The collar, when working, provides excellent light that is highly visible and effective when walking my dog on dark city streets. However, as too many of the reviews have said, the light consistently turns off on its own, and when turned back on, quits after a couple of minutes. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. If the manufacturer can fix this problem, it would be the perfect lighted dog collar for safely walking in the dark -- and deserving of 5 stars. Update: The seller has immediately replaced the defective collar and the new collar works perfectly. The high visibility of the light and its high quality materials makes for a very safe collar and a great value. I'm happy.

We like this because it really works. Watch the video. In addition, it does not need batteries. Just recharge it with your cell phone cord. Finally, it comes in various sizes. Remember that when ordering. If you walk your dog at night to, this is a must. The price is very reasonable. Our dog doesn't know how cool he looks, but we do.

I've purchased the LED dog collars in the past, however they easily come apart and fall off the dog. This model is much better and more secure. I bought the neon green and it glows great in the dark. We live on almost 5 acres, so it's nice to be able to identify the dog easily on our property. We've only had this for 2 days, so I'll have to update after we've had it for a month. So far we love this one.

Updated review November 2019 (four stars): The most recent collar we have purchased seems to have loose wiring. If our dog shakes while wearing it, the modes change, or the collar will just turn off, and it has been this way from when we first received it. The collar also doesn't seem to hold a charge well in freezing temperatures (somewhat to be expected, but important to note for those of you who live in colder areas). I reached out to the seller/company early on to request a replacement and have heard nothing. Unfortunately, we cannot rely on this collar for safety because it can turn off without warning. It's still helpful when our dog is out at night using the bathroom in our fenced in backyard, but I don't trust it to help us keep an eye on him when he is off leash. The other three collars I have purchased have worked great, so I would still recommend these, but there may be some quality control issues and the lack of response from the seller is discouraging. Definitely test out your specific collar before relying on it for off leash safety. Updated review October 2018 (five stars): I've bought four of these collars now. We have a mostly black dog that is nearly impossible to see in the dark, so I got this collar so we could locate him when we let him out in our fenced in backyard to go to the bathroom at night. It's highly visible (but not blinding), super easy to use, and the charge lasts a long time. I ended up buying two more for my mom's dogs, and just bought a replacement for our dog (he got skunked last night and the LED collar isn't waterproof, so it didn't survive getting a bath in skunk enzyme rinse). We've always bought the green color collar based on other reviews that it's the most visible color. My mom's dogs are two different sizes (a 12 lb poodle mix and a 65 lb lab) so she didn't need different colors to tell them apart. She walks her dogs for about an hour in the morning and again at night and needs to charge her collars once a week. Our dog mostly just wears his for his nighttime bathroom let out (5-10 minutes a day), so we can go a couple months between charges. As others have said, the collar can be more difficult to see on a longer coated dog (it's not as visible on my mom's poodle as it is on our smooth coated boxer/rottweiler mix), and my mom complains that the collar just turns off without warning when the battery dies, which has caught her off guard in the middle of a walk before. This collar is not waterproof and will not survive a thorough soaking or dunk, but it has done fine on our dogs while walking in the rain. It would be really nice if there was a plug for the charging port to make it slightly more water resistant, but I find it difficult to find things to complain about regarding this collar. Prior to buying this collar, I had a little clip on LED light that we used on our dogs regular collar, but the light was less visible from all angles, our dog would find ways to chew on it, and once the battery died I had to buy new cell batteries. I love that this collar is rechargeable. The LED strip is pretty stiff, so it can be a bit difficult to adjust the size of this collar for dogs that are on the smaller end of the size range, and the plastic buckle doesn't feel as heavy duty as some, but it has been secure for the four months we have had it and has not gotten brittle or shown any signs of deterioration. For the price, it's amazing and provides great piece of mind. Definitely recommended! In regards to my previous review > The stiffness does relax over time. After wearing these regularly, the collars all lie flat and don't have bends/creases from where they were folded during shipping. > The smaller sized collars are smaller in diameter to fit smaller dogs. The LED strip is still a bit stiff, but the collars do seem to be the appropriate size for the animal. Original review in April 2018 (four stars): This arrived just a few days ago, so I can only give my first impressions. > Green collar is bright. It provides more visibility than the LED clip on tag we had previously. It's bright enough to see from a distance, but not obnoxiously bright that you don't want to walk next to it. > Collar is a bit stiff (to be expected, but I was kind of surprised as to how stiff it is). It came folded and still has a crease in it from being folded during shipment. Because of this, it does not sit nicely around my dogs neck like as shown in the photos but maybe it will soften a bit with use. > Very difficult to adjust. I ordered two additional collars for my mom's dogs with 19" and 12" necks. I'm worried the extra small will be too bulky and awkward for her smaller dog. > There is a rather large area of buckle and battery where the collar does not light up. On my dog's 18" neck this is easily almost one visible "side" of the collar, but I find that because it is loose, the collar rotates so that the heaviest part (buckle and battery) lies under his neck so the LEDs are easily visible from the back and sides. Overall, I think it's a good value for $19 and I like the piece of mind of having this collar on our dog during night time activities (especially since our dog is mostly black). $19 is a small price to pay to help keep your furry friend safe, and with the collar being rechargable you save money on not buying replacement batteries.

