    • Excellent concept, well-executed!

This is more than just an object to freeze water, this is an engineering concept. The silicone rubber (I guess?) and plastic composite are a great idea for ice trays, and I have tried them in the past, with limited success. This variation understands the limits of the material (ice can tend to stick to it), used it only in the important area to be stretched, combined it with harder plastic, and then used a spike array to poke the ice out. That's brilliant on its own, but the trays are designed with three different concepts in mind: first, an overflow guard, which every ice cube tray ever should have had, but never did. Second, the plastic overflow channels on each cell act as fill meters. Third, and this is the most important one, the slight hydrophobic nature of the plastic uses the meniscus of the water and the size of the cell to its advantage, helping prevent spilling by preventing flow from a filled cell. It seems like the size of the cells were picked to best take advantage of this property of water. Another major failing of ice cubes trays that this solves: storage. Unless you're using a fridge with an ice maker, whose water tap was removed, you probably don't have a dedicated bin for ice. This provides one, but more importantly, the bin works with the spike array to catch the ice as you push it out. The only disadvantage this design has is that the layers insulate some of the cells from the direct cold of the freezer, meaning that if you keep the trays stacked on top of the bin, it will take very long for everything in the center to freeze.     • Stackability and ease of removal

Full transparency, this is my third tray I’ve bought from PHINOX. I even bought a few more as gifts for friends and family. After trying a couple of other brands with similar style ice trays, I settled on the PHINOX ice cube tray for a few reasons. It all stacks well in the freezer while you’re freezing the ice. The lid sits securely on the trays (so whatever you’re feeding is covered), which in turn sit securely on top of the storage container bottom saving you space in the freezer. With other brands either the trays or the lid would not stay stacked when in the freezer or would easily slide off when transferring to and from the freezer from my counter. Also, it’s very easy to remove the ice from the trays once frozen (though a helpful tip is not to overfill the trays, but even if you do it’s still easier than other brands to remove the cubes). With the PHINOX brand, the trays also stay securely seated when upside down over the container for easy removal. You simply press the lid while it’s upside down and the cubes pop right out of the silicone trays. With other brands the trays would wiggle a bit while trying to press the lid down or fall in completely making the whole process very inconvenient, but I’ve never had that issue with this ice tray. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a user friendly ice cube tray with good storage. We have one for regular ice, one for green juices, and one for frozen immunity shots. Each one also came with a little scoop for easy removal of the ice in the container and you can choose to have 1-3 stackable trays. ... show more
