Switching out of S mode in Windows 11 Windows 11 in S mode is designed for security and performance, exclusively running apps from the Microsoft Store. If you want to install an app that isn't available in the Microsoft Store, you'll need to switch out of S mode 1. On your PC running Windows 11 in S mode, open Settings > System > Activation. 2. In the Switch to Windows 11 Pro section, select Go to the Store. (If you also see an "Upgrade your edition of Windows" section, be careful not to click the "Go to the Store" link that appears there.) 3. This product arrived and I started it up, it was slow and lots of updates. That was to be expected for taking it out of the box the first time. However, when I went to take it out of S mode, it kept failing. Despite the instructions online, under this posting it would not work. Was on with HP tech support for 5 hours. They tried everything. The software on this laptop is bad. They couldn't remote in because it only allowed Microsoft apps. So everything was me doing it while they guiding me step by step. To no avail. I am returning this as it is useless to me as I need to use Google apps and Adobe on it. I will be looking for a different laptop that does not have S mode installed at all. I would suggest if you need to download anything non-Microsoft you may take the chance you cannot remove it.
