  • Heavy duty
Style: 30 Amp Size: 30 Amp
We've used this on 2 trips so far and it has worked well. The instructions were easy to follow for setup and we had no problems getting it running. The app worked very well. I was able to monitor usage throughout our stays. Luckily we didn't have any electrical problems, but I have confidence that the unit would have protected our trailer. ... show more

  • Super easy to use, excellent wire fault detection, perfect protection, awesome power monitoring.
Style: 30 Amp Size: 30 Amp
Likes: 1. This 30 Amp wire fault detector / power analyzer / RV electrical protector is ridiculously easy to use. Read the instructions, take it out of the box. Turn off the power on the shore station. Plug your rig into the Watchdog, plug the Watchdog into the shore station power outlet, and turn on the shore station power. If the wiring and the power are good, the Watchdog turns white and an internal breaker will close and begin supplying power to your rig. If the power or wiring is bad, the Watchdog turns red and won't supply damaging power to your camper. This i exactly what you need and want. 2. Pair the Watchdog's Bluetooth with your smartphone and discover what your rig's drawing in Watts. Turn everything off in your camper and watch the power consumed drop. With everything off, and power still being consumed, you're viewing your battery charger consuming power, topping off your battery. Record how many Watts are being consumed and start turning on lights, accessories, the refrigerator, even the air conditioner, and watch how much power each of them draws. This one app gives you all the information an expensive power analysis would cost from an RV repair shop. And the information it provides can give you the right knowledge to make decisions about replacing incandescent bulbs with LED's, how much power your electric water heater consumes, and how much power your air conditioner draws. It can help you decide what to turn on and what to leave off so your batteries last longer. You can even determine if you really need a second, or a bigger, generator to run everything you might want. The power consumed app revealed my air conditioner doesn't take nearly as many Watts to start and to run as I feared. That knowledge helped me choose to not spend an additional $1200 on a Companion generator, and I can easily get the job done with a MicroAir Easy Start 364 and the connector kit for less than a third of the cost of a second generator. 3. It even comes with a metal locking plate to help keep a thief from easily walking off with your power protection. Add on your favorite lock and lock the Watchdog to the shore station or to your RV. Dislikes: None. Sorry, but I can't find anything bad to say about it. I've used it for several weeks at home and out at the campground, and it's had no problems--even in the rain. Wait--there's one thing that might be nice to have included with this unit--a rainproof/waterproof connection cover so your 30A cables can't get water in them. That's something to add on separately, which could have come with the Watchdog. But those waterproof coupling boxes are available on Amazon, so it's not like one has to do without that additional peace of mind. I'm 100% happy with this Watchdog. I know it'll protect my RV from faulty shore station wiring, power spikes, and power sags. And that'll keep my vacation trouble free. That's worth a LOT more than I paid for the Watchdog, which was less expensive than other units. ... show more

  • Works great

I like that it can be locked to the power pedestal. We had no issues with bad power to our RV. I wish the unit was a little smaller.

  • Does its job—but with annoying quirks.
Style: 30 Amp Size: 30 Amp
I feel fully protected when using the Power Watchdog PWD30EPO. It has a nice feature set and a reliable app. That said, I get annoyed whenever I have to use it. It's huge. Maybe it needs to be. But it doesn't need to have the long pigtail underneath it. I'm not sure why Hughes couldn't just mount the female receptacle on the box itself to make it shorter and easier to transport. With the female receptacle so close to the ground, it is vulnerable to rain and snow. Beyond size, there is the issue of the giant illuminated bulldog on the front of the housing. It unnecessarily illuminates my campsite and those nearby. Aside from the light pollution, it serves as a giant "steal me" beacon. Hughes is aware of the issue because they sell an accessory to dim the light. Here's an idea, Hughes: Just eliminate the light, or allow users to turn it off using the app. If I need light at my campsite, my RV has lights built in. I also carry a flashlight. The bottom line is that I have complete confidence in the protection the Power Watchdog offers to my RV, and I like its feature set. But if I had to do it over again, I would look a little more closely at the competition because there are several quality alternatives that don't have these same quirks. ... show more

  • Protection for our camper
Style: 30 Amp Size: 30 Amp
It's a little larger and heavier than you might expect, but offers a peace of mind for your camper electric system. We've been using it camping at 3 different campgrounds so far. Didn't have any problems, but did have it shut down power briefly twice. Once, appears to be a surge from some sort of power outage near campground. The other one was at a different campground - apparently a surge of some sort. Just had to reset from app then. Like having the protection, and ability to see what's going on. It has a metal locking ring, and we got a cable lock to use at campgrounds. ... show more

  • What a gem!!
Style: 30 Amp Size: 30 Amp
We’re new to RVing in our 30amp TT. This has saved us a blown fuse about 5 times in our first 3 months as we navigate what appliances can be run at the same time. The microwave is usually the culprit but this surge protector safely shuts it down and provides an instant notification to my phone and option to safely to restart everything. Easy to connect but a little more difficult to set up the app. Totally worth the price! ... show more
