The pressure cookers' pressure valve won't pop up. It ends up burning the food because of lack of moisture. We already returned one of these for the same reason. Unless you hover over the pot while it's cooking and manually lift the valve up, it won't work. Review changed: After contacting the super responsive customer support and working through some issues, They sent me a new model. I didn't ask for it, they just sent it after watching my videos. I have an 8.5 Ninja but it is too large for just my hubby & I when I used it. Ordered this smaller size & it makes everything I make so much easier plus making yogurt is so easy. Cleaning is a breeze as I just put the complete lid in the dishwasher w/out removing the vent or silicone ring.

I've only had this beautifully new sleeker design for a few weeks but it does what it says. I've used the slow cooker feature for country style ribs as well as a chuck roast with veggies! It performed well. I was a little confused for the slow cook settings but it seems to have worked fine. Keep your instructions close by and you'll have good results too. ... show more

    • Terrible heat, terrible pressure building, equipment failures. Do not buy.

So my Instant Pot Duo Plus started getting burn alarms a lot (like preheating on saute with just oil in there) after about 3 years of heavy use so I decided to get a new Instant Pot. I'm a travel nurse and move every 3 months so the more package features (slimmer, disconnectable power plug, no nob) sold me on this one... and I'm supremely disappointed. First off, I've had it for 2 months - don't use it as much during warm weather so wanted to make sure it wasn't user error. I've done about 8 meals now and it's miserable to use. Here are the primary issues so far: 1) It takes a forever to heat up. Going from saute to ready to use takes easily 2x as long as my previous old one - over 10 minutes to reach "ready" status but I'm having smoke from avocado oil before that (high smoke temp). If you throw your stuff in early it cools expenontially and doesn't get back to temp. It took me 20 minutes to brown 2lbs ground beef (after waiting 10, minutes for it to heat up and oild started to smoke). 2) It takes absurd amounts of time to reach pressure. This is something every new user has a learning curve with - I'm a vet user so trust me when I say a long time - 30 to 45 minutes average. I've had it take over an 1 hour a few times. You might as well slow cook because this combined with issue 3 make trying to pressure cook tedious and useless. 3) Equipment failures. So far the "steam bobber" (not sure of the real name) has stuck 2x requiring me to jiggle it loose so that it would pop up and it would actually start to build pressure. This initially happened on my second cook. This makes you have to constantly check on the thing on this already crazy long heat time and when you have to "help it" the stream is blasting out so hard you are at hight risk of burning yourself. ...Additionally, when using quick release it blasts out sauce/food from the vent requiring me to cover it with a paper towel to save the walls. These are the same recipes I used in the same quart size Duo Plus and never had this happen a single time. Basically I waited too long now to return it so as mentioned above this thing will likely be relegated to a glorified slow cooker and I'll be looking to Ninja for my next pressure cooker because I can't support a company that puts trash like this in the market because there is no way they didn't know about these issues. ... show more

    • Defective Pot

The Rio is a real disappointment. I did the water test and I thought it was never going to seal. It finally did seal after a several minutes of a lot of steam coming out of the valve and making a loud hissing noise. I have not been able to cook anything in it though. I’ve tried potatoes and beans and rice and always get a “food burn“ error message. I’ve done all of the suggestions with this error message and nothing works. I ordered this several months ago so it’s probably too late to return it. I’ve always had the instant pot duo, and it’s a real workhorse, I love it. I gave my duo instant pot to one of my kids and bought the Rio because I like the black color and thought it would look better in my kitchen. UPDATE: I did end up contacting Instant Pot support. They had me redo the water test and this time the water was barely lukewarm when I got the food burn error message and there was a burning smell. The instant pot support person agreed the pot was defective and said a new one would be sent to me. I should receive it within the next 14 days.     • Very versatile piece of equipment

Can cook a variety of foods and , for the most part , you do not need to closely monitor the process. Although recently it did slightly burn some frozen chicken I was cooking in it. This is a replacement for an original Instant Pot that I gave away and it never burned frozen chicken. I like this for making yogurt, but the owners manual in one place says use the Low setting for fermentation ,but in another place says use the Medium setting. My experience is that the Medium setting works much better than Low for fermentation . Also, add one packet ( enough to make one qt) of dry powder milk to each qt of milk you are processing This device does a great job boiling eggs also. ... show more
