I am having difficulty getting the humidity below 55%. the water is in the A slot, and I have tried using paper towels to create a bit of a gap to allow the humidity to go down more...but it is not working. the vents are wide open and still the humidity is too high.

I was actually expecting this egg hatching machine to be a bit difficult to calibrate, but it turned out to be remarkably simple for a digital system. After the first few days of monitoring the humidity and temperature, the reality was that the airflow and heating are much more stable than I thought they would be. I thought the automatic turner might be loud enough to bother the family, but it actually provides a very quiet operation that has made it so it hasn't been a hassle for me to keep the unit in the kitchen area in the afternoon. In a house with five kids and four pets, our science projects are usually a messy scramble of wires and sensors, so having a 360-degree viewing area is a huge win for me. The texture of the plastic casing has a smooth, professional feel and the weight of the unit keeps it from sliding around on the counter when the kids are crowding around to see. When the motor engages for the turner, there is a very quiet whir, and the 24-egg capacity has made it so it hasn't been a hassle for me to manage a decent sized batch of chicken and duck eggs at the same time. Beside the great visibility, the only small annoyance I ran into was that the over-engineered box was packed so tightly that I had to use a metal pick to slide the foam inserts out from under the lid hinges. Prepositions aside, on the humidity control, it maintains levels well, though I did find that the water intake port was a little bit of a tight fit for my larger pouring pitcher the first time. It answers the question of whether a compact unit can actually handle messy hatching days without a struggle, and it hasn't been a hassle for my spouse to help with the cleanup now that the bottom tray is so easy to wash.
