    • Most frustrating printer setup I've ever had

It's an HP, so I'm going to give it 4 stars. I've been working with computers since 1992 and professionally since 2002. I've worked as an IT/Network consultant for small to medium businesses and government for over 10 years. I've setup and configured countless personal, SOHO, and enterprise printers. I learned over the years that HP is the go to brand and it's the only printer brand I will buy. Our previous printer started having problems with pickup rollers so I ordered this one as a replacement. It took me an hour to get it working on my home wireless network. Nothing I tried would get the HP Smart software (is it really smart?) on my Android to configure the printer on my wifi. At first, I couldn't even get it to find the printer. Finally it found it but then the printer would cycle while it said configuring network and would fail. Attempt after attempt, same result. So I moved to a PC and it found the printer right away, but then did the same thing. I power cycled, I held the info button and pressed the wireless and cancel buttons at the same time. Nothing would change the end result. I was ready to box it back up. The software wizard would eventually ask questions and still, couldn't get it to configure. I grabbed a long ethernet cable from the garage and ran it to my home switch in the utility closet (luckily it was about 15 ft away). Got it set up on the PC, had to recover my HP login, and went through too many screens to get up and running. I then browsed to the IP to see if I could manually configure the wifi. It prompted for a user and password... Turns out, if you open the printer, there's a username and pin on a sticker. I configured the wifi and unplugged the ethernet cable, but then my computer couldn't print. I hoped it was just a sync issue between the hp print service and the fact that the IP address changed. I opened the software, hit troubleshoot, it told me nothing was wrong. I hit print test page and it worked. In my previous life I worked in network administration, and I switched to software development 10 years ago. Today I manage a software development team and I can't image how such a poor user experience could make it through QA. Come on HP!!! I'm tempted to sign up for your toner service to try it out, but I no longer have the energy to deal with another screen in your software. ######### Update ######## This printer will not remain connected to the network. We're returning it. B when it did work, it was like any other HP printer. Unfortunately it would disconnect daily, multiple times. ... show more

This review covers the original installation and test usage of all functions. I will update if any problems show up in the future. I have never had a printer that set up as smoothly and quickly as this one. How easy was it?..... The box arrived at 11:00 am and by 1:00 pm the printer was unpacked, physically set up, and connected to the wireless network, 2 PCs, 1 Chromebook, 1 iPad, and 2 iPhones. In addition, all of the functions were tested using each of the connected devices where applicable. All you really need to do is to download the HP software as indicated in the setup guide and follow the instructions to the letter. If printing doesn't work, check your list of printers in "devices and printers" . You may find 2 new drivers installed: HP Smart Printing, and another with the name of your printer "HP LaserJet MFP...." Just check the one that isn't checked and that should work. Be sure to set the one that works as the default printer. This step added less than a minute to the installation process. So far, I am extremely happy with this purchase. This item was clearly marked "Wireless," but was not. I'll chalk it up to a mistake with the ad posting, but this sort of thing disturbs me and puts me off ordering such things from Amazon. They really ought to do a better job of screening the kinds of things they allow to be sold on their website. I'm sure this was a fine printer for what it is, but I have purchased some utter garbage from Amazon and I just find that disappointing. ... show more

Don't understand some people have hard time to set up the printer. Take me no more than 5minutes to fully set up the printer, after set up the wifi with my IPhone all of my mack's automatically got set up after log in! So far working great!

I had planned for a long installation day. Well just shocked how quickly it went! After 2 days spent trying to instal a Canon laser printer with NO success I ordered this HP Laserjet M234dw. Very easy install, good quality prints, good size for my small desk, very happy with HP quality. Now I'm gonna see how much I can print with the laser printer. I got so sick and tired of paying more for ink cartridges than my InkJet printer so this is my first laser one. Fingers crossed! ... show more

The last thing I was gonna do is settle for an inkjet printer. I saw this was the next best for the money and I’m so glad I spent the extra to get the laser and the wifi and Bluetooth only took one try to get it all set up. Had to use some old mail for a test print but not like they are sold with paper. Had a great option to enroll and a monthly paper in the mail plan. ... show more
