  • Ignore the packaged instructions; installed on 99 Tacoma.
Size: Keyless Entry
I am no wiring guru. I am a normal person who just works on their car. The included instructions were useless to me. What ended up working for me, for just basic lock/unlock functionality using the "Keyless Entry" version (no alarm), was as follows on a 99 Tacoma. Wiring will work with 95-00 Tacoma. 1. Get wiring table from Commando Security or other website for my 99 Tacoma. Disconnect car battery. 2. Print out the diagram of different lock mechanisms from the Amazon listing 3. Apparently (figured out via trial and error), my truck works best with the "Negative Trigger", so we will be using that. 4. I was not going to use the parking lights / windows, so I first collected the wires on the IG unit that were not going to be used at all and tied them up and away so I can focus on the other cables. I tied up (not using) the following wires: Gray, Green, Pink (windows), Purple (Parking lights), Big Purple (trunk). 5. Remove the underpanel underneath the steering wheel (4 10mm bolts, 1 phillips screw), and kick panel (snap in, but requires you to open a couple of screws on the door sill). Remove hood latch cable from the main underpanel. 5. Using an automatic wire stripper, I spliced onto the White cable going up to the ignition (12V), and soldered this to the IG unit's red wire. 6. Stripped and joined the IG unit's Black, Blue, and Yellow/Black cables, and soldered that to a ground (I added a ground cable to an existing grounded screw in the kick panel area) 7. Following the wiring harness that comes from the driver side door, you can identify the harness with both the red/white cable and the red/yellow cable. This harness is in the kick panel area, not the immediate hood latch / fuse area. 8. Splice and solder the IG unit's Brown cable to the harness Red/White cable. Splice and solder the IG unit's Yellow wire to the harness Red/Yellow Cable 9. Ensure you insulate all splices. 10. Tuck away the unit into the kick panel area with Zip ties or the double-sided foam tape. 11. Test and confirm it is working before re-assembling the interior panels. ... show more

  • Great little product with exception
Size: Alarm & Keyless Entry
A lot of people complained about the instructions. The instructions are lacking a little if you are not familiar with car alarms. If you know what you are doing it does make sense. After a week of research I was able to figure out the meaning of terms and the instructions. Most of it is simple point to point wiring. The hardest part is and will be the door locks. You really need to research the type of locks you have and that is where the terminology and understanding of the circuit comes into play. I was installing mine on a 1990 ford mustang and these have type c reverse polarity door locks. The 5 wire relay configuration. Now once you understand that you can wire it up using the provided wires since the unit comes with onboard relays to do the job. I did try that first and it works for the most part but the wires do not carry enough current to open and close both sides of the locks. I happened to have two SPDT relays from work that I wired up using the five wire configuration. The catch is you have to cut the door lock and unlock wires and split the signal. That was the hard part to understand. What helped me was the 451M instructions. It explains everything you need to know about the different door locks and how to determine which is the switch side and which is the door lock side of the wires you just cut. If you don’t have these relays then I highly recommend the 451M. I used those instructions and used the install gear module to trigger those relays instead of using them to fire the locks directly. This allowed me to provide more amperage with thicker wires. Again I highly recommend researching the 451M module which is basically two relays in one unit. The only wires I didn’t use where the started relay cutoff wires and the window wire. Good luck and I hope this helps. There were no videos or websites that explained exactly what to do so that is why I am trying to provide some insight for future customers. ... show more

  • Door lock HOW-TO. A must read review
Size: Alarm & Keyless Entry
The media could not be loaded. I have had this alarm product for six months and when I first installed it, I could never get the door locks to work properly. The alarm itself worked just fine, but without the door lock function working with the actuators, it was kind of useless. I embarked upon my own research after much frustration. I did manage to get it to work, however I had to purchase 2x 5-pin relays. The relays are inexpensive and wiring them using logic and not their confusing instructions worked just fine. I made a video of it working and I am including a simple diagram I made that illustrates how to wire the door locks. The rest of the alarm wiring works if you follow their instructions but when it comes to wiring door actuators, use my diagram here. Hopefully this helps future buyers. Just know you need to purchase extra relays that are not in this kit to get the door locks to work. There is no alternative. ... show more

  • Great quality
Size: Alarm & Keyless Entry
car alarm can provide a basic level of security by deterring opportunistic thieves with a loud siren when triggered, but its effectiveness is often debated as experienced thieves can bypass them relatively easily
