I'm going to start my review with THE REASON I returned this item. I've assembled lots of parts and machinery and I know for a fact that the slot connecting the top piece (where the ladder stands) to the adjustable neck DID NOT FIT. I could clearly see the slots where they're supposed to meet and they were perfectly aligned but they just would not "snap" properly. This prevented the safety pins to be used since the holes were not aligned, leaving you with a wobbly platform. I needed this equipment to work because of a project I'm doing and I did everything I could to make it fit: I perfectly aligned the inserting piece to the slot and used a rubber mallet to gently hammer it straight down, but nothing. Furthermore, when I unboxed the Aide Pro, all screws, nuts, and washers were completely scattered everywhere. I found that the packet that holds them had a very intentional rip, making me believe that someone else owned this product before me and then returned it (I made sure to put them all back in the baggy and taped it shut). In the event that someone did own it before me and caused the defects in assembly, then that's incredibly unacceptable as well because I paid full price for what's supposed to be a new item but instead couldn't even use it at all. ... show more

    • Well designed - the way to go for painting walls in stairways

I had some doubts when reading the advertisements about this device. But, the only alternative was scaffolding which was going to be a nightmare to install and would have to be rented and transported. This unit is adjustable for just about any stair dimensions and is very stable. We used it with a 16 foot extension ladder, but with the ladder all the way retracted at 8'. A longer ladder would not work in a typical stairwell. Also, the adjustable ladders like Little Giant and others sold at Lowe do NOT fit this device as those ladders flair out at the base and are too wide to fit the Ladder Aide. One person can set this up with the ladder, but having a helper makes it a bit easier. I used it on bare wooden stairs and the Ladder Aide has a rubber surface that contacts the stairs to you won't experience any marring of the wood. I don't know if thickly carpeted stairs would affect the stability. ... show more

    • Check if your step height is compatible!
Style: For Type 1AA Ladders
The step height supported by this is from about 5 inches to almost 8 inches. Bought it for my basement stairs but turns out my steps are over 8 inches. Given that standard steps are around 7 inches, it seems silly and inflexible for the maximum supported height to be just a bit above that. Supporting 9+ inch steps would probably prevent it from supporting 5 inch steps, but how common are such short steps? My workaround was to simply stick a piece of wood under the lower leg. Assembly is not difficult but getting some of the tabs into the corresponding slots may require some force as they fit a bit too perfectly. Instructions diagrams are a bit cryptic. I ended up using the screws/nuts but in actuality, they are optional since you can use the pins instead (makes it easier to take the compact the unit for storage). I didn't know that and was wondering at the end why I had so many spare pins. I inserted the extra pins into the upper leg section JUST in case there is a failure with the single pin in the lower section. Also, the instructions and photos show lanyards for each of the pins to attach them to the unit, but my box didn't come with them. It did come with a single carabiner to attach the three pings together. ... show more

All nuts bolts and washers all over inside box. Rivets broken the thing was bent so it could be riveted in corner and broke . Doesn't fit together no matter what you do. In general unsafe. i returned the next day. Don't waste your time or money.

The Ideal Security LAP1 Ladder-Aide Pro was just what I needed. I had been trying to figure out how to paint two-story high walls/vaulted ceiling which had a staircase running under them. Too tall for a Little Giant ladder and the railing of the stairs blocked an extension ladder from working. When I finally discovered this item, I ordered it immediately and have since used it with an extension ladder to paint the walls and ceiling. It worked perfectly and was very stable. Bought the bigger model and there is plenty of room for the ladder shoes. Used with a 3 stage aluminum Werner ladder on a second story deck stairs. The device seemed rock steady, not in the least wobbly. Felt very secure using it. Instructions say to use with a ladder at a 75 degree angle. Now I need an angle finder to figure out exactly what 75 degrees is. Won't be using the Ladder Pro often but nice to know I have it when needed. ... show more

Fit was fine, no issues like what some reported here. Pins that slip through holes are a tight fit but that is to be expected I think. Lower support foot extends beyond dimensions of the platform, somewhat reducing placement options (can't put ladder aid fully out by edge of step). Almost wish I could have just rented this as after 3 placements I probably won't need again for years... ... show more

I just used this to paint the stairway walls going to the basement. It worked very well - absolutely no wobbling, no creaking and no movement. I felt extremely safe.
