  • Smokin' fool
I love smoked vegtibles, fish, and game. In the summer I fire up a grill or barrel smoker at least a couple of times a week. In the fall, harvest time, even more often. I live in Ohio where the weather gets bitter cold in January and February. I find myself cooking outside less often on those cold windy days. This is the idea behind the purchase of this stove top smoker. I tried out the stove top smoker with onions. Something simple and inexpensive should results be less than desirable. I used a tablespoon of the sawdust included in the package, and did nothing more than peel and quarter the onions. I have a gas range and used the medium low fire setting. The smoke started up within two minutes. I like a deep pantina, the onions took 45 minutes. I knew the lid would not contain 100% of the smoke, but I found out that I have to "tweek" the lid a bit more to reduce smoke escape. I made this trial run in September, on a mild day so I could comfortably open the windows. The pros- Easy setup/clean up Economical to own and operate Minimum storage space Great smoke flow within the chamber Outstanding results, food wise.. great color and taste Many additional cooking options, (not yet tested.) The cons- The escaping smoke, even after tweeking, is a bit more than expected. A long slow smoked food would compromise air quality in a medium to small kitchen. Ventilation is needed to keep the smoke from being overwhelming. That said, I turned on a box fan to draw air in from a side room, and a ceiling fan in the dining room on the other side to lessen the smoke. This kept my daughter, who's eyes are very sensitive to smoke, from watering. I may cover the pan entirely in foil on days not practical to vent outside air. Will I recommend this stove top smoker? Yes! Would I buy again? Yes! Will I use it in the tiny fishing cabin on an ice fishing trip? Nope! ... show more

  • Great small-sized smoker
I did not know these existed until I took a class at a local cooking shop. What a revelation! So far I've done shrimp and scallops and they have been so tender and succulent! I think I still prefer pan-searing the scallops but this is a great way to cook them. The shrimp were simply amazing. I haven't tried anything else but I think a batch of wings would be interesting. It does emit some smoke but since the seafood cooks fairly quickly it has been fine. If I were going to make something that takes much longer (like the wings probably would), I think I would use it on my grill to keep the smoke outdoors. This is a perfect size for 1 or 2 people, but I made 24 scallops in it for an appetizer for 6 people with no problem. ... show more

  • Not bad!
Used it for the first time to smoke a couple of grouper steaks. This particular one is small, it doesn't hold much, but I squeezed them in. I was smart and used it outside because I didn't want to stink up the house. They turned out pretty good. I will be purchasing the larger size (which comes with a drip pan)to smoke my seafood and use the smaller one for veggies. I'll also try other flavored wood chips for funsies. ... show more

  • READ the instructions
I almost didn't buy this because of negative reviews. I went ahead and purchased the small one. Tried it out smoking ribs and they were fantastic. I went and bought the large one. The negative reviews are clearly because folks didn't read. The instructions say MEDIUM heat. I have electric range and it worked great on medium. Last night I made Tea Smoked tofu. Came out perfectly. You just have to read and follow instructions. ... show more

  • Amazing for Ease of Use; Smoke Smell Persists Indoors
Amazing as far as taste, and ease of use! Would buy again and recommend if not for one aspect... I did the 'tweak' tip to the cover, and even took it a step further and lined the outside with foil for minimal smoke, along with opening 4 windows, having the exhaust fan, and back door open...however I still smell the scent throughout my kitchen and living room the following days after using. Will likely give away, or stick to outside use. Hate to even give this 3 stars, would be 5 stars otherwise! ... show more

  • Fix issues with cooking spray, clips and more
Lid a little tight? Cooking spray makes it easier to slide on and off. A little smoke escaping from the corners of the lid? Use dollar store little black clips to seal the ends of the lid. Hard to clean after smoking? Line the tray with foil. Smoking chips a mess? make a small foil pouch for the chips and poke holes in it to let the smoke escape. Hate to clean the rack? Spray with cooking spray before using. Spray the underside of the lid too, for easy clean up. Smoking small things (nuts, corn off the cob, cut potatoes?) use shallow ceramic ramekins, cast iron single serving dishes, shallow tart pans, or disposable BBQ drip pans (Amazon has lots of things that work). Remember to smoke on medium LOW. Any higher and the chips will burn and impart a bitter taste to your food. Don't count on the smoker to cook meats except maybe fish which takes only 15 minutes or so. For other things, I smoke 30-40 minutes, then finish in the oven. I smoke precooked ( slightly under cooked) vegetables about 15-20 minutes. Great little smoker for two people! ... show more

  • OMG! FANTASTIC!
We have all of our friends and family buying one of these. My husband asks me every time we cook salmon in it why we were eating salmon the wrong way all our lives. It’s so easy! It’s so fast (20 minutes start to finish) the pan is easy to clean! It’s a life changer. And when you cook (salmon. We don’t eat meat so can’t attest to that) but when we cook salmon for anyone they run out and buy one for themselves. Caveat: be sure no matter which size you buy, that you get the delux… you definitely want the handle and the drip pan. Happy eating! ... show more
