Clamps onto a table or desk nicely, and came with padding on the clamp as to not damage furniture. It took me a moment to sort out this yarn winder - the instructions were good but there was a bit of a hitch in the gears. I opened it up and found the gears were in good shape so I played with the tightness of the screws holding the winder together (there are two, one on top and one on bottom) until I got it working right. Once tuned up the winder spun very smoothly and produced a quite pretty yarn cake (one side a little less pretty than the other, just flip it around if you're showing off a fancy gradient or something). I did find the yarn feeder jiggled a bit while I was using it so I needed to hold it down with something (my phone worked) to get a really perfect cake. Over all it worked great and is a great value for the price!

This yarn winder was difficult to me. It frequently got off track and I kept producing messy cakes. Finally I got some better results by adjusting the feed bar. I had quite a few failures with it. I have never used one of these before so it could just be the learning curve. There aren't a lot of instructions to this and I learned mostly from the net on how to use one of these and problems one might encounter. The unit is made from a light weight plastic so I am not sure how durable it will be. The gears are plastic and they came disengaged which accounted for a lot of my troubles. I tried very hard to like this unit and don't know if it was just me or the machine that was responsible for the failed winds. I provided you a video that has me on a good day, except for my sniffling due to a cold, so please forgive my noisy nose and thank you for considering my opinion.

This works as a two hand operation. We found that you need to hold and put tension on the string as you wind it or it dosnt make a tight ball. But it does work and is even kind of fun to use.

I was really looking foward to getting this winder and it did not disappoint. I really didn't need the included instructions, there were a couple of things that I needed to attach to the main piece, clamp it on the table, thread and attach the yarn in a couple of spaces, and then I was ready to go. I did a little positioning experimenting woth the skein of yarn - it worked out better for me to have it in a little lower position than the winder. It took no time and I had my whole ball completed, which came off the spindle easily. I like that the center pulls out easily. Works as advertised!
