  • IHB23B vs. QFX BT-206 2.1 Channel NFC Bluetooth Speaker System
This is a comparison review between the iLive IHB23B and the QFX BT-206 2.1 Channel NFC Bluetooth Speaker Systems. For Fathers day this year my wife got me a different Bluetooth speaker system to put in our kitchen because as we allocate the household chores, I usually do the dishes after dinner and I like to listen to music. She got me the QFX BT-206 2.1 Channel NFC Bluetooth Speaker System. The QFX system is a little bit pricier; you can find them right now for around 70 bucks. We LOVE that set of speakers (the QFX). It works great; we get great range with the Bluetooth (about 30 feet), the sound quality is high for a small speaker system, and it can actually get surprisingly loud. Now for the IHB23B. I got these to put in the garage as I lift weights and do yard work. They are basically the same as the QFX with these differences: 1. (I believe this is the most important difference) the IHB23B is not as loud as the QFX. If you are hoping for speakers that will really pump out some sound, these may not be for you. Don't get me wrong, in a small room these are PLENTLY LOUD; but, in a garage/front yard the sound is enough but certainly not mind blowing. 2. Price. The QFX are about 30 bucks more expensive than the IHB23B 3. Looks. Here is where I think the IHB23B really stand out, especially for the price range. These speakers look really good. They have bright blue LED lights around the circles on the speakers and they really do look very nice. 4. Features. This is probably the biggest factor in the price difference between QFX and the IHB23B aside from the volume. QFX gives you more options (radio tuner, SD card slot, USB slot to play music from other sources than just the Bluetooth). Both speaker systems come with cables to plug your ipod/device direction into the speakers rather than using the Bluetooth. 5. This last one may be a little bit nit-picky but here goes: the on/off switch. QFX has a standard "switch" on the back of the subwoofer that clicks up and down like a light switch to turn the system on and off. The IHB23B has a button on the top of the subwoofer that you press to turn the speakers on and off (much more convenient and easy to access). 6. Bluetooth connectivity and build quality. Both of these systems work great; we have no problems connecting to either one right out of the box. Here we are 2 months later and both still work great. All in all, I would say that both of these systems work great and are high-quality, money well spent; it all depends on what you want the speakers for. Are you hoping for more options than just Bluetooth? QFX. Are you looking for something that is small but still pumps out the sound? QFX. Are you less interested in how loud it gets, and more interested in getting a nice system for a lower budget? IHB23B. Looking for something for the dorm room or a bedroom? I would go with the IHB23B. Do you care a lot about how it looks? IHB23B. ... show more

  • HIGH END QUALITY FOR A BARGAIN PRICE!
I bought this set for my 16 year old son's birthday. My son is a techie and absolutely will not purchase any tech items that aren't top quality. He researched for about a month before choosing the iLive Bluetooth Speaker System with Built-In Subwoofer for his room. I was, as always, skeptical they would be that great at such a low price. Again, I was shocked at the quality, great packaging, timely shipping, and the sleekness of this set in his room! Looks VERY high end. And the sound blew us away! The only problem now is reminding him to keep the music (and bass) down at night so that I can sleep! My son mostly listens to rap and when he's playing Polo G etc. on these speakers, it sounds like there's an actual concert going on in his room LOL Highly recommend if you want some quality speakers for enjoying your music! ... show more

  • Good bang for your buck
Speakers distort at high volumes, especially high treble, but bass quality is good. I wished speaker stands were wider and there was a skip or pause button on subwoofer. I did give them a break-in period at low volume for several hours but distortion present. Plenty of sound however for $50, decent buy. ... show more

  • Your ears will thank you!
I had seen this set of speakers in a store, and wanted them so bad! Sadly the store seemed to not want to sell them to me. But now i own this beautiful sounding system! Having the subwoofer hekps with those bass sounds! You can control how much bass or treble you want, as well as the volume. The only downside to this amazing speaker setup, is the bluetooth connectivity. Right now I have it connecting yo my PC, but it doesn't automatically pair up when i turn the speakers on. I have to gominto the settings to manually pair up each time. And for some reason it would not pair up with my laptop. I was hoping that with it being bluetooth, i could swap between devices on a whim. With that being said, im sure i will find the solution, and this will not dampen my spirits to what is otherwise a sweet speaker system! ... show more

  • Creating the perfect sleep sanctuary
I was looking for speakers to put in my room, on either side of my bed. (Stereo thunderstorms and high fidelity ASMR sessions are a weakness of mine and put me right to sleep) With a little modification, these are perfect. The "always on" blue lights were completely disruptive to my goal, so they had to go. Run your fingernail (or butterknife) along beneath the first layer of acrylic on the face, to separate it from the clear layer. It should pop out easy from there, working each side a little bit at a time. This should give you access to the screw heads. I hit the clear plate with a little flat black spray paint (mostly to cover the nicks I'd made with my screwdriver trying to open the wrong half of the speaker) and it looks great! I also drilled a hole in the backs so that I could attach speaker mounts (like these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005BV0FHG/ref=cm_cd_asin_lnk ) I also recommend picking up 2 of these extension cords ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00007FGU7/ref=cm_cd_asin_lnk ) if you plan to run the R & L speakers any more than 3 feet away from the sub (I put my sub under the bed and ran the wires for the speakers up my headboard). The cords they come with are pretty short. If you really want to get fancy, stick one of these NFC stickers close to your bed (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CD94ES0/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_31 ) and program it to trigger a sequence of actions via Tasker. I have mine enable the bluetooth connection to the speakers, quiet notifications until morning, dim the screen, and fire up my favorite "go to sleep" playlist, all in one Jetson's-esque swipe. ... show more
