Description

A mating ritual as old as time could be the death of them both… Jax refuses to go through his yearly mating cycle alone and in agony. And the beautiful slave Waverly is the answer to his prayers. He'll buy her at any price and after their time together, give her the one thing all slaves crave, freedom. But Waverly isn't just any slave. A transport pilot double-crossed by Junkeaters and sold to a notorious gunrunner, she'll do anything to escape. The last thing she wants Jax to know is that she's in heat, too. With the Inter-World Council out to hang Jax for a crime he didn't commit, Junkeaters hot on their trail, and ruthless arms traders gunning for them, their over-powering need to mate just might be their death. But if they survive, will the passion still burn as hot between them when they're no longer In Heat? Read more

  • Characters that you care about
I loved Waverly and Jaxon's instant connection and how it felt as if it truly did naturally grow. Good read

  • Good but book 2 is better
Since these books are all standalone stories that just happen to be set in the same universe, I actually started with book 2 which is different and bit better. This one was still hot and sexy, but it was rushed at the end and I preferred the humans in book 2 over the kinda humans but supposedly aliens in this book. Honestly, the sci-fi in this book was lacking. Regardless, this is another beach book that is just long enough to keep you entertained and definitely hot enough to make your holiday enjoyable. ... show more

  • Can't Fight Love!
Jax has been exiled from his planet for a crime he didn't commit. This is his seventh year and the end of his exile. He is about to come into his yearly mating ritual and has decided he is not going to suffer alone again and in pain. He buys a slave, Waverly, for his use and will give her freedom at the end of his cycle. When Waverly wakes up and see's Jax, she is furious. She is NOT a slave but has been posing as one for her crooked boss. Unfortunately, she is coming into her heat cycle. She can't resist Jax and figures she can use him for her needs. In the middle of everything, Jax's compound is attacked and they barely escape alive. By this time Jax has figured out that Waverly is his mate and intends to keep her. She has other plans and is going to dump him as soon as he is safe. They return to Jax's planet where he confronts his father and step-brother and tells them he is going to find out who framed him. Waverly's introduction to his family is shocking! On her planet family is everything and loving. Jax's family is a "Viper Pit". Together they discover who is responsible for his exile and expose them, proving to his father he was innocent. I loved this book!! It is fast moving, but still gives you time to fall in love with the characters! ... show more

  • Not bad
Not bad at all. I liked Jax and Waverly together. The story had action and mystery along with romance. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and the worlds created. There was just enough description to paint the picture but not overwhelm the reader. I would read the next book, despite skipping over the adult scenes. ... show more

  • Not exactly a quality read…maybe 3.75 stars ⭐️
Oh man…this was a really dopey read. The storyline was super weak; the characters really stupid ( in my opinion); the plot twists and turns were really crazy; but at least the HEA was good. I’m deleting this one from my library—I know I won’t ever read it again!

  • Strong and resilient
Jax was accused of a crime he didn't commit at the age of eighteen and banished from his planet for seven long years. He went through a yearly "heat" without being taught what to do or expect. An unconscious Waverly was sold to Jax as a slave to help relieve the affects of his heat. When she awakens she tells him she is not a slave and her partner double crossed her. But that she is in heat also eventhough they are two different species. Someone is out to get them. Either to put them in prison or to kill them. But why? This is a new author to me. Her writing is a bit different but i liked it. Both her characters are strong and resilient. I will most likely be reading the rest of this series. ... show more

  • Very enjoyable read
This is a space romance. There are alien races that have heat cycles, mating cycles, that kind of thing. So among the many problems the H/h face are also how to manage our biology. Very fun to read about and only because human beings don't have to deal with this in real life like some animals do. Right off the bat we have the Hero and Heroine together but they don't know it yet. The action begins in the very first chapter and keeps going. I enjoyed the plot very much. There are bad guys that aren't too bad and then there are more bad guys. The Hero is Mr. Honorable apparently done wrong by the authorities. It's time for him to clear his good name. The Heroine is a good woman that's also been double crossed. How will they get out of this seemingly complicated jam? Through working out these predicaments, they discover that they care about each other in spite of or in addition to being biologically matched up. It's hot, sexy, but very entertaining also. It was hard to tell who the good guys were and the bad guys. I really had a good time reading this. ... show more

  • Good story easy read
Well-drawn characters, motivations made sense. FMC struggled with instant mate Bond but in a sensible way. MMC had interesting and complex family story that kept me hooked to find out what came next. Sex was mildly described, vanilla, and short. The story and characters were written well enough that I really would like to see what happens next for this family. ... show more
