This unit was a perfect upgrade to an old controller. Was easy to install and program. If you have any mecanical skills at all, this will be a good DIY project. Saves on my water bill as well.

I live in a community where the HOA has a landscape contracted company and when I had the manual hunter water irrigation system I would find my zones and days of watering were constantly being changed by the landscapers causing my water bill to be extremely higher then expected and then I found the Hunter PRO-HC and now I finally have control over my watering schedules. This smart controller runs off a app that will follow the local weather and make adjustments if there is rain falling or predicted to fall by simply skipping the day. No more relying on the water sensor system which I found many times to be wrong and the best thing is that I can turn on my system anywhere in the world and even make changes to the schedule . This controller comes with a free app called hydrawise and I can run reports and see my water usage and compare them to what my city is billing me. The app is extremely user friendly and at the time of this review there are no monthly fees to use this app. This app also monitors the system and looks for damaged/broken sprinkler heads and will notify me immediately! Installing the new Hunter controller took me less then 45 minutes to mount and install the zones. Be sure to take pictures with your smart phone of your current water controllerwiring before disconnecting as you will need this information when installing the zones onto the new Hunter controller. I can’t say enough positive things about this controller and now that I’m saving on my water bill it’s a win win!

We live in a Californian “Mediterranean” climate, so there is a lot of variability in our watering needs throughout the year. With their Internet-connected smart watering mode, it just does the right thing. No more soggy grass, no more dry dead plants, and I’m using 30-50% less water on an annual basis.

The product works as advertised and makes irrigation simple with its wireless app. Functionally it’s great. However, the plastic box itself isn’t adequately prepared for installation. The case has 1 predrilled hole and 2 non-predrilled outline holes on the plastic bottom for an external wire conduit to slide into. One center, left, and right. In the advertised picture above you’ll see the center hole is cutout with the wires feeding through it. My unit had the far right hole precut but the center and left one was not. I needed the center one cut out. So I had to get creative and perform my own cutout of the center. Which requires additional tools and time. Furthermore, the backplane doesn’t have a predrilled hole for the external house electrical wires that need to splice and connect to the internal unit wires. So Again I had to create my own hole to feed the wires directly through the back of the unit. Unit works great, and looks good. Besides those inconveniences I’m happy with the purchase.

I haven't had this installed very long, so I can't speak to durability or longevity (although it seems to be built really well). But there is a strange functionality with the wireless that I feel could be useful for some to know. It seems that you have to choose between wireless control or manual control at the station. For instance, when I initially installed the unit, I connected it to wireless. Used the app, setup everything and was happy. But as some point I needed to adjust the settings and I didn't have my phone. So I opened the manual control to adjust at the unit. But to adjust you have to disconnect from wireless. And when you disconnect you loose all of the programs. You can then reset them up in manual (ie "offline" mode) and it will run. But when you switch back to wireless, everything is gone again. It is a really strange behavior. In the long run, I won't be adjusting often so I don't necessarily care. But if your internet cycles or it looses connection, does your system stop working? I don't know yet, but I might assume that it will. Which would kind of suck.

I called a company asking them to install. They wanted to charged me $600 including installation. The guy admitted it wouldn’t be more than 30 minutes. I thought to myself why am I paying you then about $400 for 30 minutes of labor, which is $800 an hour! I went online to see a couple of videos and voilà. Seemed easy enough. It was super easy to install. The app works great ( but I seem to not be able to upload pics to it, which I’m not sure why). I highly recommend this product. I went from old rotary to this new device. Amazing!!! Attached is what I was using. By the way, mine included a plug so I could easily plug into a nearby outlet.