BOTTOM LINE: If your smoke detector only worked half the time you'd dump it or demand your money back - this is the same idea. Bought half a dozen. The cheerful customer service people will replace them every time, but NONE of them work for more than a few days or weeks before they start to turn off at random. When your dog escapes and walks across a busy street, that's when the collar will fail without warning and go dark. It's taken me over two years to get to the point where I was pushed far enough to write this review. I never write reviews unless I have something really important to say because I am always so grateful to others who take the time to do that. The review is for: Illumiseen LED Dog Collar - USB Rechargeable - Available in 6 Colors & 6 Sizes ASIN B00UAINMMK INTERMITTENT FAILURE DUE TO A FAULTY SWITCH. I now have 4 of these collars in two sizes and three colors, and NONE of them works properly. i don't like to complain so at first I just kept buying new ones as my dog grew up, thinking that I'd just gotten a bad one or that it wore out faster than expected. But these are supposed to keep your dog SAFE (!) at night and these collars make my service dog less safe at night, so I had to throw them all away. When function is intermittent it is far more dangerous than if they always work, or if they never work! But the switch was faulty on every single one of them and malfunctioned within 0 to 6 months on ALL of them. There was absolutely no way to predict when it would fail, and once it failed it would continue to fail intermittently: stayed lit for a little while and then shut itself off. YOU COULD LOSE YOUR DOG OR S/HE COULD GET HIT BY A CAR BECAUSE LED'S SHUT OFF BY THEMSELVES. I would take my dog out at night and never know when the light would go off and I would suddenly be unable to see my dog. Thank heavens he is magnificently trained and I exercise him in a large enclosed horse paddock far from any roads. But a dog that wandered off could easily be hit by a car because the lighted collar can become a useless dark piece of fabric at any moment. THE COMPANY IS VERY NICE BUT WHEN THEY SUGGEST THAT YOU DID SOMETHING TO CAUSE IT, DON'T LISTEN. I called the company several times and they are always very nice and polite and send out a replacement if you ask. They are so nice you feel terrible about complaining. But there is always the suggestion that you must have gotten the product wet (I didn't. But give me a break: it's a dog collar; It is useless if it will break in the rain!) or that I hadn't charged it properly (I am a biomedical engineer so I'm pretty well qualified to charge a dog collar) or that I'd done something else to cause failure of the led switch on the product. GREAT DESIGN BUT THE SWITCH IS WORSE THAN GARBAGE. So this is a great design and the people at the company are always very nice but it is unconscionable that they won't dump the bad switches and get some top quality, reliable switches to make this a "safety" device as advertised, instead of a danger to your dog. I need a collar or light that will function reliably if, heaven forbid, there is a hole in the paddock fence someday and my dog gets lost and wanders the half mile to the road. This device will work on mondays and wednesdays and fail on tuesdays and thursdays. For a safety device, intermittent failure like that makes it extremely dangerous. Sometimes it won't turn on at all after you take it off the charger, sometimes it works for 20 to 60 minutes and suddenly goes dark. Sometimes a new one will work great for a week or a month and then start this intermittent failing. But it ALWAYS BEGINS INTERMITTENT FAILURE WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF PURCHASE. Do your dog (and you) a favor and THROW THEM OUT before the day when your dog gets lost and you really need it to work to save the dog's life. If your smoke detector only worked half the time you'd dump it or demand your money back - this is the same idea.
