  • Heavy and well made
Size: 7"
This HOSHANHO 6-piece kitchen knife set combines a collection of kitchen knives with a magnetic knife holder, creating a setup that emphasizes both food preparation and countertop organization. Rather than packaging the knives in a traditional block, the magnetic storage approach changes how the set is displayed and accessed while also making the collection feel more open and visible in everyday use. The first impression is that the set appears designed with presentation in mind. The combination of polished blades, ergonomic Pakkawood handles, and magnetic storage gives it a more modern appearance than conventional enclosed knife blocks. For users who prefer seeing and accessing tools quickly while cooking, the open storage format may feel convenient. At the same time, anyone considering this style should think about available counter space and where the magnetic holder will be positioned for both accessibility and safety. The knives themselves feel balanced for general kitchen tasks. Since this is a multi-piece set, the value comes partly from having different blade profiles available rather than relying on a single all-purpose knife. That flexibility supports a variety of preparation tasks such as slicing, chopping, trimming, and general food prep. The exact usefulness of each piece will depend on individual cooking habits and which knives get the most daily use. The high carbon powder steel description suggests an emphasis on cutting performance and edge characteristics. In normal kitchen use, the blades feel intended to provide clean cutting and responsiveness. As with most kitchen knives marketed around sharpness, expectations should remain practical—initial sharpness is only one part of long-term performance, and maintenance habits such as proper storage, hand washing, drying, and occasional sharpening contribute significantly over time. The Pakkawood handles are another noticeable feature. They provide a warmer and more traditional feel than metal handles while maintaining a more refined appearance than basic molded materials. The ergonomic shaping appears designed to support a comfortable grip during longer prep sessions, although comfort remains somewhat subjective depending on hand size and preferred grip style. The magnetic knife holder adds a practical element beyond appearance. Being able to store knives without blades contacting each other may help reduce unnecessary edge wear compared to loose drawer storage. It also makes selecting and returning knives more efficient during cooking. One consideration is ensuring knives are placed and removed carefully to avoid unnecessary contact with the holder surface. From a maintenance perspective, sets like this generally benefit from hand cleaning and immediate drying to preserve appearance and reduce wear over time. The open display format also means users may want to clean both the knives and storage area regularly. Overall, this knife set offers a combination of cutting tools and visible storage that prioritizes convenience and presentation. The steel construction, ergonomic handles, and magnetic organization system create a functional setup for everyday cooking while maintaining a more contemporary countertop appearance. Buyers should focus on whether they prefer open magnetic storage and maintain realistic expectations around ongoing knife care and upkeep. ... show more

  • All the knives a budding chef should need along with a magnetic block
Size: 7"
This is an EXCELLENT knife set comprised of well-crafted knives and a compact magnetic holder, it is absolutely worth the price, and I would recommend this to anyone. It would make a great housewarming gift or a present for the budding chef. The set comes with a heavy wooden magnetic knife holder that can be mounted on a wall as opposed to the blocks that sit on your counter. The block has a gentle curve from end to end, which is fairly unique as most magnetic blocks are just rectangular pieces; the extra step to create the curve gives it a very refined and elegant look. Being able to store knives on the wall makes it easier to select the knife you want to use. Care should be taken when mounting the holder since the knife blades are exposed when mounted. The wood is a dense wood that has been stained a medium brown color. It is quite heavy and is mounted to the wall using the included screws and drywall anchors. There are adhesive strips you can use instead of screws, these would be the choice when mounting to tile or glass backsplashes. The holder is long enough to hold all 6 knives in the set. I've reviewed many Hoshanho knives before and have found them to be nicely priced and exceptionally well made. I would consider them perfect for the home cook or for the chef just starting out. This set comes with 6 knives in their Yao series. The Yao knives are made with a lightly brushed finished blade attached to black stained Pakkawood handles. The handles are straight at the top with a gentle bulge at the bottom for easy gripping. The tail of the blade has a notch, perfect for placing your forefinger while cutting. The transition from the blade to the handles are smooth, I cannot feel an edge in the transition. The heel has a metal cap and the transition from wood to cap is also very smooth. Each knife is super sharp and maintains their sharpness over time, I've had some Hoshanho knives for almost two years now and I've not had to sharpen them at all, I just use a strop after every use and a steel every once in a while. Each knife is easy to clean and will last many years of normal use. Each knife is individually wrapped in plastic over the blade and another thinner plastic that covers the entire knife and handle. Each knife then has a thick paper sheath that covers the blade to prevent damage during shipping. All the knives are then bubble wrapped and placed in a cardboard inner box which is then encased in the outer box that is suitable for gifting. I like this extra touch in packaging because I've ordered other knives that have poked thru the outer box due to insufficient packaging, causing a very dangerous situation. There is a 7-inch Santoku knife that is the perfect chopper and all-around cutting knife. There are small dimples on both sides, about one-third up from the blade edge, that keeps food from sticking to the knife. The curved blade allows for smooth rocking motion for chopping. It has a nice weight and balance, and I find I use this knife the most. There are three straight edged knives in different lengths. There is an 8-inch chef knife, a 6-inch utility knife and a 3-3/4-inch paring knife. These are perfect for general slicing use. Each is evenly weighted and feels very balanced in my hands. All the knives are dual beveled with a 15-degree angle. There is an 8-inch serrated bread knife with a single bevel edge. It is heavy, but a lot of the weight is toward the heel, which makes it super easy and comfortable to use. ... show more

