A good lil guy
Color: Yarn Winder
The media could not be loaded. I actually just got this delivered earlier today and went wild caking my skeins of yarn. Still have some to go but I am pleased with this little guy so far. I was deciding between this one and the kinda meh looking purple one with 2k+ reviews but I liked the photos and the overall aesthetic of the product images on this one better so despite the vastly lower number of reviews I decided to go with this one. I’ve never owned one before so I have nothing to compare it to but I mean, it cakes yarn which is what I wanted so that’s good in my book. The threading arm does rattle something awful while you’re spinning though, just like against your table. So I stuck an old little embroidery test… thing under it and that resolved that issue no problem so I was flying through my skeins. I did find that I like the tension better when I held the yarn just loosely in my hand as it went through the arm while spinning instead of just leaving it on the table. Idk if that’s right or wrong, but it was very loose otherwise and couldn’t fit a whole skein but just like holding the working very loosely as it went through seemed to help a lot. So yeah, cool. If it breaks tomorrow or something wild I guess I’ll update this review but so far I’m happy. Just not with all the yarn fibers that are definitely up my nose now.

Very handy
Color: Yarn Winder
These are usually so big, this smaller one is really nice for winding yarn. Works well and is compact. Would order again!

Does exactly what it’s supposed to do and does it really well!
Color: Yarn Winder
I love this little thing, it’s extremely simple but it works perfectly, and it makes my life so much easier. I am an avid crocheter and an avid collector of yarn. You would not believe the horrible luck I have with yarn storage and not turning the beautiful yarn I have collected into giant tangled messes of unusable spaghetti. This silly little yarn winder has saved my catastrophic yarn failures more times than I can count. This works EXACTLY as one would hope and it makes little tight, neat yarn cakes in no time. It affixes to any solid table using a simple little edge clamp, doesn’t damage the surface its affixed to due to little non-slip pads on the clamp surfaces. It’s super easy to use as well. I adore this thing, if you have any reason at all to have a bunch of yarn around, you absolutely need one of these.

Works well but can damage table
Color: Yarn Winder
I got this winder to make yarn cakes out of my yarn skeins. The winder works well and takes very little effort to use. The padding the clamp for this could use some improvements. The padding on it is insufficient and there are two bits of hard plastic that did a number on the side of my table and chewed up the wood. There's certainly room for improvement on the clamp. I'd strongly suggest using this clamp on a table that you either don't care about or on a surface that won't be damaged.

Does a great job of caking yarn
Color: Yarn Winder
I have a yarn winder that I got a few years ago for winding hanks of yarn. My teen daughter keeps borrowing it to rewind skeins of yarn that collapse as she is working on them. Recently, she told me that she wants to have one of her own. So this is a birthday present for my baby girl, which she got a couple of weeks early. She immediately started caking yarn, and is thrilled with the results. She started with the partial, collapsing skeins, but she has also caked up full skeins, which this handles well. The yarn winder has a clamp to fasten it to a table or other such surface. It does not lend itself well to just holding it to wind the yarn (which is what I do with mine, even though it also can clamp to a table). We've been very happy with the tension in the cakes, and have not ended up with a rat's nest mess of yarn.

Cheap, but works well
Color: Yarn Winder
This yarn ball winder is made of cheap plastic and feels like it, and was also kind of loud while winding (needs oiling?), BUT it also made a really nice yarn cake. So, while I'm sure there are better yarn winders out there, if you're looking for a cheap option, this will at least get the job done.

Woah
Color: Yarn Winder
This right here…the best cake maker. I have another cake maker, the cheapest on amazon. It’s terrible. It slips like nobody’s business. Creates small ugly cakes. The tension on the body is weak so if you need to adjust something it rolls down and makes you have to pull back some of the yarn (if you know, you know). The tension on this cake maker here is So strong and it stays put if you need to adjust. It can be a little tough to wind it because of the tension but it is so worth it. That blue ball is an ENTIRE skein of yarn. The base is large enough to hold an entire skein, amen. I love this. It’s amazing. 10/10

Love it!
Color: Yarn Winder
I've been winding my yarn by hand for years but now that I've used this, I'll never go back to hand winding. The yarn winds so fast and easy and makes a lovely yarn cake. The attachment at the bottom to clip it to a table is a bit flimsy but it does work. I'm really happy with this little mechanical invention.
