So I bought the hardwired kit in July 2025 and it successfully worked for a few months. Then it just stopped—preview not available. I worked with the electrician to try every steps suggested (reset, remove and add, check power, turn off circuit breaker, etc). Nothing worked. It kept saying software update, when done it’s online but still no preview available. I paid for almost a full year of video preview without the service. The flood light worked okay all through. When the camera worked, it was great. Both my other ring cameras worked fine. Very disappointed.
