Best 20 bucks I've spent in a while

Where has this been all my life?? I hate making rice on the stovetop so I avoided making it for years, eating my curries riceless and just being sad about it in general. It's not that rice is difficult, per se, it's that I don't have the patience to babysit it. I've burned it too many times to count, or didn't get the ratio right and it was too wet.. ugh. This little baby completely fixed that issue for me. Now I put rice and water in it and push the button and know that no matter what happens over the next half hour or so, I will still have perfect rice to eat at my leisure. I've used this almost every day since I got it, honestly. (And I have two Instant pots, so don't think this is pointless if you have one of those. This beats the IP for perfect rice, no contest.) I've made jasmine and basmati rice, delicious quinoa, excellent oatmeal, and seriously THE BEST pot of grits I've ever made in my entire life. And I've made a ton of grits! So now I can make rice for my curries (which I eat a lot) AND-----here's the reason I say this is the best money I've spent in ages---- I can make darned near perfect kheer with my leftover rice pretty much any time I want. Life is grand!!! How to make kheer: Cook 1 cup* of rice like normal: rinse rice, add to pot with 1.5 cups* of water, turn it on. (*Cup = the plastic one that comes with this unit, NOT a 16-oz measuring cup!) When it's done, let it sit for about 15 minutes on warm. Add 1 can full fat coconut milk and 1 cup soy or almond milk (or cow's milk if you use that.) Add 1/4 cup sugar, 1 tsp vanilla (or rose water if you happen to have it) and press button back down to cook. Stir in 2 tsp ground cardamom seeds (approx. 10 pods' worth, if you're using whole, but grind them in mortar and pestle or with a spice/coffee grinder) and 1 tsp saffron (optional but recommended.) Put lid on and bring to a decent simmer. Set to warm once simmering (don't let it fully boil again.) Serve hot with sliced almonds, golden raisins, and shredded coconut on top. The next morning, eat it cold for breakfast. It'll be even more delicious. Rejoice that you can eat this literally every day if you want. ... show more

Great Rice Cooker

This Electric Rice Cooker has been a solid addition to my kitchen. It’s the perfect size for small to medium households, and the 5-cup uncooked capacity is just right for making enough rice without leftovers going to waste. The nonstick surface makes cleaning a breeze, which I really appreciate. The rice comes out fluffy and evenly cooked most of the time. However, I’ve noticed that it sometimes leaves a little water or rice stuck to the bottom if I don’t measure the water perfectly. Still working great

I've read some of these rev that say the lid cracks. Silly people. It cracks because you tightened the top handle too tight. It need to be a little loose to expand when the steam hits it. I love my rice maker. I use it all the time and as long as you set a timer and unplug it at that time you get perfect rice every time. When the switch flips to warm from cook you have to be careful. If left for more than a few minutes after it will go from browning the bottom of the rice to burning fairly quickly. I personally like the crispy bottom, but if cooking for guests I know to unplug and take the pot out of the heating compartment as soon as it clicks to warm. I timed it the first time I used it so now I just set the timer when I hit start and get perfect rice every time ... show more

Rice Rice Baby!!

I can never get my rice to come out on a consistent basis. I purchased this rice cooker because I’m usually eating some form of rice weekly. On my own it’s either too hard, too soft, mushy or just inedible. Problem solved. This rice cooker has solved my rice cooking needs. It is now a countertop staple. It’s great quality. Holds enough rice to complete our meals or just to make fried rice the next day. Using this cooker my rice doesn’t burn. It smells delicious and I’m able to cook it in a variety of ways. I’ve used broths, added herbs, added proteins and it has all come out fantastic. No on to creating bowls. I like being able to set everything up and come back to the expectations I had setup. I see this as a utility I will use a great deal in the future and can’t wait to cook more for my family. ... show more
