Caring for your canvas apron requires regular cleaning and proper maintenance. Regular cleaning prevents dirt build-up and premature wear. Maintenance means rewaxing or refinishing your apron. The best way to maintain your apron is to avoid machine washing and using hot water and conventional soaps and detergents that will hasten the breakdown of the infused wax. No dry cleaning and no aggressive scrubbing. Simply brush and wipe off the dirt to keep your canvas apron clean. For spot cleaning, wet a sponge with cold water and gently wipe the dirt off. For deep cleaning, soak the apron in cold water and castile soap and gently massage spots of dirt. Rinse with lukewarm water. Hang and air dry in a warm space. Waxed cotton garments need refinishing when they become uneven, shiny, or dry, or when moisture no longer beads. To prolong the life of your tool apron, ensure that it is clean and dry. Apply fabric wax with soft, lint-free cotton in circular motions. Use a little more wax on seams and worn areas. Heat the fabric and wax by laying it out under the sun or using a hairdryer. Wipe off excess wax and hang the garment to dry. The next day, wipe off excess oil. Thoroughly rinse out soap after washing and use cold water for cleaning. Apply more wax on areas that appear shiny or dry. If you notice a waxy odor after waxing, hang your canvas apron in a well-ventilated area for a few days. Remove the odor by placing your apron in a freezer overnight.

I bought six aprons! In my search for the perfect workshop apron, I came across six that were all well-reviewed and prime-ready, so I decided to do a shoot-out. Bottom line: The best shop apron is the Hudson Woodworking Edition. The best leather apron is the QeeLink. I would be happy with any of them - except the Angry Beaver. Full breakdown: Flipzon Work Apron https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q19DT8R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Pros: Most Affordable, light and comfortable, quality leather accents Cons: Cheap straps, odd pockets, color (subjective) Summary: The Flipzon Work Apron is an attractive, light, and comfortable piece that I could see used in a variety of working environments. For the price, it is very impressive. I would say that the main shortfall is the pocket situation: the leather chest straps, while nice in appearance, are only good if your utensils have clips. None of my construction pencils do, so I wouldn’t trust them to stay. Further, while the main pocket is quite accommodating, the side pockets are too narrow for almost any of my hand-tools. I can’t think of good use for them other than straw storage. Finally, the straps are nylon, lack shoulder pads, buckles, or a connecting piece for the cross-back straps.  Cons: cheap straps Summary: This is the most comfortable apron that I tried on, hands down. It feels light, but protective, has a pleasant leather smell despite what some reviewers mentioned, and has an excellent pocket layout. The orange may be a bit much for some, and it is probably a touch too long for my 5’7” frame, but I like this one a lot. If it had better quality straps with shoulder pads or a hammer loop, this one would be the best. Overall: If you want leather over canvas, this here is the one for you. If comfort is most important, it still is. Cons: price, stiff Summary: Look, this one is just the best. It has a great color, excellent quality canvas and straps, a terrific assortment of deep and covered pockets, hammer loops, metal grommets, etc. The only complaint I have is that among such stiff competition, this is the stiffest. It really isn’t all that comfortable at first, but after I put a few miles on it, it started to ease-up. I was most torn between this one and the QeeLink, just because I love the feel of nice leather, especially on that particular apron. But at the end of the day, the Hudson is just pure quality and I know it will last me a long time. So for me, this one’s the keeper. A useful apron, comfortable fit

Well, I've worn this three days in the shop and I'm perfectly happy with it. I got it primarily to prevent glue from getting on my clothes and to keep wood chips and sawdust from filling up my pockets. I haven't glued this week, but I'm sure this will do that job; and it has kept me from pocketing sawdust all day. It was easy to adjust to my size (5'10", 160 lbs.) and it is quite comfortable to wear for hours at the stretch. So far I've carried only a ruler and pencils but there's ample space for more--and I'm sure I'll use it. ... show more

I have not had time to load this up and work it...will add to this review when that happens. But here’s my initial take. I think Hudson has hit the sweet spot in their choice of the waxed canvas cloth. It seems rugged without being too heavy; all seams, stitching and riveted areas are well executed. Fabric is mildly stiff but that is to be expected and I’m sure it will wear in easily and well. The kangaroo pockets are deep and I have no issue inserting my very large hands. Layout of the other pockets seems adequate i.e. not too many to tempt me to overload the apron. Once the straps are adjusted, it fits my 6’3”, 215 pound frame like a well tailored suit. The padded straps feel nice, the buckle straps hit my waist at just the right height and the apron bottom stops right above my knees. Perfect! Some reviews have said it’s too heavy. I’ve been wearing it around the house just to get a feel for it while moving about and don’t even know it’s there. So that one’s a mystery. Equally mysterious are all the comments about how difficult it is to don. Really? Just hold it like my photo shows, duck your head through the straps and voilà...buckle the buckle. Easy. Useful, manly apron for smoking and grilling

