I have played 5 different albums with the Hudson Hi-Fi Record Weight. Is there a true difference in sound? Yes, but to my untrained ears, it is a 1 on a scale of 5. Which is something. I 'feel' like the sound has mellowed and now leans towards the bass. I have repeatedly played tracks with and without the weight. I'm concerned that the weight is slowing down the turntable - not proveable by me just looking and listening. I also feel that the hole is not 100% in the middle - there seems to be a wobble as it turns. This is my first day playing around. My mind could be playing tricks on me. Hopefully, someday I will come back and update this review. I'm not unhappy with my purchase. ... show more

I have tons of original vinyls from the 1960s and some have a tiny wobble. This device add just enough weight to take some of it out and make the needle have a more smooth constant contact and enjoyable sound.

I would recommend this for those of us who are occasionally forced to play warped records. It's not going to fix them, and it's not going to make the ripple inaudible. It doesn't work audio miracles. However, it's heavy enough to flatten out the edges a little better than I expected, and when used on a properly flat LP, yes, I believe I sense some improved low end. YMMV. Here's my caveat: this beast is HEAVY. I only use it with a Technics 1100A, which is a direct drive table with a very torquey motor and variable speed control. I wouldn't suggest using anything this heavy on a belt drive table or a direct drive without a very powerful motor and speed control. It will be enough to challenge a lower powered direct drive and it might just kill a skimpy belt drive deck. That said, it's spared me from having to give up on digitizing at least the inner tracks of at least three severely warped LPs. If you question whether your turntable can handle this kind of weight, you should probably consider posting a question about your specific model on one of the audiophile sites. That's where I found the info on this particular weight, and it prompted me to pick up several stabilizers of different weights and clamp types. I transfer roughly 10 LPs/week across 4 turntables fitted for different grades of records. ... show more

Actual weight of the unit, finish, and leather pad on the bottom are all great. Easy to install, remove, and no issues with player speed or spin-up when in use (sl1200 deck) The center hole is slightly larger than it needs to be. Unsure why LP's can have a hole that fits perfect and this doesn't - ? It's not off by much, and yes you can likely spend a lot more for precision machining. 4/5 is still fair for the price. ... show more
