I bought this to help mix plant fertilizers (water soluble) and added micro-nutrients. It takes warm water and a good bit of stirring to dissolve this so a inexpensive lab type magnetic stirrer was perfect for the job. The unit is whisper quiet and the only sound you really hear is the slurping of your liquid being stirred if you turn the speed up high (higher than needed I might add). While it might not be OSHA lab grade, this is perfect for things like I'm using it for. The body is plastic, but the top plate is stainless. I would not recommend putting any container with a liquid hotter than "tap water hot" on the plate, but there are plenty of applications it can be used for. ... show more

I am very pleased, here's why: - Speed control is smooth from a very slow speed all the way to super turbo speed and easy to control. I'm impressed with the quality of the dial and adjustability. - Seems to have a strong magnet, easy to catch the spinner in the jar - Light weight, compact, easy to store, fits up to a 5" diameter flask or jar without hanging over the edge. - I have used it a hundred times without any issues.     • Mixes shellac perfectly
Bought this to mix shellac. It works perfectly for the job. The speed control is nice to dial it in so that it mixes at the highest velocity while not splashing. Just set your shellac + solvent in a mason jar and walk away. Let it spin for a couple hours and you got perfectly mixed shellac. Works great to remix it as well if it starts to precipitate out.
