I got this camera for my daughter, she's 8 years old, and she is really enjoying it. The printing works ok. Occasionally the paper roll gets caught up in the mechanism, and the image will get distorted as it prints but you can always reprint it. They're sort of a technique to how you need to tear off the last paper to encourage the next one to work better. The black and white thermal printed images work best with high contrast, but you can get decent photos of people and objects if you frame them well and have a bright foreground. There are other options like printing with a dot based image versus a grayscale image, and you can play around with some funny features like frame and mirrors. There are some fun options in there. The images are not quite full frame like they show in the photoshopped listing. What's interesting is the way it tears and prints they kind of have the same framing as old school Polaroid image. From the time you press the button to the time you have a completed print is roughly about 10 seconds. I went ahead and bought some confirmed BPA free paper. It claims on the listing that it is BPA free paper but there's no indication of that on the box or on the paper. It did work fine with the aftermarket paper. The camera itself is fairly easy to use just to take photos. As digital images they're a little washed out and it's not a high quality digital camera but it's decent enough for a kid. They are passable though, and the weak point is probably the plastic lens. It feels fairly well made, and if your kids not too rough it should last for a while. But don't expect this to be quite as robust as even a cell phone. I think a good drop would cause this to be broken. It also has a selfie camera which is easy to switch with a simple button press. You can also turn off the printing with one button press. That's nice that you don't have to dig through the menus for some of those basic options. Additionally the camera works as an mp3 player, but you need to add the SD card, and I have not tried that out yet. It does have a little speaker, and I would suspect the sound would be quite tinny. It also has four games which are a little bit difficult to play using the menu buttons but something to keep kids occupied with if you're on a car ride or something I suppose. I did have a minor issue with the camera taking photos, printing them but not saving them to the SD card. I'm not sure how that happened and I'm not able to reproduce it but we lost a few of the digital images that way. Camera does have auto off and has an internal lithium ion battery that charges via USB-C. The battery lasts a pretty reasonable amount of time. I was able to take and print off roughly 15 to 20 pictures before it even dropped a bar on the battery meter. It also comes with a lanyard and some stickers and kind of crappy markers for coloring on the paper. Overall, think this is a pretty decent camera for a kid, and it's fun to play with even as an adult. I think it's a pretty good value.

This little insta print camera is cute and small. The controls are not hard but you need to know what they all do and how to move around which I figured out without the instructions but for a child probably not and they will need to be tough. The camera size is small and the window is small. It’s like a mini Polaroid, so cute. The buttons are easy. There are buttons to move up or down power, flash, ok to select and a few more. The selection screen is very simple and easy for kids and adults to select what you want with very kiddish pictures. The camera is a black and white and prints on thermal paper so no need for ink. There is a color option in the settings although I don’t know how you would be able maybe with an add on or a different model. I can’t say for the battery life but it does come with a charging cord to recharge and the battery didn’t go down with our playing with it. Included is a fun long strap, two rolls of thermal paper plus the one inside already, a set of tiny markers to color the photos for the kids to have fun and a set of stickers. The quality of the canera is decent. Made of plastic but fairly sturdy. But the photo quality is terrible very dark and hard to see unless your in full light and low resolution. I tried gray scale and the gray dot options which are the only two and the dot version was a lighter print. One con is that after tearing the paper from the previous picture you have to make sure it is free from the front of the door because it got stuck a few times when printing and bunched up. So in all this is a cute toy for kids or adults but for fun you’re not getting any quality photos to have for years and for memories. It functions well and is not overpriced for instant pictures but it’s a fun toy and not for memory saving as they will probably fade since it’s a thermal and the pictures are terrible quality and very dark. It may take decent pictures if your out in really nice light but the resolution is still low. Also it said full after three photos and I had to delete them but you can add an ssd card for storage which you will definitely need. It would have been nice if they included a card. But it does what it says and prints fun pictures right away. Just not quality pictures. Great for a child learning to take photos or just starting out because they want to be a photographer from a young age.

Paper gets stuck in feed and won't print. When it does print, only a portion of the photo comes out once you can get it unstuck. The paper bunches up and the ink smudges. Photos are dark and terrible quality.
