The media could not be loaded. Former chef here; for Damascus steel, this knife has great quality and beauty that would bring joy to any culinary fan. I only wish it came in a wooden decorative gift box. This knife will compliment any home cook, whether kitchen novice or veteran. Unlike many "Damascus Style" knives that are simply etched to look like Damascus steel, this knife you can clearly see the folded layers of steel and copper that lend a beautiful experience. You just need to make sure to hand wash this knife as the delicate wood finish hot dishwasher settings. Here's what stood out to me: ✅ Wicked sharp. The edge of this Damascus steel knife is strong and cuts through a roast like butter. (see my video) ✅ Includes a 62+HRC Rockwell hardness value. (Never buy a knife that doesn't provide a hardness rating.) ✅ No signs of fakery. Many knives are just etched to look like Damascus; not this knife. 👍 ✅ The octagonal handle is very comfortable and beautiful, even for longer prep sessions. ✅ If you look over the top of the blade, you can see the ridges form the folded layers of steel. ✅ The sheet of copper hammered into the blade's edge really makes this knife a unique beauty. People who see it are always blown away. I love to use it. The light plays off of the colors in a way that doesn't come out in pictures. ✅ The choil has plenty of space for comfortable holding, even when choking up on the handle. This is that unsharpened space for your index finger to sit in where the end of the blade and handle meet. This helps with sharpening and control when carving or cutting into bone. ✅ The 8" is a perfect length that covers 80% of work you might want to do. I wouldn't treat this knife as a decoration; it's a beautiful work-horse that will make every task a joy. ❤️🔥 ✅ The knife has an excellent balance point and it never feels like it's going to get away from you. ✅ The natural wood handle look very nice. It's a joy to look at every time you reach for your knife ❤️🔥 ⚠️ The natural wood finish on this knife deserves to be hand washed.   • Stunning Craftsmanship and a Razor-Sharp Edge!
I recently added the HOSHANHO 8-inch Damascus Chef Knife to my kitchen, and it is honestly as much a piece of art as it is a high-performance tool. The copper-infused Damascus blade has this beautiful, unique rhythmic pattern that really stands out on my knife block. It feels incredibly sturdy and well-made, striking a perfect balance between looking sophisticated and being tough enough for serious daily cooking. The performance is where this knife truly shines. Out of the box, the V-shaped edge was remarkably sharp, making quick work of everything from delicate herbs to thick cuts of meat. I was particularly impressed with the ebony handle; the traditional octagonal shape feels dense and high-quality in your hand. It’s balanced so well that even after a long session of meal prep, I didn't feel the typical hand fatigue I get with cheaper, lighter knives. What I love most is how versatile it is. Whether I’m slicing through fish or dicing vegetables, the blade glides through with very little resistance, and food doesn't seem to stick to the textured surface as much as it does with my old stainless steel set. It’s easy to maintain with a quick hand wash and dry, and it comes in a beautiful box that would make it a fantastic gift for any home cook. This is easily a five-star addition to my kitchen!   • An amazing knife
So far, I am impressed with the performance of the Hoshanho 8-inch Damascus Japanese Chef Knife. From the first use, it stood out as a thoughtfully designed, high-performance cutting tool. One of the biggest surprises is how light it feels in the hand for its size. The balance is excellent, making longer prep sessions easier and more controlled. The exceptionally gorgeous octagonal ebony handle is a real highlight—it’s comfortable whether you’re using a full grip or working with a fingertip pinch, and it never seems to feel awkward or slippery. Also, the blade is razor sharp right out of the box and slices effortlessly through vegetables, meat, and herbs. Precision cuts feel easy, and the edge is holding beautifully. It performs at a level you’d expect from far more expensive professional chef knives. Visually, this knife is stunning. The Damascus patterning, paired with the copper layers, gives it a refined, high-end look that stands out on a magnetic strip, a cutting board, or even a high-quality knife block alongside other Hoshanho knives. As mentioned earlier, the ebony handle is a proper complement to the metal beauty. It’s the kind of knife that makes you want to cook more, prep more, and cut more, simply because it’s a pleasure to hold as well as behold.
