  • If you are trying to cook food or even boil water this isn't for you
I am shocked that this is sold as a burner. The burner shuts off once a certain temperature is reached and tends to stay off more than on. 2 hours to boil any amount of water, and it rarely will even reach a rolling boil. Frying food is out of the question, the second you put the food in the pan its gonna be another 40 minutes before the pan reheats. ... show more

  • Goes up to a temperature for awhile and then cool off for a while. Then heat back up
I t don’t stay lite, it goes in and out.

  • Really, it has two settings: ON & OFF
Either the coils are bright red (high heat) or not on at all. Tested this before traveling for work, I have to take a crap kitchenless basement for the first two week but I also have to eat. Did my morning fry-up on, or tried to. Convection does something to an iron skillet such that the cure no longer works and everything sticks, so coils it is. Knob says it’s a range of temps, it is NOT. It turns the coil to brilliant red on any setting, the dial just decides how soon it shuts off. And that’s it. You’re toying with high heat the whole time. Hash browns ( I only eat them browned) scorched in some places and that’s with constant vigilance and daily frying in an iron skillet since high school. When it shuts itself off that’s also a pain because now nothing sizzles. The surface area is also a bit small for a standard iron skillet. It’s the equivalent of the little burner on a coil stovetop. ... show more

  • Works great!
The item does not look cheat at all and it really works inside and outside the house. It works as well as a regular stove. I would even buy it as a gift for someone.

  • You get what you pay for!
Arrived quickly! I bought this hot plate to make soap. My greatest need was a steady, controlled source of heat. This was not the right product! The heat fluctuates too much to maintain a steady temp. I can’t imagine using it for much more than heating soup or toasting a sandwich, which is all it’s designed to do. I guess it does what it’s supposed to, so I will keep it. It’s not the sellers fault that I picked the wrong product for my needs. ... show more

  • ideal low cost
How they make this and sell it for the price escapes me but this is a very functional and efficient hot plate. At its price point you can expect 3-4 thousand hours of use before it quits. We use one continuously on low for months to keep a little greenhouse warm in our basement during the winter and if you just expect occasional use this should last a life time. ... show more

  • Heating a galvanized Trough
Ease of use simple straightforward design I recommend to anyone that wants direct heat to pots and pans for cooking and also crafts such as my use lastly it is low tech and inexpensive but always be careful during use.
