    • Slumbering Beast with so much to offer
First thing's first: the RTX 4050 Mobile. This machine does have a 75W limit on the graphics card, but that is augmented by Dynamic Boost in the Nvidia software. This means that you're getting around 90-100W effective on the GPU. Why does that matter? I looked up the testing on the RTX 4050, 4060, and 4070 mobile cards. The tests show that even though the 4060 and 4070 cards are unlocked for higher speeds, the performance increases top out equally at around 100W no matter which card you're using. That's a big issue, but more so for owners of the RTX 4060 and 4070 mobile cards, since they are being "middled out" in a really shady way by Nvidia. That means the 4050 is a great deal, even if it's for a bad reason. That said, this laptop is a sleeping giant. It runs so fast. I have it hooked up to a 34 inch ultrawide in 3440x1440 through HDMI, and I can run games like Resident Evil 2, No Man's Sky, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and Victoria 3 on Ultra settings with DLSS/Ray Tracing (on the games that utilize it) without an issue. The 1080p screen on the laptop is no joke either. The clarity is pristine, and at 144hz it's just luxurious. I opted for the 16GB model of this laptop because 8GB is a different, worse kind of ridiculous. Having used the laptop for two weeks now, I can tell you that the 16GB version is more than enough, especially using the built in optimization features through AMD. The unit itself runs quite cool and is a sleek form factor that weighs hardly anything. I'd say one weak point is the flimsy feeling screen. So be careful when opening and closing it because there's enough give to the screen portion that you could probably cause some damage if you open it too quickly from one side (just open slowly from the middle). The only other knock I could give is battery life, but you'll need to play with the laptop plugged in anyway. If you're going to be working away from a wall outlet, don't expect a long battery life if you're running anything on the GPU. But yes, if you're on a budget, grab this now.
