Color: Yarn Winder
I'm comparing my Knit Picks brand yarn winder, the purple one, to this INMAKER yarn winder, the pink one. First of all, the size difference is obvious. After spinning a skein of identical yarn (but different color) on each winder, the INNMAKER still had plenty of room to keep going while the Knit Picks winder was pretty much at capacity. For reference, the yarn was sport weigh, 2.5 oz, 230 yards. The resulting yarn cakes were similar size and spun equally well, with INNMAKER cake showing slightly closer tracking of the yarn and a slightly more compact cake. I like the all-metal construction and the larger table clamp, which allows me to slide the unit farther in from the edge of the table. I cannot use my Knit Pick winder on any beveled or rounded edge because the clamp is not large enough to extend past the edge. INMAKER • yarn feeds from behind • larger capacity • frame and working components are metal, yarn core and platform are plastic • large tabletop clamp • unit does not hang off edge of table • yarn core rotates on a single plane while the inner yarn guide whirls the yarn around the core Knit Picks • yarn feeds from the left side • lesser capacity • hidden working components, unknown construction, visually the unit appears to be mostly plastic • small tabletop clamp • cannot clamp to tables that have beveled edges • yarn core rotates and changes tilt while the single yarn guide stays stationary ... show more

  • Learning curve, but super useful
Color: Yarn Winder
This ball winder like any ball winder if you've ever used one does require a bit of a learning curve to figure out the tension that needs to be held onto the yarn and the speed to go to ensure the ball is wound tightly enough to hold but not so tight, it'll stretch the yarn. I absolutely love how much yarn it can wind in one go. I have a much smaller ball winder thinking that 4 oz was plenty and would do just fine. That is not the case. Most of my skins are bigger than 4 oz. And turns out I had made a mistake. I got this one to replace that and I was not disappointed. I can wind any traditional size yarn that I believe are typically about 7 oz with no struggles whatsoever. The yarn pictured above was actually A 10.5 oz. Skein that I had used a small bit of. I'm not sure the total weight of what I ended up winding but as you can see it fit with no problems. This is so much better than having half worked floppy skeins all over the place. It adds a touch of Elegance and makes everything appear more organized ... show more

  • Large cakes!!
Color: Yarn Winder
I’ve had a small ball winder for years but this new model is a total game-changer. I was able to wind 1 lb skeins into perfectly tight balls with ease. One thing to note is that when you upgrade from a smaller winder, the movements are more pronounced since you’re cranking a larger gear, so you’ll need to adjust your tension and pace accordingly. The assembly instructions weren’t outstanding but with only three pieces, a little logic and experience got me through it. Overall I couldn’t be happier with this new addition, it’s truly transformed my yarn winding process! ... show more

  • Bent & damaged
Color: Yarn Winder and Swift
Mine arrived damaged the soldered metal links were already broken apart upon inspection. I actually used electrical tape to attach the metal links that were already broken. Then proceeded to wind up 11 hanks. Of course now I can’t fold the swift up, to store it away cuz then I’d have to remove the supporting electrical tape on the damaged links. If I wasn’t so inclined to wind up my yarn hanks, I would’ve just immediately returned it w/out giving it reconstruction. I will be keeping it as the ball winder is great for winding 2 different colored cakes into 1. I will be replacing the swift with a quality wooden one, because obviously the tape will eventually fail. My suggestion is if you aren’t handy enough to fix it, don’t buy this one. ... show more

  • Easy to set up, easy to use, makes awesome yarn cakes!
Color: Yarn Winder
My daughter is an incredible artist in so many mediums - including yarn (mainly crochet.) She has gotten to the point where she requested a yarn ball winder and after looking at a few, I settled on this one. As soon as it arrived, my daughter had it set up and was creating yarn cakes with her tangled balls of yarn. She LOVES it! This yarn winder is a well crafted, well made unit - easy to set up and easy to use. The yarn cakes it creates are so great - and they are SO fast to make! It take like 5 minutes to wind a skein of yarn, maybe less. I wasn't watching the clock - I was watching this device work. It is mesmerizing and kind of trippy. If she gets to t he point where she harvests wool and starts making her own yarn, I'll have to look into getting her the yarn swift. ... show more

  • Great winder! Easy to set up and use.
Color: Yarn Winder
Really easy to set up and use! We looked at the instructions, set it up pretty quickly, and have been winding up our balls and skeins into cakes! It’s so satisfying, and the winder works really well! It can handle a fairly large amount of yarn or a smaller amount. I do have a smaller winder that’s better for smaller amounts of yarn, because the middle tube is smaller - but this one still works for relatively smallish amounts of yarn. I can make a cake the size of a tennis ball with it, and it works OK, it just is a little looser than a big one after the middle relaxes in. Great winder! Note: because I don’t have a good holder to use and don’t always have a second person to wind yarn with me - I like to put my ball or skein of yarn into a large bowl when I’m winding it up, so that it doesn’t roll all over the floor. That works well for me! ... show more

  • Solid yarn winder!
Color: Yarn Winder
This is heavy duty and smooth running yarn winder. It makes short work of winding yarn balls. When combined with the INMAKER Swift, you can knock out yarn balls within minutes.
