Son in law likes this. He works outside in MN all day so he appreciates the heat. It is a bit awkward having the 20v battery in the pocket, and a little heavier shell on this would be nice. Seems like it could tear easily.

It’s great for about 5 minutes, then it shuts off. I’ve tried several different batteries, but still just shuts off randomly. Update: It's been almost one year, and I've tried and tried with this jacket, I even received a replacement from DeWalt, however the same issue exists - it just shuts off. It does not matter which battery I use, and trust me, by now I've tried them all, it does the same thing and shuts off after a while. There is no indication when it turns off, but you will notice as you start to get cold. It's a shame that this seems to be how it functions. I can understand overheating protection, but if it's on low, it should just stay on until the battery dies. This is not the case with this jacket and I cannot recommend this at all for that reason. ... show more

So this basically fails at what it's trying to do. I kind of like it as a hoodie, even with the stiff heating elements. But it's not good at what it's advertised for. I wore this on several prewiring jobs where there's no heat. I tried it in temps ranging 20-40 degrees. I wore this and one layer underneath. I tried it with a 2ah battery (whatever the starter kits come with - 1.3ah?) and a 5ah battery. I turned the heat to high and waited...and waited...and was disappointed. Yeah I guess it got a tiny bit warm, but it was hardly anything. I could see it making a difference if the weather were, say, 5 degrees cooler than I would normally enjoy, but that's just not good enough. I was expecting it to act like an electric blanket. Every one of those I've tried has gotten way too hot for me even on the lowest setting. Granted, those don't need to raise the heat as much as this does, but it doesn't do much at all. This was a real let down. But like I said, I still like it as a hoodie...just not on job sites. The front pockets on this thing SHOULD be zippered, but they're not. As a result, every time I do any work over my head that results in debris of any kind, they end up right in the pockets. And the interior of these pockets love to hold onto wood particles for dear life. This hoodie has been through the wash twice since my last job and I still found several bits of wood in the pockets. The pros of this jacket are many. It's comfortable, warm, and looks good. However the glaring cons quickly mask the good things. The jacket is powered by a dewalt battery and adapter (which is good & bad). The good thing is that there's always a charged battery ready to go. The bad thing is that the batteries cause wear and damage to the pockets. I've had this jacket for just a few months, and there's already a hole worn in the pocket (see the picture). I'm keeping the jacket, but I'm not happy with non-durability. ... show more