  • Our daughter was trying to take them home!
Size: 7"
Knives work wonderfully, they seem to be well built and sturdy. Drive been needing a new knife set for a few years. I would say spend the extra dollars and get this set, tho be very careful the 1st time you use them so you don't slice and dice a finger like I almost did.

  • Sharp, Well-Balanced Set With A Nice Magnetic Display Block
Size: 7"
I can’t resist ordering knives, and when I first saw this HOSHANHO set I grabbed it pretty quickly at $149.99. It’s a 5 knife set with a wall-mounted magnetic holder that doubles as both storage and display, which honestly is one of the nicer parts of the whole package. The set covers all the basics for a home kitchen. You get an 8” chef’s knife, 8” serrated bread knife, 7” Santoku, 6” utility knife, and a 3.75” paring knife. Between those, you’re pretty well covered for everyday prep work without needing to reach for anything else. The blades are high carbon powdered stainless steel rated at 58 +/- 2 HRC. That puts them in a solid mid to upper tier range for home use, especially compared to softer western knives that tend to lose their edge faster. For reference, something like the Mighty Mac MTH-80 sits a bit higher at around 59 to 61 HRC, but this set still feels very competitive in real use. Out of the box, the knives are impressively sharp. The edges feel clean and consistent, and they slice through common kitchen tasks without any struggle. Balance is good across all five knives, and the ergonomic pakkawood handles are comfortable in hand. They also look great, with a noticeable wood grain that gives the set a more premium feel. Since pakkawood is resin stabilized, it should hold up well over time if you take care of it. The magnetic wall block is a nice touch. It keeps the knives visible, organized, and easy to grab while also freeing up counter space. It also just looks good, which is not something you can say about every storage solution. So far I’ve used several of the knives regularly and they’ve performed right up there with other quality knives I already own. Long term edge retention and sharpening ease will be the real test, but based on initial use and my experience with other HOSHANHO blades, I expect them to hold up well. Price wise, it sits in that middle zone where you’ll find cheaper sets and more expensive ones. It feels fairly priced for the materials, sharpness, and included magnetic block, but it’s still worth comparing options before buying. ... show more

  • A precision set that punches above its price, perfect for fine slicing - great magnetic holder
Size: 7"
I am a long time user of western (German) style knifes cutlery, my first impression of this HOSHANHO set was just how lightweight and forward balanced the knives feel. If you are used to substantial Western knives with heavy full bolsters, these will feel entirely different as they should. It does not take long to get use to them however. Different techniques and expectations are needed (I suggest you watch some videos to make sure you are using them correctly). They function like scalpels rather than heavy-duty kitchen workhorses and needed to be treated and used that way. The factory edge out of the box is incredibly sharp, they glide through ingredients with minimal effort, so the light weight of these are not a hinderance. The light weight also makes it less fatiguing to use. The bread-knife is wonderful to us. It cuts incredibly easily and cleanly through both soft pastries and tougher crusts without requiring heavy sawing pressure and without crushing. The Chef's Knife & Santoku: Great and supersharp for fine cutting. I did experience minor food sticking, but it is a minor trade-off for a set at this price tier. Because these knives utilize a harder, thinner steel, they excel at precision slicing but are inherently more delicate than heavy German steel. My strategy is to keep using my western style for everyday use especially heavy impact tasks to protect the HOSHANHO factory edges. I however am using and appreciating this set for fine, delicate slicing work and when used that way is a pleasure to use. The included acacia wood magnetic block is and looks fantastic. While it comes with tape and hidden screw mounts for wall installation, I discovered that the internal magnets are strong enough that I simply stuck the block directly onto the metal side of my microwave. It holds incredibly securely, stays perfectly functional, and saves counter space. For the price, this bundle represents an excellent value especially with the magnetic block included. If this can be your main knife set depends on your use. For me no, I need the more durable western style as I work lots with meats with bones, and harder vegetables quite regularly and these knives will supplement for softer more delicate items However if you treat them as precision slicing tools and hand-wash them immediately, this set punches well above its weight class. ... show more

