  • Great budget CPU, dominates 1080p.
Style: Cache
I grabbed the i5‑12400 for a budget‑to‑midrange build, and honestly? it punches way above what I expected. After my own benchmarks it was clear that it has very strong performance for the money. In many games, it delivers near‑top‑tier 1080p fps while costing far less than high‑end chips. Even for everyday tasks; casual browsing, editing videos, multitasking, or light content creation, etc. The responsiveness is impressive. It's packed with 6 cores and 12 threads and is more than enough for a casual and light power user, and it handles multitasking smoothly without feeling laggy. The temps are pretty low considering it's low TDP, but it can get hot if you don't have adequate cooling and regularly put it under heavy load. For gaming (with a decent GPU), performance is great. In some tests it even beats more expensive chips in games and CPU‑heavy workloads at stock settings. The best part is how balanced it is — good speed, modern architecture, relatively low power draw, and strong price‑to‑performance value. If you want a CPU that won’t hold back a gaming or daily‑use PC but don’t want to overspend, this one’s hard to beat. Bottom line: For the price, it’s one of the smartest buys out there. Whether you’re gaming, browsing, streaming, or doing light creation work — i5‑12400 is a rock‑solid all‑rounder. ... show more

  • Great price and performance if you demand new stock
Style: Cache
Importantly, the images on the listing at the time of my review (April 2025) indicate that the item is the i5-12400F without the iGPU. I purchased, and the listing is titled for, the iGPU-equipped 12400. I bought this to upgrade from a PSU-self-destructed AM4 platform system, and is my first Intel-based desktop to date. I've used Intel CPUs inside all my previous laptops, so having the thermal headroom and performance of a full-fat Intel 12th gen chip was a very nice change-of-pace. My 12400 runs comfortably cool with a great big air cooler on it, and it turbos as expected when playing games, with the iGPU being a great tool for media encoding and second-display-output if I need it without taxing my NVIDIA card any more. Performance, when properly cooled, can easily match the advertised box speeds, and while the LGA1700 platform is dead with the end of the 14th generation, and very much outdated compared to the Core Ultra line of processors over the last few years, this is a great CPU, but a little pricey when bought new. ... show more

  • Great performance for the price
Style: Cache
This processor is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a solid balance between performance and price. I have it in my PC, and it runs smoothly on everything, from daily tasks to demanding applications and games. The architecture is efficient, turbo boost kicks in when needed, and the 18MB cache helps keep things fast. The integrated UHD 730 graphics are decent for office work and multimedia. If you’re not planning on using a dedicated GPU right away, it’s a great option. Easy to install and runs cool. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Fast!
Style: Cache
This processor had been a life send! The speed and quality are steps ahead of my gross old pentium processor. I can’t speak to the cooling as much as I have added a cooler master fan on it to cool it. Came with enough thermal paste and installation was easy as long as your grounded a safe. This think is so fast on boot ups and shutdowns! ... show more

  • Great, Amazing Performance
Style: Cache
CPU is Great, especially coming from a 4th Gen i7. Turbo Behavior is really aggressive, causing it to heat up and the stock cooler to ramp up. Not sure if it’s my motherboard causing that, but it’s a really nice chip.

  • Solid bang for buck and with a decent cooler.
Style: Cache
Upgraded a 2600K pc with this CPU, B660 board and 32GB of 3600mhz ram. It feels incredibly snappy now. With GPUs now costing your firstborn child, it's nice that this upgrade boosted an aging gtx970 FPS by 5-15%. (@2560x1080) Gaming is also much smoother as low-FPS spikes are effectively non-existent now. The included heatsink and fan is actually not as terrible as I was anticipating. It doesn't get all that loud and it looks halfway decent. It seems to keep the temps down to the mid 80s under stress testing (70 ambient) and mid 60s during actual gaming. I will replace it eventually but I'm not that concerned as it works fine. I did wipe off the pre-pasted thermal grease and added some MX-4 instead. The internal HD 730 is nice to have as a backup. Anyone who doesn't need that should seek out the "12400F" model as it's the exact same chip with no internal GPU, and it should be $15-$25 cheaper. As of this posting, it's hard to beat the value of this CPU (12400F/12400) for gaming. ... show more
