  • Very fast printing and scanning. Very incredibly flimsy plastic
Very fast black-and-white printing and scanning. The paper output tray has a little plastic tab that broke before I even got to use the printer. The paper trays are awkward. The main bottom paper tray is a weird shape and looks like it's not made for this printer model. The lid for this tray is also a strange shape and is difficult to place correctly. The manual feed is hidden, and is hard to find and use. Not much thought went into the tray ergonomics. I would have expected better ergonomics all around. You can't scan from the printer. You have to place your document on the glass or on the auto-document feeder, walk to your computer, and scan it from there. This is in contrast to the Epson Artisan printers which let you start scanning directly from the scanner. Some weird bug happens if you don't have a fax number and accidentally send a fax The LCD display will announce "Waiting for redial" or something along those lines forever, even if you had already cancelled and deleted all fax jobs. For the price you won't find a fast auto-feed scanner and super fast auto duplexing printer like this. ... show more

  • HP makes quality stuff
This is an awesome printer. I bought it as an addition to my home office as I really needed a scanner and copier. I haven't used the fax feature very much, but when I have it has worked beautifully. The print quality is good and the speed of printing is very fast. The copier and scanner are good, too. I had a bit of trouble installing the software from the disc included so I called tech support. We determined that the CD was probably damaged so the support specialist remoted into my computer and installed it from her end off the website. They were very helpful which is usually an exception rather then the rule for "help" desk. One thing I have learned is that it is advisable to check the HP website occasionally for firmware and driver updates. My computer ran an update for some software - I can't remember the specifics - and my printer went haywire. After trying just about everything under the sun, I checked my config reports and found that my firmware was out of date and that an update was available. Once downloaded and installed on the printer, it worked fine again and has ever since. Also, if you upgrade from Windows 7 or 8, you will probably have to reinstall the scan software as you will need new drivers. It is all good now after wading through the technicalities. ... show more

  • SURPRISING GOOD
I have both HP's and Cannons in my office, all color, and frankly I just got tired of spending thousands of dollars annually per machine on color when most of what I print should only be black and white anyways. Since my staff didn't seem to care about our costs no matter what I requested I decided to change the game. We bought the M1536dnf and I was very pleasantly surprised. The dark black print is crisp and sharp and even better than our HP 2840 and far better than the never dark or sharp Cannon MF 8350 (they talk about "true black" but all we got was genuine "grey"). They (we have bought another one of these as a HP 1606) work perfectly over the network in our Windows 7 and Win Server 2008 environment (the 2840 choked on the software upgrades and lost full functionality). The first print is fast and the machine is very quick. It is far more machine than I expected for the price. I LOVE buying one single cartridge now for two production machines and we will likely add another prnter of the same type at the end of the year. The color cartridge savings have paid for both machines and their toner supplies within 60 days. The output is very professional and now the staff are using inexpensive pre printed color letterhead instead of shortcutting by printing letterhead on the fly (which never looks as good in any event). If we have a real color project which is not that often we take it to Kinko's or similar and get much sharper and more professional output than we ever had internally and it only runs $15 to $25 for a big presentation. The only con we have is that for some reason the fax unit prints a confirmation sheet on incoming faxes which is, frankly, dumb. Either the fax is here, or, it isn't. On outgoing faxes we do want a confirmation page as we send contract documents via the system. You only get to select confirmation "on" or "off" and that's the way they built it. I would like a large paper tray, but, it only takes seconds to refill it. Overall, a lot of printer for the price and working well in contant use after five months. ... show more

  • Overall, very good, but . . . . .
This is kind of a mixed revue. First the good: 1. The printer (fulfilled by pcrush-outlet) arrived 3 days earlier than Amazon’s estimated date. Caught me by surprise. 2. The printer itself is really fast even in duplex mode. Although I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks it seems to be everything I had hoped it to be. 3. The HP folks responded quickly to my questions regarding the operation of the printer, even although they never solved the problem of scanning on a Mac. Now for the negatives: 1. There is no user manual included nor is there a warranty card inclosed. You will have to go to the HP website and search for the manual. You will also have to register your printer online. 2. There were several bags of parts in the box. None of them were identified - you have to guess what they are for and where they’re supposed to be installed. Could you guess what a cylindrical magnet was for or where to install it? 3. As I mentioned in Nbr 3 above, HP tried to be helpful, but I was never able to get the printer to scan on my Wi-Fi. The only solution was to plug the USB cable from the printer directly into my computer. Then it worked fine. It really isn’t a game changer since you would probably have to be present to load in whatever you were scanning. Bottom Line: Would I buy it again? Probably. HP is renowned for the quality of their printers. My last one lasted for 23 years without ever being serviced. Hopefully this new one will live up to that standard of quality. ... show more