I really wanted a nice, durable apron for when I smoke meat, and was looking at some of the leather options from Traeger and Hedley & Bennett, but I couldn't justify spending over $100 on something that may end up ruined from the fat or juices from meat, and really only had one or two pockets. I took my search to Amazon, and boy am I glad I did! This apron is the real deal. It's a heavy canvas that has been waxed, which makes it a little stiff to begin with, but it softens up nicely. The model that I got has shoulder straps that cross over in the back and have a buckle clip in the back, and I love it. It distributes the weight very nicely, and you don't feel like you're wearing a millstone around your neck. There are plenty of pockets for just about anything you could need. Because this is mainly a smoking/grilling apron for me, I keep my ThermoWorks ThermoPop thermometer in one of the pen holder pockets up top, alongside by phone, which fits perfectly in one of the top pockets. I haven't filled up the bottom joey pockets, yet, but I'm sure I'll find a reason to! I love that there are two hammer loops on the side, as they hold my tongs perfectly. As far as fit goes, I'm just over 5'9" with a fairly thin build, and wear this fairly high. The top hits just below my collarbones and the bottom hits just above my knees. The sides wrap around to cover a little more than half my body, so plenty of coverage. Bottom line - if you're looking for a durable, manly and downright useful apron, look no further. Very well made and comfortable to wear

I am very pleased with this apron. While the fabric is thick and durable, it isn't overly heavy. It was a little stiff when I first started wearing it, but it loosened up quickly and now it is very comfortable. All pockets (except the pen/pencil pocket) are double stitched with heavy thread and riveted with quality brass rivets. The hammer/tape measure loops are heavy duty webbing that is double stitched and riveted on. The two lap pockets have loose flaps over them which help to reduce the amount of chips and dust they collect. Nice touch! All the straps are heavy duty webbing and contact the apron through heavy brass grommets. The shoulder straps have broad pads, so they don't cut into you when you have a bunch of tools in your apron. My only complaint isn't really a complaint, but more of a comment. I am a stout guy, so the strap is too short to buckle in the back. I easily fixed this with a short length of webbing and an extra buckle set. The webbing and buckle set are black, which don't match the apron - not a huge deal to me, but if I was the one making/selling this apron, I would sell this extension, made with the same buckles and webbing used in the apron, as an optional accessory. There are plenty of people larger than 2X that would buy this apron if it fit and the extension would be a little extra income. Just saying. ... show more

Almost exactly what this woodworker needed

I shopped around for a while before finally deciding on this apron, not wanting to wind up with something cheap that I'd have to replace within a year. After using it for a week or so, I am convinced I made the right choice. The quality of the waxed cotton duck is outstanding--thick and very durable. All the seams are strong, and I especially like the shoulder strap fitting which makes it very comfortable to wear. The flaps over the pockets (meant to keep sawdust out) are a nice touch, though they sometimes get in the way when you go to reach into them for whatever you've put there--but that's not a big deal to me. My choice came down to this apron or another one that only had one pencil pocket and included snaps that allow you to fold the bottom third under, making the apron shorter if needed. I do wish this apron had that feature, but again, no big deal. The cell phone pocket on the chest is another nice touch, though it's too shallow for my phone (LG L7) to do much good, especially without a way to secure it in the pocket, but I probably wouldn't keep my phone with me in the shop anyway. Over all, a very nice apron--and at a very fair price for the quality you get. ... show more

Much more comfortable than my old apron, which always pulled up on the back of my shirt. Once adjusted right, this one doesn't pull at all. The canvas is heavy and durable. It feels very tough and protective. The pockets are awesome, I love the covered lower pockets to keep sawdust from accumulating. And the hoodie pocket is huge and super handy! But my favorite hidden feature that they don't advertise is the loop sewn into the inside at the top to hang it up! I haven't seen any aprons with this under-appreciated feature! Best grilling/kitchen apron ever

I do a bunch of cooking and pretty intensive kitchen projects. 12 hour cooks, multi-stage BBQs, curing meats, making lox, and breaking down large quantities of meat. This apron is great for a few reasons: -I use the pockets MUCH more than I thought I would. -It's mostly waterproof/meat juice proof (This is big) -Its neck straps are really excellent. They don't get uncomfortable at all and distribute the weight of the apron across the entire back. -it has significant coverage. I can wear this with lots of clothes and really not have to worry... I know other aprons block food too (kinda the point) but this is a longer overall fit and really helps keep pants clean too. -The tool loop is the BEST rag holder ever created. Now you get to have a rag attached to you all the time for drying knives, wiping hands, etc. -Build quality is really excellent. Rivets are strong, stitching seems well done and uses poly thread, and nothing has come apart after about 50 hours of wear so far. Perhaps the only con I can think of is that it can be a little hot in the summer..... but you could guess that just by looking at it. Solid recommendation from me and if you are looking for a sturdy, well built apron you can use in the workshop or in the kitchen... Consider picking this one up. ... show more
