  • Adequate for small tasks
One should know the limitations of this product before purchasing. This is a fine unit for smallish tasks. If you want to fry eggs, make one grilled cheese sandwich at a time or boil 3-4 cups of water for tea, this will easily do the job very well. I have owned three of these in various colors. The first was inherited from the forgotten past; it lasted at least 10 years and probably longer. My second, brought new, lasted 3 years of 3-4 times daily use. I am on my third one, which seems to throw a bit more heat than the previous two, but is more cheaply and loosely constructed. Because it has a thermostat switch, you can control the temperature, but even set at maximum, it will self regulate. So, if you want to try boiling 4-6 quarts of water for pasta, even with a lid on, this probably not do the job for you, even if you have the patience and time to wait a half hour. Update: 5/2/22. Latest purchase, bought long before the date of review, gave up the ghost today after 4 1/2 years of at least thrice daily use. It served well, with an estimated cost less than 1/5 of a penny per use. Very reliable up to point of sudden failure. ... show more

  • Works well but easy to accidentally adjust heat
I have a glass stove at home so this has been really useful in cases where I've needed a coil stove. The only issue I have with the burner is that it's really easy to accidentally bump the knob and change the heat setting, as the knob is pretty loose. Since I use the burner carefully it hasn't caused any real problems, but I could see this being a safety concern if the user isn't careful or has children around. (You shouldn't have this around kids anyway so that shouldn't be an issue.) I also kind of wish that the coil could be completely removed for cleaning (maybe it can be and I'm just stupid) but with diligence I've been able to clean it just fine. Overall this does the job for a great price. ... show more

  • Solid but not hot
A sturdy hot plate, it is easy to clean and is reliable. This is the second one I bought, first was for lighting hookah coals (which it works PHENOMENALLY for even after about 5 years). However, when it comes to cooking, this plate barely gets warm enough to boil water (and not full on boil but right at the edge where it's steamy with some bubbles). It does cook, though. I make pancakes, get rice and noodles hot enough to cook, etc. I recommend it but if you're wanting to cook something with expedience this may not be the plate for you. It was $15 or so, I can't really complain. ... show more

  • I would recommend this
I use this to turn on my coconut charcoal for my hookah. It lights up pretty good, and pretty fast. It’s not as easy to clean because you have to lift up the part that gets heated up, and it does get stuck with the metal. But once you get the hang of it you can definitely clean it. It warms up, or heats up pretty fast. ... show more

  • I would recommend
So far I really like this product. It works great for me since I'm a single person living in a basement apartment without a stove top. It looks really nice and heats up really quick. However if you're expecting to boil water fast, this one is not the one for you. But I've used it for a ton of things already and I'm very happy. ... show more

  • Not Made for Regular Use or to Last
I bought this 5 months ago to use in a kitchenette to cook for one while I'm in the process of renovating my kitchen. On average I'd say I probably have used it 1-2 times a week during that time and as of last night it will no longer heat up at all, so it apparently has about 30 good uses in it. I used either a small frying pan or small pot and it only would heat up enough to simmer water - it never really went to a full boil. When it gets to a certain temperature it will stop heating until it cools down a bit. I like to fry crisp veggies, so that has been a problem because with the temperature they end up pretty mushy and it takes significantly longer than a traditional burner. Still, the burner itself prevented me from having to use the communal kitchen on many occasions which I was grateful for so I can't trash it entirely. It didn't spark or smell funny. I was cautious about safety when I first bought it but it seems sound as far as that goes. I need to buy a new burner now and have to say I won't be buying this one again. ... show more

  • Hard to clean
It worked fine. Pros: - boils water (better if you have kid on the pan) - heats up pretty fast - very easy to use and set the temperature Cons: - smell in the beginning (gone in 2-3 days) - it's not super even; when I add oil to a frying pan, it all ends up on one side - VERY HARD TO CLEAN. I tried to boil soup and didn't really pay attention. As a result, the liquid got onto the burner. It was really hard to clean. First of all, I had to wait until it's cold. By that time soup "dried out" and I couldn't really do anything except adding more water and waiting until it is "handle-able" again. Anyways, I don't want to go through this every time I have to clean it and I just bought a new one, with flat surface. No coils anymore. ... show more

  • Single burner
The coil did not lay as flat as I would’ve liked.
