  • Perfect for basic users. Great battery life.
Set name: Intel N100
First and foremost this HP Chromebook (model 14a-nf0099nr) does NOT have a back-lit keyboard or a touchscreen. I have seen various listings that say it has one or the other or both and I can assure you that it has neither. As far as I can tell those are not even an option for this particular model. I purchased this 14-inch HP Chromebook laptop as a used item, the condition was listed as 'LIKE NEW' or 'OPEN BOX'. It looks and works like new so I'm happy with it. Very easy to set up with simple guided instruction all the way through the process and a brief tutorial on the basics if you need it. This is my first Chromebook and even though it's a pretty basic system there is a slight learning curve. Mostly in terms of figuring out apps and folders and that kind of stuff. The battery life is phenomenal in the default setting, over eight hours of basic web browsing and productivity on a single charge. The system itself is great. With the n100, 8gb RAM and 128gb USF it is more than enough for students or basic home use: productivity/word processing, streaming video, web browsing, etc. The one downside is the limited port options; 1 USB-A, 1 USB-C, and one combination microphone/headphone jack. I'm not a hardcore gamer so I can't say anything about that but you can use it for some web based gaming. Very lite-weight and portable. You could easily carry it around all day in a bag or backback and not even notice. The overall build is good. It's got a textured casing that is obviously plastic but doesn't have that cheap "feel" you sometimes get. The keyboard is good. Not a lot of bend or give to it. The keys have a nice response, not mushy at all, comfortable for extended use. BOTTOM LINE: I'm very happy with this chromebook. It's got a good build quality, a more than adequate system and it's very easy to use. It's an amazing value as far as I’m concerned. If you just need a basic daily driver then this is a very good option. ... show more

  • I Remember the times Apps weren't Cloud based aka Windows95
Set name: Intel N100
This HP chromebook has 8gb of LPDDR5 RAM and the N100 which came out in 2023. Unless you are using the ChatGPT, video editing, play fortnite, or have 20 different programs running at once, then you don't need the extra 4 threads with the i3 processor or even a Ryzen. I play Minecraft on this badboy with no issues on a 100hz display while listening to music and having chrome open. No issues with speed at all. The AI Gemini app that comes with Chrome OS is pretty cool also. You can generate images, text in 2 seconds using all kinds of free tools. No touchscreen on this one but they definitely serve their purpose on the 2 in 1 chromebooks. You will need the USB-C adapter (can pick up Sabrent for $10 at amazon). Spend another $20 and get a USB3.0 ultrafit for the USB-A connection and you just added another 256gb of memory. Had an issue with all my devices on the hub and needed to reset the USB c hardware on the laptop. No biggie. Just hold the refresh and power on key simultaneously to reset all the hardware back to normal. Chrome OS has come a long way since my first one in 2015. I connected my Microsoft onedrive account directly to the files app. Microsoft365 is replacing the desktop version and you can download an app for that also and use Excel Word. You can connect speakers, wireless backlit keyboards, mouse, etc. Adjust color correction, diagnostics, etc. I even used the camera app and a video capture usb device to record from my game console. Didn't need to download a separate video app like Windows needs for that. I can even download Apple Music from the play store and use the same account from my Iphone. Windows11 now has an "S" mode (which can be disabled) and their GUI layout is much more interactive and cloud based like Iphones, chromebooks, etc. Why? Because Microsoft realizes they now need to control the third party app access like Apple does. Not like the good old days where apps were vetted on DVD's before they went to market. I mean the entire game of personal computing has changed. Chrome OS has Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, etc. You can download an AI app (web based) where you can edit your scanned pdf docs for free. Google Sheets has Pivot Table, VLookup, and Macro functionality just like a full blown version of Windows Excel has. Windows has a real competitor in the personal computing market but no way Chrome or even Mac can compete with what you can set up using a business peer to peer computing network with a Windows platform. Some ERP and other financial/HR software just isn't as efficient to be run on a cloud platform. Doesn't even make sense in some instances. It might get there one day. But if you use Quickbooks online or some online Tax prep software, etc. and need to meet clients using Zoom or Teams this chromebook will handle those tasks even better than Windows can. You can run your entire small biz using one of these chromebooks. Google is also creating a new single unified OS based on the android platform in 2026 and this HP chromebook will have the hardware to support the new OS. Then I will get a Samsung phone. Overall i recommend this laptop especially at the Black Friday price. ... show more

  • Well Powered for the Price
Set name: Intel N100
Good Chromebook with 8G RAM and 128GB SSD. Compact and fast. Screen resolution is just ok. Good enough for basic web browsing and simple tasks.

  • It can meet all my requirements.
Set name: Intel N100
It was just set up yesterday. It seems very simple. I synchronized it to my current laptop and everything went smoothly. The operation is a bit different, but if I can do it, you can do it too.

  • Persistently dropped WiFi, lousy support, cheap build... returned promptly.
Set name: Intel N100
Right out of the box, this Chromebook dropped my wifi signal repeatedly. It would lose the signal after being connected for a short while, and it would not auto-connect to my network upon startup or after opening the lid. HP's support options include paying $20 (!) to talk to someone (for up to 30 minutes) or live chat. I chose the latter and after nearly 20 minutes the only progress made was confirming my first and last name, my email address, phone number and product serial number. I'd be surprised if the chat was an actual human being; the responses were painfully slow and the dialogue reeked of AI. Doing my own research, I found that dropped wifi is not uncommon on some Chromebooks, and there are many possible culprits. That said, HP was no help to me in finding a solution. So now they get their product back -- I returned it promptly. Since their priority was to capture my contact info first and foremost, HP followed up with emails and phonecalls to "make things right," but they had their chance and they weren't there for me when I needed them. The HP escalation person was clearly going through the motions so that she could "close the case," which is purely for their administrative purposes, clearly her priority and of no use or benefit to me. The Chromebook itself is VERY cheap build -- lightweight plastic that seems like it will not last long at all. I could not be surprised when the case and/or keyboard inevitably breaks or comes apart. This was my third Chromebook (my first HP) and unquestionably the lousiest build. For what little time I used it, the screen appeared dull and washed out. This was a cheap HP Chromebook and you get what you pay for... and that goes for HP's support, too. This experience was a good reminder of why I stopped buying HP printers a long time ago. ... show more

  • I Probably Will Never Buy Windows or MacOS ever again.
Set name: Intel N100
I've owned it for around 7-8 months. I thoroughly enjoy it. I bought a Windows laptop weeks prior to this and I never use it. I use this Chromebook everyday and it has performed extremely well. Even the performance tests from day 1 to day 183 have been very acceptable (albeit I don't understand specs in general very well). I don't like the sound. The max volume is low. There's no touchscreen so not sure what people are squawking about. It hasn't gone slow yet. I am removing everything from my local and Google storage to an external hard drive just to be sure performance continues to function as I have grown to expect. ... show more
