  • Basically I love it, with a few little foibles
SUMMARY: After some initial avoidable Wi-Fi set up problems (that could have been easily prevented with better Quick Start documentation), I have enjoyed using my Windows 11 x360 very much. Of the 4 I've had, I'd like to say it's my favorite, but there's ONE missing feature (right side CTRL key) that prevents it from taking that prize. More on that in DISLIKES. LIKES - MOST of my experience of using this PC, including its being my first Windows 11 machine, have been trouble free and enjoyable, and that includes the fingerprint scanner for logging in (wish my work PC had that). It's quick, the touch screen works well, Windows 11 has presented me with no problems and the keyboard has a very agreeable feel to it (though I do wish they'd switch to dark keys with bright letters, as my home office lighting set up works much better with those (as proven on my work Dell laptop). As this is a personal PC, I only occasionally have to use it for work, but that has also been a reasonably trouble free experience once I got things set up with my work MS account apps. - equipped with 2 x USB 3.1, 1 x USB 3.2 Type-C, 1 x HDMI, 1 x Combination Audio Jack, 1 x Media Card Reader; Wireless-AX Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth Combo, I don't lack for ports in MOST situations on this unit, but I do advise you to pick up some port adapters (USB3 > USB-C and USB-C to USB3) as the current state of affairs, where some of our devices will require whichever port type we don't happen to have free at the moment, suggests the need to be able to convert port types will come in handy. I bought several, some simple plug-ins and some with short extender cables to Provide room for wider plug-in devices, and I haven't regretted it. A world with two or more different USB connectors seems to be something we can't leave behind. Adapters just make life easier. NOTE - SD Card Reader - I used to use the SD card readers on my PC's a lot, popping cards in and out when doing uploads from cameras or swapping data between computers, but I found that previous iterations of these readers were very fragile, so now I just drop a card in the slot and leave it there for storage of certain kinds of files I want to keep separate. So far, this reader has held up fine, but I'm not in and out of it very often, just leaving one card in place for a long time. - not all of my previous HP x360's have had suitably bright screens, but this one does. NEVER an issue, though I do use it indoors all the time, just in case you might need to test it for outdoor suitability. - I'm NOT an audiophile, but it does bug me when a laptop comes with crappy sound ... this one doesn't. I've never had any complaints while listening to music or movies, but if you ARE an audiophile, read someone's review who covers that in more detail. - Won't always work if your fingertip is a) a little dirty, b) a little wet, or c) slightly out of position or if the pc itself gets too cold, but I'd say 95+% of the time it works great. Sure beats passwords and PINs. LOVE it! - when I'm at my home office desk, I plug a USB-C cable into that port and extend my screen to a 2nd wide screen that sits behind my laptop. This has worked really well with only two warnings: A) not too surprisingly, if you unplug the USB cable from your laptop (disconnect the 2nd screen) while both the PC and 2nd screen are powered up, while it didn't cause any damage, it does seem to confuse Windows and re-connecting the 2nd screen required shutting everything down, reconnecting and then re-starting ... twice. Best practice would always be to power down both PC and screen and then disconnect. This is just a warning that if you don't, things can get flakey. B) Is it plugged in? Hear me out. :) Fans of the IT Crowd know that if you've already tried turning it off and back on again and it still doesn't work, make sure it's plugged in. NOT always as obvious as it seems, especially if you have cats. I once had about an hour long problem getting 2nd screen extension to work. The 2nd screen was powered on, the PC was powered on, the PC was attached to the 2nd screen via a cable from the docking station, which was attached to both PC and screen. Multiple restarts. STILL nothing. Problem? The docking station (with ZERO UX features, thanks DELL) was no longer getting power from the power strip ... seems one of my cats had stepped on the power strip on/off switch, killing the docking station, and thus no connection from the 2nd screen to the laptop. (insert eye roll here). - This was my first HP with USB-C ports, so I was a little surprised to find I could recharge or maintain charge on my battery, even with the 2nd screen attached and live, just from the USB-C power feed. I'm not recommending we always get power from USB-C, but it's nice to know on this unit it works well. Never any issues in 8 months. DISLIKES : Someone at HP decided that when they gave us the fingerprint scanner, it would cost us the 2nd CTRL key on the right side. Well, as someone who uses that key about a gazillion times a day, I REALLY don't like that decision. Thankfully, my use of the right side CTRL is mostly in work apps, and my work Dell has 2 CTRL keys, but there are times when I would use it for my personal app use, and I dearly miss that key not being there. I'm not left handed, so left side CTRL+ key combinations always feel awkward. Poor choice of placement, but not a deal breaker. - My work team was declared fully remote this year, and so I'm working at home about 99 days out of 100, which means working in my bedroom, living room, dining room, or one of our 2 covered decks. Lighting in these places is very different (dimmer) than my 1.21 gigawatt overhead-lit commercial office across town. Even with the keyboard backlight turned on, it's often hard for me to read the keys clearly. I'm a touch-typist, so that's not a HUGE deal if I'm keying in text, but in other situations I find I frequently need to re-angle my head or lean forward to see which key to target. Solution? I took one of those 2-head clip-on reading lights (each light is on a flexible neck - https://a.co/d/bceKj1Q ) and clamped it to a large pencil mug behind my laptop screen, with the two light heads peaking over the top of the screen and shining down on the keyboard. Now I can leave the back-light off and see the keys clearly. Having the ability to compare this key-color/backlight combination to my Dell (with dark keys and backlight) I'd have to say dark keys are the hands down winner, allowing the backlight to provide contrast at levels light-against-silver simply can't create. Time to change, HP. Silver painted keys may look cool, but they don't work (or feel) as good as dark, rubbery surfaced keys. Oh, and judging by my previous 3 HP x360's, that silver paint wears off over time and the letters begin to disappear on the keys I used most often ("A" especially). ... show more

My expectations were met and even more. There was one issue where the box did not contain the pen. Got in touch with the seller who promptly refunded me for the missing pen. Overjoyed!

  • System information and shortened warranty
I had a hard time figuring out the exact model number and serial number, which are needed for registration. Normally there should be a sticker on the outside of the laptop case but I didn't see one. Since the seller customized this computer with more memory and disk, they open the box, upgrade the hardware, and put an extra sticker on the outside of the box. I installed HP System Information. It doesn’t display any information. I then installed HP Support Framework. This now allows for the HP support web site to display the system information, the ability to download and install updated drivers, and the HP virtual assistant to run. This does provide enough information for me to register the product. Unfortunately when I checked the warranty on the serial number, I found that the start date for the warranty was August 19, 2021, even though I bought this July 17, 2022. So, I only get 2 months of a 12 month warranty. ... show more

  • Real solid computer for the price
Capacity: 16GB RAM | 1TB SSD
My wife has been teaching from home and needed a better computer. We ended up ordering this one, and it was a great value. Fast, lots of memory, able to handle her various WebEx's and other programs she needs for her work. Definitely a solid home or work computer.

This HP replaced a 4-5 year old Japanese brand, and is about half the weight. Very easy to set up, runs well, and is perfect for this senior citizen to do games and research. Extremely pleased.

The laptop is small and easy to carry. Downside is thete is no number pad on the side but what can you expect for a small laptop. Other than that the laptop is very convenient for me to carry around.
