I'd already ordered a key on eBay (for $30) that was cut to match a photo I'd sent to the seller. I pulled the EWS unit from the car, and using an EK90, read the module, but it turned out the transponder chip on the eBay key was bad so I was unable to program it. (I ordered 2 keys from the eBay seller - one worked, and the other didn't). I bought this key on Amazon, pulled the transponder chip from it and put it in the already cut key, so now everything works correctly. The circuit board for the keyless entry was identical in both the eBay and Amazon keys. Incidentally, the eBay seller refunded the cost of the key I bought on Amazon. ... show more

We got these keys but then learned how tricky BMWs are with their keys. I guess this should not be surprising, but really it takes ordering from the manufacturer - these keys would cost a bit to get made and likely won’t work. I’ve done this with our Toyota and it fine, but BMW is a whole other animal. ... show more

I was a little apprehensive about the programming, but it worked just fine on my 2002 530 series. I did have to try it a couple of times; I wasn’t doing the initial on/off step completely. You’ll want to turn on far enough that the fan comes on, not just the clock, but don’t start the car! Do that five times in a closed door car with a working key. Remove the key, then -with the new key, while holding down the unlock/arrow button, press the center lock button three times with a 2 second pause between. Do that within 30 seconds of the on/off sequence. I’ve not had the key cut at Ace Hardware yet, but it won’t even matter if that part isn’t successful because my original keys are just no longer powered but still start the car! Now my alarm doesn’t scream every time I unlock the door! (A key at the dealer would have been close to $200.) I just ordered a second blank! Note, I’ve not verified this, but I understand there are only a handful of times a BMW key can be duplicated before programming freezes. ... show more

This product was easy to program with the right tools. I purchase the programmer in order to program this. With everything I purchased. I programmed two keys for less than it cost to buy one key from a dealer. Only problem using this route is not for everyone. So if you decide to don't yourself. These did program, you can program the FOB easily but will need EWS programmer/reader to program the transponder but they do work. Buttons are pretty stiff but overall okay for the price.

I read all the bad reviews and realized the buyers had no idea how to work with the keys and therefore failed. If you know how to program the chip with the AK90, it works perfectly. I have a professional key company who will cut a number of these for $15.00 each. I can easily sync them to the car placing the cut key ignition and tune it to the first position. Turn it back and pull it out and hold open button down and push lock 3 times to have it open remotely. Just make sure you do your homework with how to do all this and you will be happy! ... show more
