Starting with the basic light, itself, I was impressed. The wooden rings are high quality with excellent workmanship. The metal parts are well designed and executed. The assembly process is simple and obvious. The only improvement would be if they included a tube of thread-locker. As everything is held together with threaded tubes, a drop of adhesive on each thread will ensure nothing loosens with age. More conventional fixtures have glass panes, but I selected this one specifically because it has no glass. My old fixture needed frequent cleaning of its many fragile glass panels. Another difference is that most ceiling lights are flush against the ceiling and don't cast shadows upward. This one hangs below the ceiling (13 inches from ceiling to the bottom of fixture) and casts obvious shadows. Within a couple hours, no one in my family even notices this. If the preceding was all I encountered, this would be a five-star review. Unfortunately, the provided mounting procedure was a nightmare and had to be re-engineered to make it work. Ironically, the manufacturer provides the necessary hardware; they just don't use it correctly. As provided, you assemble everything on the ground and then have someone else hold it on the ceiling while you do the wiring and attach the base plate to the bracket using screws that don't line up in a process that must be done by feel. The provided bracket is designed to attach to a standard hex electrical box. Unfortunately, the screws required to attach the base plate to the bracket interfere with the screws that attach the bracket to the box. What I ended up doing was to widen the hole in the base plate so that it would slide down the tube toward the light. I added a snug rubber grommet below the plate that would later secure the base plate. Next, I screwed the provided bracket onto the threaded tube. This is how most lamps are secured. The bracket can then be attached to the electrical box and the wires connected. Finally, the base plate is raised to cover the connections and is secured by the rubber grommet. I thought about gluing the unused decorative nuts over the two holes in the base plate, but didn't because you just don't notice holes that small at that distance. Update: Now that my husband had a chance to install the light fixture I feel I have to reduce my rating. It took about three times longer than normal to install because the hardware is not adequate and the center screw provided is about half the necessary length (see photo with "too short"). He ended up using the hardware from the fixture we were replacing, see other photo with red circle, but we had planned to reuse our other fixture elsewhere and now we'd have to buy parts to do so. This light fixture looks very nice. The wood is finished nicely and I like that they created a soft rounded tongue and groove joint where the wood pieces connect to form a circle. My son assembled this for me and had no problems with the actual assembly. However, one of the screw holes in the wood was not completely bored so he had to use a screwdriver to remove the excess wood. Minor issue though. Really cool looking light. ... show more
