When I saw this available for pre-order at the beginning of March (2025) I was excited but skeptical. I was looking for a modest priced, high(ish) resolution Ring camera that allowed remote viewing and exceptional motion detection both during day and night. For previous battery/rechargeable Ring models (cameras and doorbells), I don’t think they had the ability to remote view or record full motion (before and after an event), but this camera can! Wiring electricity to power a camera in my back yard was out of the question, so theoretically, this no wire, rechargeable camera was the perfect solution for my need. Setting up the camera with the Ring app was simple, as was configuring and installing the wall mount. Recharging the battery was confusing at first, mainly because I initially skipped the instructions pamphlet. Essentially the battery slides out of the camera and is directly charged by a mini usb (hdmi) cord (which is included, just no power block). This means the camera never needs taken off of the wall mount. The bottom of the camera can be unlocked and twisted off, allowing you to slide the battery out to recharge. Recharging can be a potential inconvenience, especially if the location you’d like to monitor has a lot of activity (like a GANG OF NEIGHBORHOOD CATS). Side note, the cats were not the reason I bought this—in fact I wasn’t aware of their morning shenanigans until after installing this. With that said, because I came in a little under budget with this camera, I did opt to order the mountable solar panel to hopefully extend the battery life and/or eliminate the need to recharge this camera’s battery altogether. Once it’s delivered and operating for a bit, I plan on updating this review. Overall, for the price, I definitely am pleased with the quality and responsiveness of the camera and am looking forward to see how it holds charge with the solar panel. If you’re looking for a Ring camera that does not need hardwired and like to have the ability to record, remote view, and have accurate motion detections, this camera may in fact be for you!

I have several different Ring cameras and this one is great. My placement may not be the best, but it works well still. The picture is better vs my stick up cameras outdoor. I have the pro one, which is an elephant compared to other Ring cameras. But this 2K one is basically what I expected. May be slightly larger than a stick up camera, but by no means too big. The ones saying this thing is enormous must only have indoor Ring cameras. Compared to those this is large. I’m hooked up to an off brand solar and it works great charging this thing. I don’t see any issues with battery or motion sensing. In my picture you can see the night vision which is good. Connection to WiFi is smile and I don’t have any issues with it dropping. I have an Eero 6E connected to all my Ring devices, and one is through the Ring Chime. Overall I think this is a nice little upgrade in resolution and I recommend it.

Video quality is pretty good, but the wifi radios in these things is abysmal. We're talking poor signal 15 ft away, line of site, through a window to an access point. Shame on Amazon for releasing these sub-par products. I will likely need to find another vendor who can put a decent wifi chipset in their devices. Reduced my review from 3-stars to 1-star the following reasons: 1. At 15' away, -80 dBm and the cameras would often disconnect. I even installed a new Unifi AP near their location and locked them to that AP. -80 was the best I could get. I ordered a few Arlo Pro 5s cameras, just for a comparison, and -45 dBm. Same location, same access point, no disconnections. 2. Battery life tests were an abysmal 3 weeks on the Ring Outdoor Cam Plus, very few events per day (1-2). 3. Ring support did call me after my review here. I tried to explain to them what was going on. As soon as I mentioned that I had a few Arlo cameras I was testing without similar issues, they just hung up. Ring could have had a customer for life with me (I was very excited to be on board with them), but I will be staying far, far away from Ring.

This camera has worked out better than I had expected. Very decent clarity and good coverage. It connected to my Wi-Fi very easily, but I had to choose a closer mounting point. Either my wifi or the camera's sensitivity would not penetrate my home at the distance I thought I wanted. As it turned out, the second placement choice was a better location after all. I would have no problem recommending this to anyone with realistic expectations. I did have to go online for the mounting instructions. Not a big deal, but the included instructions could have been better. Mine is the wired version, not the battery.

Pros: The field of view is slightly wider than the previous outdoor cam, and I can say the image appears sharper than the previous model as well. Cons: (For wired versions) The power cord is shorter, so if you’re replacing an old outdoor cam, plan to have 2-3’ less cord length to work with. This is also bigger than the previous outdoor cam, uses a different mounting bracket, and switches from a barrel plug to USB-C. The new mount seems a bit flimsy and the small plastic washers and nuts sprang out when I disassembled it to switch to a gimbal/wall mount which isn’t very user friendly. A bit disappointed that literally every component had to be different/redesigned so replacing the previous model is a complete uninstall and reinstall.

It’s better than ring stickup cam, better than ring cam pro. The camera angle is much wider, so you can see a lot more on this camera than on ring stick up cam or ring cam Pro. The picture quality is pretty similar, perhaps slightly better. If I get another ring camera, I would get this or ring spotlight cam. Definitely worth it and does the job. *The base of this camera is bigger than the other ring cameras. They are not interchangeable.
