We've got a LOT of loose paperwork down in our shop for "recipes" we use in the casting room... (We cast resin rods for pen makers) I'd finally had enough of sheets going missing, etc so figured we'd look into ways to bind them into a booklet. Ultimately, I had a chance to get this coil binding machine to reviews so figured we'd see if we could solve our problem and offer some feedback at the same time! Price wise, it's in line with similar machines... For about 150 you're getting the machine itself and coils for 100 booklets. Decent value, and I think this thing is built like a tank so it'll pretty much last forever. It's a solid machine that's a bit heavy and definitely won't wiggle around on ya while you're using it. Punching is manual and very straight forward. You can pull pins forward if you don't want to punch in that location... gives you a bit of flexibility I suppose. Though I'm not sure how well the coil would wind if you skipped big chunks of space... The top of the machine has an electric winder of sorts that helps get the coils on your booklet. You start it by hand and then put it up against the screw shaped piece and it'll wind it the rest of the way down. It works better than I expected... happily surprised with that since I figured I'd be fighting it, and didn't need to. All in all a great way to take loose sheets and bind them together into a booklet!

The holes punch in a straight line but not parallel to the edge of the paper. It's very frustrating, especially if you are taking apart a workbook to put in a coil bind. Even if you tap and press your paper up to the edge, it does not cut parallel evenly. The electric spinner is useless for feeding the coil to bind. It is faster to coil bind by hand. The electric spinner works better for removing a coil binding. The pliers work great for bending the edges, but sometimes it cuts the bent part off too. It's frustrating when this happens because you then need to find regular pliers to bend the ends. The disengaging pins are nice so that you do not have partial holes on either end of the paper. I do not recommend this product. It's better to just get a coil binding cutter (thats 1/5 of the price) and bind by hand.
