  • Fits right on the old wiring plate but it changes temp
Edit: My thermostat keeps changing the temp I have it set on. The old one did not do that. I have followed the instructions for overriding the programs and have it in Hold mode. I will set it at 75 then about an hour after I get up it's at 78! Not sure how to fix this. I had a Hunter thermostat when I moved into this house. The buttons had gotten to where I had to push VERY hard on them to work. So I looked for a replacement like it. I didn't want to go to the hassle of getting the wifi ones and having to rewire everything. This Hunter is the newer model of mine and same size. I checked the wiring on the old one compared to the back of the new one. Same, so I shut off the HVAC power and replaced the front. Works great and less than 5 minutes! ... show more

  • It worked
Mom's old one stopped working. They don't make that model anymore but this one is identical to hers and plugged right in to the existing plate. I didn't have to rewire anything.

  • Thermostat
Wasn’t sure how easy it was going to be to install. Was replacing one like it. Done in 10 mins. Does the job

  • Poor Quality Control
We ordered two Hunter 44157 for our rental properties to replace some older manual thermostats. We intentionally looked for this brand because we've owned the Hunter 44110 (no backlight) for six+ years and have had a good experience with them. The backlight in the 44157 model seemed appealing and the advertised feature set (per the user manual) was all the same as our older ones, so we felt good about giving them a try. Below is a brief description of our experience. Ease of Installation and Use The included installation/user manual is adequate for most skill levels, and for most normal (single stage) natural gas furnace installations the process is straightforward. We also preferred these over the ones in stock at the local hardware stores because the batteries are very easy to replace right on the front of the unit. Most models sold now a days require you to remove the unit from its wall plate to replace the batteries located inside of the thermostat; which is intimidating for most tenants. The Temperature HOLD Feature The printed documentation as well as the instructions on the unit itself describe the HOLD feature as a way to permanently override all programming settings, leaving the unit in "manual' operation or vacation mode. In other words, while the HOLD icon displays on the screen, the programming will not run; the temperature you set it to will be held until you manually change it. For our needs, this feature is not only desirable but required when one of our rentals is vacant as it makes it simple to override the programming. Our older 44110 units work this way and they have been reliable so far. Not so for these 44157 model. The HOLD feature on these is erratic and cannot be trusted. As you read the different reviews and their comments for this on Amazon, you'll find people having totally opposing opinions and experiences with it even after carefully following the printed instructions. The Night-Light Feature We installed both of them according to the product's instructions and proceeded to setup a custom programming for the week/weekend days. The backlight comes on when any of the buttons is pressed and goes off on its own after a few seconds. Sadly, the backlight in one of them failed within the first few minutes of use. It started working fine but then it flickered a couple of times and just would not light up anymore. The other one was installed in a unit that was vacant at the time, so we setup a very specific programming for it. The backlight on this second unit would light up, but it also had a little flicker issue, and while the light was was on, you could hear a faint beep sound from inside the unit. The Programming After about four days, we stopped at the vacant unit and inspected the programming only to find that it had very different set of times and temperatures from what we had originally set it to. Re-programmed it the way we needed it, and then ran the furnace a couple of cycles while we did some cleaning. It turns out the thermostat unit was sort of resetting itself to random temperatures ranging from 48F to 69F, all within a couple of hours time. It seems the manufacturer has lowered their quality control standards and so their products are no longer as solid as they used to be. We returned both units and replaced them with a different brand. ... show more

  • Will not keep its programming !
It will change its own programming as it pleases. I have reprogrammed it the last 6 days in a row. Had to change it out with one from Menards. Complete waste of money ! The first one I bought came from Menards and it worked flawlessly for over 10 years. When that one was finally done I ordered this one off Amazon and it is complete garbage. ... show more

  • Works great at replacing my old Dometic analog thermostat on our RV.
I tested a few different digital thermostats on our RV to try and replace an old Dometic analog thermostat. Nothing was working wiring it up the usual way. It wasn't until I got some helpful advise on an RV forum that stated a lot of the Dometic units use the ground wire to power the AC and heater. So I wired it up as recommended with the ground wire as the power wire (normal +7.5v red wire not used), white to heater, yellow to AC, and then paired both the low and high fan wires to the G terminal on the thermostat (apparently the Dometic AC required both fan wires to be grounded for the fan to function correctly). One I wired it this way, everything worked just fine. Only wish I would have known about this on the first thermostat I purchased. You can get the Low and High fan functions to work by adding in a switch. At some point I might do that, but it wasn't a big deal to me right now. Two things I like about this thermostat. One, I like that it has a backlit display. The second thing I like is that the batteries are easily accessible by flipping up the panel. The is made nicer for my purpose of having it in an RV. The walls in RV's are pretty flimsy, and I know it wouldn't take much for the screws to pull right out of the wall. So it is nice to be able to flip open the panel rather than having to use some force to separate the face from the backing plate to get to the batteries on some of the other models out there. ... show more

  • This is a true 2 wire system thermostat.
I have a heat only 1964 Crown circulating hot water system. It only requires an on or off thermostat. Used to use old mercury switch. Nothing fancy. 2 wires. It seems that the new systems have taken over with multiple wiring HVAC systems. This Hunter thermostat was the only one I could find that has dry contacts and works great. Thank you! ... show more
