  • Great Book
I have read this book more than once and keep going back to it. If you want to understand how the banjo works and how you can tweek yours to sound even better this is the book to have. Even if you are not into doing the work yourself the book is still a great resource. I most highly recommend it!!

  • This is an important read.
I recommend this book for any banjo lover who has a remote interest in how their instrument works. There is a good deal of information to consider for some one who plans to do even small tweaks to their instrument, and the information will provide a basis for assessing the quality of an instrument that you may be considering for purchase. My only complaint is that it is a short read, and I would prefer to be bombarded with minutia of information for hours when I decide to nerd out on a subject. I recommend this book. ... show more

  • Great set up book
After many years of tinkering around with banjos it is great to have some good technological information. I like the rating of adjusting your banjo from difficult adjustments to easy ones. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a banjo and is not afraid to work on it himself. Great reference book ... show more

  • It's a book
This could weigh you down with theory, but it's a good reference to have. Nothing compares with experience when it comes to setting up a banjo. The reader should keep in mind that there is no "ONE" formula. Couple intuition with experience and add the science and the job becomes less daunting. Siminoff tends to micro-anaylyze a lot of ideas. ... show more

  • A must read for the serious enthusiast
Siminoff takes you as far as you care to go in understanding how your strange musical machine actually works. What he offers is not opinion, but fact backed up by knowledge, testing and research as well as a sound musical background. You can't go wrong with this book!

The information in this book is excellent and this book is a great companion to Siminoff's book on building banjos. I can only give it four stars because the text and photo captions are in a very small font and difficult for me to read, even with my reading glasses. In fact, I must use a magnifier to read this book. In future editions I suggest the publisher use a larger and darker (bolder) font to make reading easier. ... show more
