  • Unbeatable at the $400 sale price. Features of a $1000 scooter, just don't expect $1000 quality.
$400 for dual motors and 54V 11.6Ah battery is a crazy bargain. Pros: - Great value for the price! - 2x 450W motors haul better than anything I've seen up to $900 - Better ride than anything in the price point *(except for braking issue in dual motor mode, more in cons) - Battery life is solid - nowhere near listed 33 mile range - but what I'd expect for a 54V 11.2 Ah scooter with cheap cells! Go by the battery specs, not the manufacturer range listing. - Dual rear suspension (not in the listing, but it's there!) - Board lights and a (weak) sound system, good for the price and the speakers look easy to upgrade Cons: - Jerky regenerative braking in dual motor mode: it takes careful control to slow gradually. - Purely mechanical braking is a bit rough too, but adjusting cables and disc should fix this. - Handlebar grips and tiny latch for folding stem do not inspire confidence - Narrow handlebars - Grip tape on board is poorly applied, poor quality and will not last. Worst quality grip tape of any scooter I've seen, definitely worth an upgrade. Exceptional buy at $400, and I'd still consider it at the currently listed $730 price as of May 2023. I haven't seen anything meaningfully better until $900+, even on sale. ... show more

  • Poor quality - won’t work long
Own three. One has a flat front tire. The other doesn’t work and has a bad wire. And we are waiting for the third one to give us a headache. Work great when they work. Unfortunately that won’t be long.

  • Almost perfect… almost
My wife and I were looking for scooters that were similar to the rental scooters in downtown areas. These are very similar in size, scale, and weight. They have awesome acceleration and the batteries last for 20+ miles in single motor mode. This scooter is perfect for someone that commutes to and from work in an urban area with potholes and other obstructions. The 10 inch air inflatable tires make it perfect for rough roads and the occasional off path experience. This scooter is heavy, but portable. I wouldn’t recommend it for someone that parks at a subway station and has to carry it with them onto the train. This is more of a scooter that I would recommend to a commuter that would write it from their home to their workplace and back. at 40+ pounds it’s a lot to carry with you, but is still portable when needed. My only real issue with these is that, the handlebars and the shaft that connects them all the way down to the wheel wobbles. Even with all bolts tightened, they wobble within the housing. While I do not believe it is an immediate safety issue, it feels like it is while you are riding it. I paid $400 each for the scooters that I bought. At that price point I feel like I got a lot more scooter than I paid for. However, at their original price point of $1000, I would feel like they needed to improve on some finer details. ... show more

  • Bad tires and poor battery range!!
Ok so let me start by saying that this is my first electric scooter purchase. I am a bit disappointed with this purchase, the scooter looks nice and pretty well made but the advertising is totally wrong. It’s not a 33 miles range scooter, I verily got in the mid 20’s. The first 3 days I took it to work I got flat tires. Three days x3 flats not really happy about it. The tires are that good and the tube inside was deteriorated I don’t understand how if it’s a brand new scooter. For my final advice I wouldn’t recommended. ... show more

  • Very Good
Heck of a scooter! especially for the price. My wife, 110 pd., uses this to go scootering on the back roads up to 8 miles barely losing 1 bar battery. Plenty of power with only rear wheel drive on. Might be a bit slow for some guys at only around 18 MPH. Perfect for my wife crusing around, and slow mode for my 7 year old running it around the house. Will buy another one for my kid! ... show more

