Compared to its "familiar 'trusted' brand competition, the Imusa outperforms by all metrixs: The cast iron covering (welded to base) distributes the heat evenly compared to the old coils; it heats up fast, and the extra wattage (1200) is a significant step up from the old 1000. It boils water in a big pot, and simmered chicken consomme, poached 2 eggs, kept all the food piping hot. No impatient "hangry" chef :) The cast iron on black and compact design looks great on the countertop (had to stow my old burner, it looked like a garage item). This little hot plate is small compact and does the job well! I bought it to take to work or camping to make coffee or other things and so far it has worked great. Gets hot quick, maintains the heat well and cools down relatively quickly once its shut off!

Attempted to use this to heat up roughly 4 bowls worth of soup in a stainless pot. The hot plate got the soup sort of warm and then shut off. It didn't turn back on so I believe the "safety feature" auto off temp is broken inside of the unit. I tried unplugging the thing and replugging the thing back in. Didn't fix it. I even tried a different outlet. I got so pissed off I hurled it soup and all into the garbage can. ... show more

The box came completely damaged with a hole right in the center of the hot plate, which is forgivable kind of but the item is completely wobbly. It is not stable at all not one bit and by a lot.

Without temperature settings I could only guess, I guess. There are only numbers. What do they mean? Also it has a real short cord that isn’t supposed to go over the edge of the counter. This is an old house and all outlets are low. I’d have to sit on the floor to do my cooking. I haven’t used it. I took it out of the box and decided to return it. ... show more