  • Finally Got My Own Knives
Size: 7"
My wife has her sets of knives, now I have one of my own. I do a fair bit of the heavy lifting in the kitchen when it comes to prepping meat, and I wanted something that felt right in my grip. Cooking dinner for my two daughters, who are 12 and 14, means I am chopping and slicing almost every evening, so a reliable blade makes a huge difference. What I like most about this Hoshanho set is the sheer sharpness right out of the box. The high carbon steel slices cleanly through thick cuts of beef without tearing the meat. The pakkawood handles look great and have a nice, heavy weight to them that feels comfortable during repetitive chopping. The magnetic holder is another big plus. It keeps the blades off the counter and out of drawers, making them easy to grab while keeping the kitchen looking organized. As for dislikes, the high carbon steel means you have to hand wash and dry them immediately. You cannot just leave these sitting in the sink or they will spot, which is a bit of a hassle when you are trying to clean up quickly. Also, the magnetic board takes up a decent chunk of counter space if you are already tight on room. Considering the price, the value for the money is definitely there. You get a professional-feeling set without paying the extreme markup of bigger brands. I am giving these a five-star rating because the raw cutting performance far outweighs the minor maintenance they require. They do exactly what I need them to do, look great on the counter, and make prep work easy. ... show more

  • Love These! Elegant, Well-Made, Affordable, High-Quality Knives
Size: 7"
I ordered the HOSHANHO 6-Piece Knife Set with Magnetic Knife Holder, which was on sale for $104.99. Watch the price on this brand, they go on sale often. The set includes a 16" magnetic acacia wood knife holder that adheres to the wall with a powerful adhesive backing. If you have plaster walls, or textured walls, you may want to use the alternative screw mounting method to avoid wall damage or improper adhesion. The magnet is strong and holds well. This is a great starter chef knife set, which includes an 8" chef knife, 8" bread knife, 7" pocketed santoku knife, 6" utility knife, and 3.75" paring knife. The blades are well-made and well-honed; they are crafted from razor sharp high carbon powder steel, with a hardness of 58+ HRC, so these should last a long time and stand up well to sharpening. These are not a full tang blade, but the handles are weighted which give them a nice balance and heft. They feel great in my hand. The Pakkawood handles are a composite material, made of resin- or epoxy-bonded hardwood veneer. This makes them strong, water-resistant and heat-resistant, which is great for a knife handle. These look slick and professional. These are not top-tier $$$ chef knives, but they are a great set for serious home cooks! I really like this set, and love that I can save space by hanging them on the wall. I would NOT run these through the dishwasher or leave them soaking in the sink, that is just a best practice for any knives that you care about. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase, these should last a long time, perform well, and are a good value for a five-piece set. ... show more

  • Good knife set, but too lightweight
Size: 7"
I've ordered other Hoshanho knives from amazon before, and I would say these are on par with the quality of others. I tested out every knife and they are super sharp, I have zero complaints about that. But I took off a star because they are significantly lighter weight in your hand than you'd expect at this price point, which leads to less knife control. The blades themselves feel thinner than other name brand knives I own, and other Hoshanho knives I've tried also. I worry about the longevity of the knives if they're this thin and lightweight. They also need to be hand dried after washing immediately. I washed three and by the time I went back to hand dry them the first knife was beginning to develop spots. Not rusted yet, but it could easily get rust spots if not washed and dried quickly. I didn't install the magnetic knife holder because I have a knife block that I love, but it did hold the knives securely. I think the price point is a good value considering you get five of the most used knives in your kitchen. Overall I do recommend this set since it's a good value for the money, and the knives are super sharp, but I wish the blades were more substantial. ... show more
