    • Long lasting, throws sound well
Bought this for a pool party VRBO weekend, was a hit compared with generic JBL/Sony consumer bluetooth speakers. Throws sound with good authority from a distance. Battery lasts a long time (most of the day at mid-volume for background music at pool). Fun to float in a pool speaker-up (even a little water on the speaker will subdue the sound but it's completely dunkable). Will be great for future pool parties and float trips. From a distance (across a yard), the 6x9 speaker has more punch and fills the air better than generic. bluetooth speakers but it's no better for small areas or close play. I'm keeping it because it's well made and sounds great in open areas. I had a Soundboks but returned it because it was overpowering and giant. Bought my son a Demerbox years ago which he loves and also sounds great but I thought the Turtlebox 6x9 speaker might be an advantage over twin 3" speakers for group parties and no regrets with the Turtlebox. ... show more

This speaker works so well. I got it for my dad and he uses it all the time when he is outside cooking. Its super loud and and the sound quality is amazing. It's completely waterproof(from experience my dad accidentally spilled his entire drink onto it). 10/10 would recommend.

    • Awesome speaker, but pricey.
First of all, music is recorded in stereo and is meant to be played in stereo. A single speaker is never going to reproduce good sound regardless of the speaker quality. That being said, I bought two of these speakers and when properly placed, they sound amazing. I spent a week with these on the beach in pretty high winds and was able to hear the music clearly, volume is adequate, but not super loud. The bass is good, it’s a punchy bass which I prefer, you would expect this in a sealed box speaker. I placed the speakers about 10’ apart and about 6-8’ away from where we were sitting, the sound is great, clean highs and mid bass, the stereo separation is awesome, it’s like listening to your home stereo set up while sitting on the beach. The battery life is incredible, on the beach for 7 days playing them at 50% to 75% volume, plus used them as a sound bar for the tv through our Apple TV’s Bluetooth, that was awesome, recharged them once. I put each speaker in white nylon laundry bags to help protect them from the hot sun and blowing sand. I know these are designed to take a beating, dragged through mud and sand, thrown in water and cleaned up by hosing them down. I’m way to OCD to test that with an $800+ dollar pair of speakers, you can watch videos of others water testing, dropping them off ladders, pickup trucks etc. I trust they can take a lot of abuse, I’m just not the abusive type. Now, speaking of price, these speakers are crazy expensive. I have friend who has a JBL extreme 3, it sounds pretty good alone, I imagine the sound would be pretty amazing with two of them paired. I never liked the design of the JBL’s, they look awkward, the Turtle box design is much more rugged and utilitarian, very simple design. Aside from all of that, the JBL is well built speaker, it has 4drivers, more wattage and is fully waterproof. Battery life may not be as good, they state 15 hours, not sure if that’s at full volume or mid volume. Currently the JBL’s are selling for around $225, down from $375, you can basically get two JBL’s for the price of one Turtle box. The Turtle box is an awesome speaker, especially when paired together, are they worth $400, probably not, $250 would be more reasonable in my opinion. I’m planning to keep these but if I had it to do over again, I would get two of the JBL’s extreme 3’s and do a sound comparison. If the sound was even close, it would be hard to pass on a $400 savings. Theses are made in China, price should be much more competitive, for that, they lose a star. ... show more
