I am SO glad I decided to purchase this flat iron! It exceeded my expectations. I've been wanting a new flat iron for quite a while. The one I had before, I had for at least between 10-15 years. It was time for something new. Note: I mainly use my flat iron to curl my hair, not straighten. No lie, I was initially tempted to purchase one of those automatic hair curlers. But I kept seeing reviews about them suddenly not working. Plus the price was a bit much for me. After seeing this one by Hot Tools, and seeing the great reviews...I went with it. Zero regret :) This flat iron is worth every penny and the quality of it, really, surpasses what it costs. The texture of it is smooth to the touch. Lightweight. I love how it's matte black with the bit of 'gold' near the base. This iron is a bit on the longer side but that doesn't bother me a bit. The cord is LONG! Something cool about this iron - near the base it has a little sliding switch that allows you to lock and unlock the clamps of the iron. You can lock it, which keeps the clamps close together, but there is a tiny gap between the two. Then unlock when you want to use it. This feature helps with it not taking up too much room! Every other flat iron I've had never had this feature. The power button is on the inner side, between the clamps. And no exaggeration...this thing heats up FAST. I'm talking not even 30 seconds. You can easily switch between temps by turning the very bottom of the base, which is practically a dial. It remembers the last temp you used; so even if the dial gets turned around, when you turn the iron back on it is at the last temp you used. In the instruction manual it shows the best temps to use on your hair type - I found that to be very useful. This iron is just great. It's lightweight, sleek. Easy to use. Like I said, I use flat irons to curl my hair - not straighten. But I find this iron gliding effortlessly through my hair, leaving me with beautiful curls. The ONLY thing that took me some time getting used to was that since the very base is the dial that turns to control the temp, I kept placing my hand there to hold the iron, causing the dial to turn. So I have to keep reminding myself to move my hand further up to prevent this from happening. Almost used to it now. So yes. Get this flat iron. It's worth every penny. I'm so glad I got this instead of the other one(s). Gives me great curls! Also cool how it comes with a heat protectant glove. ... show more

Absolutely worth the money and I’d definitely recommend it. If you’re on the fence, just buy it. My hair has a mixed texture and tends to be naturally dry, wavy, and frizzy. This straightener works better than anything I’ve used before! It smooths and straightens my hair effortlessly. A heat protectant spray is a must, and I love that it comes with a glove, which is especially helpful if you want to use it as a curler. It heats up to 455°F in about two minutes, which is incredibly fast. I was also skeptical about the 1.25-inch size because it didn’t seem wide enough for my thick, unruly hair, but it’s actually perfect as designed. It's actually pretty sleek and I can pack it in my purse to travel. I’ve had no issues with the placement of the heat knob either. It's easy to grip as well. I finally retired my old Conair straightener for this one, and my only regret is not switching sooner. Hands down the best straightener I’ve ever owned. Try it for yourself!! I’ve been using this flat iron consistently for almost a year now, about 3 times a week, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best beauty tools I’ve ever invested in. For context, I have naturally 2c/3a hair — a mix of waves and curls — but I prefer to wear it straight. I actually had my hairstylist choose this for me when I asked for the best straightener under $300, and this is what she recommended. The performance has been incredible. It heats up in under 10 seconds, and I can straighten my entire head in about 15 minutes. That’s faster than my blow-drying time, which honestly surprised me. What really stands out is how well it maintains results. Once I straighten my hair, it stays smooth and straight until my next wash — no constant touch-ups needed. Even better, my stylist regularly comments on how healthy my hair looks. I only need trims about twice a year, and I haven’t experienced the kind of damage I’ve had with other straighteners in the past. It smooths everything out without frying the ends. I bought this straightener about a year ago & since then I have tried one of the Lange, a bio ionic, and the Kristen Ess hair straightener, and this one is still by far the best in my opinion. I was so shocked that I had to come back & give a review for anyone searching because it really is that good. It doesn’t pull my hair, it’s smooth & shiny when I’m done using it, & I love how you just twist the bottom to change the temp. This is an excellent flat iron. No snags, it’s nice and smooth and also gives a beautiful curl. It gets full temp within minutes and even beeps to tell you it’s ready. My only complaint is the location of the temp dial, it’s right at the end and is very easy to accidentally turn up or down while curling. I’ve had this straightener for 5 years! I love it !! I have long curly mixed girl hair , it works wonderfully. If my hair is dry takes me around 20-25 minutes to straighten it. If I wanna be perfect paper straight okay maybe 30 or so minutes. God forbid it ever breaks I’d be buying the same one ! Great product heats fast! Love the little knob on the bottom that twist for the heat settings. I’ve had a lot of flat irons in my time and I always hated the heat settings . You can digitally see the temperature and set it to what you want! Gets HOT ! It has little tiny knobs on the top so the hot plates don’t touch whatever surface you lay it on and burn it. The HOT TOOLS Black Gold tonic 1 1/4 inch Flat Iron is just what I hoped for , or even more. It's easy to use, and works well on my thick, porous hair. My new hair-due works great with this flat iron. It has a large selection of temperatures to pick from depending on the condition of your hair. Even though my hair is thick and porous, I am using a temperature much lower than the one I could be using, and it works well on my hair. While, I am sure I will become faster as I use it more, just like my hair stylist. I am at the tale-end of a perm and I thought I would have to wait until the old perm completely grow out or have it cut off, before I could start wearing the new straight style I am wearing now. I am happy, that was not the case. Several of my friends have committed on how sleek my hair looks since I started using my new Hot Tools flat iron. I can also put a curl in my hair by turning the flat iron over while I'm flat ironing too. MY hair stays straight for several days after using my Hot Tools Flat Iron.
