  • Killed my fish.
Instructions were horrible. To fill the automatic feeder, (not to much not to little) was the wording on how much to put in there. My Betta hated it because of how much water pressure it had. Kept pushing him around even after we turned it down. Had the fish in there for ONE day and he somehow got sucked up into one of the filters and died because there was no water in that spot. So thank you for the trash aquarium. ... show more

  • it works
Ease of Setup: Assembling the kit was relatively straightforward, thanks to the clear instructions provided. It took about an hour to complete setup, which included unpacking, assembling the stand, filling with water, and introducing the fish. The thoughtful packaging ensured that each component was protected and easy to access. Performance: After the initial cycling phase, my aquarium quickly became a thriving environment for my chosen fish species. The 24/7 mode light provides a natural-looking day-night cycle, which I believe helped regulate my fish's behavior and stress levels. The heater maintains a stable temperature, and the water pump ensures excellent circulation, preventing stagnation and promoting healthy growth. The auto feeder and water changer have been a game-changer in terms of convenience and efficiency. Being able to schedule feedings and perform partial water changes with minimal effort has made aquarium maintenance much more manageable. The cleaning tool set has also proven invaluable for quick and effective algae removal and tank maintenance. Value for Money: Considering the comprehensive range of features and the high-quality construction of each component, I believe the Smart Aquarium Starter Kit offers exceptional value for its price point. It provides everything needed to set up a successful aquarium, minimizing the need for additional purchases. Conclusion: In summary, the Smart Aquarium Starter Kit is an outstanding choice for anyone looking to create a thriving and low-maintenance aquarium. Its impressive array of features, ease of setup, and exceptional performance make it an excellent value for both beginners and experienced aquarists. I highly recommend this kit to anyone seeking a stress-free and enjoyable aquarium-keeping experience. ... show more

  • So Far, So Good
The assembly of this tank is minimal. You must assemble the working parts; otherwise, everything is already in place. It takes no time, and it is working well. So far, so good. I am hoping my goldfish stays alive based on me and not the tank. It is definitely a nice starter kit, and it does not take up a lot of space. The thing I like the most is that the tank has a low hum. There is not a lot of noise. The price is also reasonable. It would make a great gift. ... show more

  • Hard to operate.
Great size. The control panel is difficult to use. Hard to understand and the temperature is always way to high. I can't tell where the thermometer is located to see if it's been hindered or not. The all in one filter system is great in theory, but getting into it to clean has been proven difficult as well. ... show more

  • An excellent, well thought out tank with a sleek modern design
This is a great aquarium- IF you use it properly, and read the instructions. This is going to be a pretty long review, because I feel that this tank deserves it, and the bad reviews warrant addressing. I have a "cliffs notes" condensed version at the end for those who don't want to read it all. I put mine in my workspace/studio, on the desk. It is set up as a saltwater tank. It's still cycling at the moment, but so far so good. I built a small custom stand for it to sit on, with a nice big drawer to store all of the fishkeeping supplies in so I can find them when needed. It is super easy to set up- if you read and follow the instructions. They aren't the best, however they are more than adequate. I can see where an absolute beginner might have some issues, but it's easy enough to figure out. If you want to read the instructions prior to purchase, they are readily available on the Hygger website. Setting this aquarium up is VERY easy. You just snap a few parts together, put the heater in place, and connect the three wires going from the lid to the tank items. Put the filter media in place, and fill it with water. Hold off though- I know you're excited- but you need to let the tank cycle properly before introducing life to it. That is beyond the scope of this review, but there is plenty of information online. People mention in reviews that the tank has killed their fish by sucking it up in to the filter. They must not have followed the instructions properly, because if you assemble things correctly there in physically NO WAY that a fish could get pulled in to the filter. Look at the photos- The intake has slots in it that are about 1/8" wide. I have posted a pic, from Hygger, of the intake. The only thing that I can figure is that they didn't fully assemble the intake as per the directions. So- Now for the tank itself. It's a nice looking tank, with ultra clear glass. It looks great just about anywhere, and the integration of the filter, pump, and heater means that there is only one wire coming from it to the wall, instead of the mess of wires and air lines that are usually associated with a tank. The automation of this tank is pretty impressive, as is the interface that you use to set it up. Everything is controlled by the computer in the lid. You push a button that is related to the parameter you want to change, adjust it using the jog dial, and you're done. The light timer works quite well, and has a nice cycle feature that mimics nature, with a sunrise, daytime, and night. The color and intensity of the light changes, just as it does in real life. This is nice for the humans, as it is pleasant and relaxing. More importantly, it's great for the fish as well. Heating is controlled as well. You set a temperature, and the aquarium adjusts as needed. I find that it does a good job of holding temperatures close to what you have set. There is no setting and adjusting a tiny dial with barely readable markings on it. Set it and forget it. Filtration is great- there is plenty of water movement, and you can use the included filter media. I opted to add some ceramic "bio balls" to mine that had cycled through one of my other tanks, to provide a source of beneficial bacteria. The filter area is very flexible in terms of what you can add to it. There are comments about TOO much current in the tank. The pump has three speeds, and if everything is installed correctly, there is not excessive current whatsoever. The automatic feeder is excellent for using this aquarium in a place like your office, where you may be away for weekends or even longer. Again, if used properly, it works well. Most automatic feeders of this type are designed to work with pellets, and not flakes. Flakes WILL clog them (this is in the instructions as well). You adjust the interval of feeding to match what your fish need. The amount of food that it dispenses is regulated by a small "door" on the feeder that is adjusted to let more or less out for each rotation. You do need to take the time to get this set right so you aren't overfeeding. With some foods, especially very small pellets, even on the smallest setting you might dispense too much food- But there is an easy fix for this- You can put a small piece of tape over part of the opening to further restrict the flow of food. This, by the way, is NOT unique to this tank- but is a common thing on this type of auto feeder. Last, but certainly not least, the UV light. I run UV lights on ALL of my tanks. They are a great help for a lot of problems- and prevent a lot of issues in the first place. They eliminate many waterborne parasites and diseases, and are the most effective method I have used for dealing with algae issues. This one has a timer that can be set from one hour to always on, so you can adjust as needed. It it integrated into the filter system. The accessories that come with the tank are nice, and surprisingly high quality. It comes with just about everything you're going to need to maintain the tank, including a siphon for water changes. Read up a bit on the proper procedure for tank cleaning, as the instructions are a bit vague. You'll find more advice and information than you can handle online. This aquarium is a great value as well. If you were to piece together a similar tank, you are going to easily spend this much money, and won't have the automation... And you'll have all those ugly cords to hide. So why the bad reviews? The only thing I can figure is that they didn't read and follow the instructions properly. When assembled and set up as designed, it is a great tank! For those who don't want to read a lot, here is the rundown- -This is a nice tank, and easy to set up, IF you read and follow the instructions -A clean, sleek, modern design without a lot of cords or air lines to hide. It's all built in. -The level of automation is impressive. This is a "set it and forget it" tank, all you need to do is an occasional water change/filter cleaning and refill of the food container. -The user interface is easy to use, and very flexible. You can easily adjust all of the settings from the control panel. -A great value considering it includes just about everything that you need to get going. ... show more