  • 13 mile range in the city, jerky dual motor mode.
I was pretty excited to receive the Hover-1 Renegade when I ordered it, but once I had a chance to try it out, it was rather disappointing in many ways. 1) Range is only 13 miles or so. I used it to commute to work, which is 12 miles round trip. By the time I get it home, the battery indicator has dropped to the last bar (out of 5) and it's flashing. I've only done it a few times, and it's already running this low. I'm sure within a month or two, the battery degradation would be enough for me to not make it home. This is city driving, with a rather high bridge to go over, and I have to stop for red lights once in a while (most of it is over a long boulevard so not that often), but this is a FARRRR fetch from the advertised 31-mile range. I was hoping I would get at least half, and that would be safe for my commute, but unfortunately, it's not the case. This alone is enough to have warranted a 1-star rating, but the disappointments don't end there. 2) Jerky dual motor mode. The dual motor mode is certainly powerful. I weigh 155 lbs and it was able to take me to 18 mph even up the incline of the Queensboro bridge in NYC, which is impressive. However, you can't use it for regular riding. The reason for that is that once they turn on the dual motors, they also turn on regenerative braking for both motors. This has the unfortunate effect of doubling stopping power when you let off the throttle, once you ease on the throttle. The result is an incredibly jerky ride in dual motor mode that's not pleasant at all. 3) 1-second throttle latency. This doesn't sound that bad, but it can be pretty frustrating to use when you need that throttle or when you're trying to push to start. This combined with the next problem makes it worse. 4) You need to push the throttle AFTER you reach the 2 mph motor activation speed. Unlike most scooters, which let you hold the throttle open while you push off and the motor will automatically engage, the Renegade requires you to push off and reach 2 mph BEFORE you activate the throttle. This is VERY annoying because it adds an extra bit of dexterity to every push-off. It's a pretty heavy scooter at >60 lbs, so sometimes you may not be pushing off hard enough, and when you try to engage the throttle, it doesn't happen. And even if you do it correctly, the 1-second latency on the throttle makes you wonder if you did it right until the motor suddenly engages while you're attempting a second push-off. When the responsiveness of the motor is questionable, it can be dangerous in certain situations. This is just a bad design. I also own the Hover-1 Pioneer, and it lets you hold the throttle while pushing off which is way easier to handle. 5) Battery drain while powered-off. This might be why I'm not getting the range I need to get to work and back. While the scooter is turned off during the day, I come back to it and find that I went from 3-bars in the morning to 2-bars in the afternoon in the battery indicator. Did I just lose 20% of my battery just from parking it for 8 hours? I'm going to consider this a defect and try to get a replacement scooter from Amazon, until then I will post this as a con in my review. 6) Cannot turn off underbody blue LED. Once you turn the scooter on, the blue lights under the scooter start glowing and you can't turn it off. It's rather tacky for a 42-year-old man trying to get to work. It also unnecessarily drains batteries. I wish there was a way to turn it off so I can have more range instead. 7) Single motor tops off at 15 mph instead of 18 mph. This isn't that big of a deal, but in single-motor mode, the scooter never gets me to 18 mph even on flat terrain. I don't need to go fast, but I would like it to reach the top speed it's advertised to go. I'm sure the motor is capable of reaching that speed, but the limiter throttles down before it can go higher. This is probably a bad calibration/design from the manufacturer. 8) Traction sticker is just a piece of adhesive sandpaper. That will wear out pretty quickly. It wasn't even put on nicely as there are bubbles visible within the adhesive. Just to be fair, there are some things I like about this scooter. Having dual motors is certainly helpful for inclines. I am also VERY pleasantly surprised to find out it has a dual-spring rear suspension! Why don't they advertise it?! It's such a great premium feature! I'm giving it a second star just because of this. Build quality is pretty decent overall except for all the design flaws I mentioned up top. I plan to do some modifications to the scooter: 1) There is no front suspension. I plan to add a spring suspension to make the ride through NYC potholes a little more bearable. 2) I plan to add an external battery. That will require some soldering, wiring, and 3D printing to make it work (maybe some drilling too). The battery packs themselves are quite expensive. 3) I might be able to decrease the regenerative braking by disconnecting the brake wire on the secondary motor. Hopefully, that will solve the jerkiness, but I'll have to disassemble the scooter to be sure. 4) I'll have to figure out how to rewire the blue underglow LEDs to the front headlights. That way, it will only light up when I need it instead of draining batteries all the time. Overall, it is a pretty flawed scooter. I cannot recommend it, especially at its full price. Look for a sale, you know what they say, there's no such thing as a bad product, just a bad price. ... show more
